a) You just shouldn't have to, just to allow dicks, as you call them, to have their fun on the side

If TrueSkill wasn't broken in Reach, then nobody should have to quit ever. Would you agree that TrueSkill has a helping hand in the problem of griefing, and that if it was actually consistent on matching people within each others skill range, that what little griefing is going on now (because, come on, it's not rampant at all through matchmaking,) would be reduced to an even smaller size?

b) Players are punished for quitting (as they should be), the people being ... abused (perhaps too strong a word, but it's closest for what it is) least of all deserve this

Like I said above, it isn't at all rampant through matchmaking, so quitting shouldn't result in any penalty or punishment unless you quit out regularly.

c) It leaves the rest of your team weaker (poor sportsmanship)

If someone is able to get 20+ flag kills against the other team, then I don't see why making the team weaker is a factor, with that in consideration. If anything, I'd figure that if someone quit from the other team, it would more then likely convince the others to quit as well (and again, I don't play to make people quit, just want to make that clear.)

Trueskill is the same way as it was in Social playlists in Halo 3. I can count dozens of posts by players here who would post stats or games from their destruction to the opposition in Social Slayer, Social BTB, etc. The system hasn't been very good in unranked systems, period. Works fine in my experience for ranked playlists and for Arena.

Eh, Arena is a bit of the same for me, I'll very rarely have a string of games that have both teams within the same skill range. In fact, the only playlist where I do is in MLG, but even then it's only a bit less inconsistent then every other playlist. As for "unranked" playlists, for like Action Sack it's understandable, but playlists where you're going to be trying to win the game, it should at least do a better job at putting you with players near your skill level, instead of this out of proportion skill gap in quite a few games that I've experienced.

Arena only works if you've been rated, some of the most ridiculously unbalanced games i've had have been in Arena, because i've never been rated.

I think there's to much on top of trueskill, connection being one thing. The population just isn't big enough for it to work right.

I would agree TrueSkill or Bungie's use of TrueSkill does not give enough good even matches. But ones failure does not justify anothers sin. If anything, if matched versus a weak group you should want to finish the game quickly in the hopes of finding a more equal match. If you to pick on people go the park and beat up little kids.

Eh.. no. I can't agree with that. Feels like a fallacy, one used to justify your argument. The punishment includes being forced to practically run away. Anyway - Forcing a person to quit once or twenty times, neither is right.

It's the least important of my points, more what I'd say about quitting in general, so I'll leave it to the side for now.

Of course. Just as it's not uncommon to see games won by 20 or so kills in early Team Slayer games in a ranked Team Slayer playlist. It gains more information as games are being played and counted.

For the unranked stuff through Halo 3 and Reach, it's been poor.

No, it doesn't, but I'm not trying to justify my "sin," rather just trying to see what agreement can be made as to possibly fixing this, whether in Reach or Halo 4, just because, even though it is fun being a dick, it just shouldn't be happening in the first place (I'm hoping that makes sense, insomnia sucks.)

Eh.. no. I can't agree with that. Feels like a fallacy, one used to justify your argument. The punishment includes being forced to practically run away. Anyway - Forcing a person to quit once or twenty times, neither is right.

Well, in games like that, it's either get destroyed by people that you shouldn't be getting matched up with, regardless of if they're being dicks and griefing or not, or save your time and load up another game, and I'd figure that most people would see the latter as the better option, not a punishment. And like I said, I don't play to make people quit, I'm just curious as to why they don't, I'm fine with them staying in game but from seemingly their point of view it just doesn't really make sense to stay in a game where you're just simply not having fun.

Oh, I know, I was talking about both while and after getting rated. And my friends have had the same experiences of ridiculous games with the skill ranges out of wack. The system as a whole just seems extremely inconsistent to me, when it's working I play some of the most competitive games I've played since Halo 2, but when it's not it's a crapshoot.

There is a night and day difference between doubles arena and normal doubles in Reach. I have a 90% win ratio in normal doubles where most games end in a 25-5 scores. Reach really needs better true skill matchmaking for such playlists that are competitive (doubles, objectives, swat, snipers and MLG for example).

Haha the weekly. Haha! 150waves are 30rounds. So 30 Score attack games or 10 Firefight Double/Arcade etc. A few weeks ago, you got <10,000credits for finishing 75rounds. Weeklies like this are showing, that the challenge system needs a overhaul.

Otherwiese about this FB thing, you can add me, because I really don't mind. I already have >150 FB-friends, and I'm only doing stuff with 30 of them. So add me if you want it.
pls send me a message with your nickname.

Ok well that is now on the list as well, you should put it up on your fileshare.

So now we have

Armor Walkers
BattleShips
Cat n' Mouse
Speed
SmashBall
Rent a Car
Jump Rope
Toy Factory
Spot Light
and infection and invasion maps

customs should be fun :D

Halo 3 was never that bad, the matches were closer.

Reach i'd say 1 in 10 are competitive, 7 are usually too easy and there's always a couple where the opponents are far superior.

I think half of it is down to team matchmaking, in Halo 3 it used to try and match you up against teams of roughly the same number, in Reach it's just anyone. Playing a team makes a lot of difference to playing individuals.

While I'm sure it's too late if it hasn't been addressed... I really hope 343 changes the "hill" in KoTH games. There is just too much going on there when you're in it. Either make it shorter, or much much more transparent.

Speaking of KoTH... the Hail to the King medal is perhaps my favorite in the game. I only have 4 in Reach but racked up 3 in two games night before last. So good...

I cannot understand how Americans eat undercooked meat like that
That actually looks a bit overdone to me. Ideally it should be dripping juice and blood all over the plate under it. It's not technically undercooked, period. Rare Steak, even bloody is cooked enough to kill most bacteria, and good quality meat should be tender and melting cooked rare and medium rare.

However, I am not one of those people who calls well done steak eaters monsters. If you prefer your steak blasted all to gray he'll, then good for you.

Depending on the cut I eat mine medium rare, but I always have burgers cooked medium because I prefer the taste that way.

I char my burgers a bit same with hotdogs when I do eat them. A bit of black can be good.

Steak I always leave a bit of pink in the middle then salt and pepper it. Serve with mashed potatoes and steamed cauliflower/broccoli.

I should've said it looks undercooked for what my meat tends to look like (no jokes about this sentence please)

Didn't mean to say people were cooking their meat incorrectly or anything like that. Just feels weird to me that the meat was partially not cooked.

that steak looks slightly undercooked to me too
sure if it were well done it would be hard like a brick to eat

btw, it reminded me of:

Some things are known. There were two missions set on Earth at the very end, and the Arbiter and the Chief team up to go after Truth in the last one, bringing their parallel story lines together. The moment where the Arbiter kills Truth in Halo 3 plays out almost exactly as it was planned at the end of Halo 2.
I did not know this. That's awesome.
I wonder if they'd originally planned for a Halo 3, or if the Flood was ever supposed to find Earth.

I suppose I'll get in on this Facebook nonsense, I very rarely update it anyways.

Besides, it might be useful when people start uploading this year's PAX photos.

Quote for the link. Please mention your GAF name if it isn't obvious, I don't want to accidentally add Dax.

I'll play along. I might be lttp but I've been on the road with the band since last week.

Are you a very recently approved member of neogaf?
No.

What country are you posting from and what's your current age.
USA, 26

At what age did you get into Halo and with which game.
16, Combat Evolved

For how long have you been reading HaloGAF?
Since Halo 2 hype train, although it was mostly lurking, very little posting until somewhat recently.

What's your absolute favorite Halo campaign? And your favorite multiplayer? (you're not allowed to pick Halo: Combat Evolved for any of the two)
Combat Evolved and Combat Evolved, but other than that, probably Halo 3 campaign/Halo 2 multiplayer

Highest Halo 3 level and which playlist.
I don't know or care.

AR or BR?
BR unless you're talking about the Halo CE AR.

Absolute favorite multiplayer map from Combat Evolved, Halo 2 and 3 (just one from each).
Combat Evolved; Hang Em High
Halo 2: It's a toughie, can't pick between Turf, Relic, and Zanzibar
Halo 3: Didn't really like Halo 3's maps but probably High Ground

Least hated Reach mp map.
Powerhouse

Do you prefer BTB or MLG? (pre-Reach era)
BTB

Competitive multiplayer or Firefight?
Competitive

Games completed on solo Legendary.
All of em, of course.

Are you EazyB? Mike DongBlain?
Nope.

What are some of your favorite Campaign missions.
Halo (from CE), Silent Cartographer, Assault on the Control Room, Two Betrayals, Delta Halo, The Ark, The Covenant, Long Night of Solace

Favorite Reach playlists.
Classic and Team Slayer since I'm pretty much always running solo. :(

Size of frankie erotica folder (in megabytes).
I have a seperate 1TB drive just for Frankie porn.

Opinion on reticule bloom.
Doesn't really bother me.

Opinion on Armor Abilities and the one you usually end up picking.
Other than sprint, I'm not a fan.

Why are you a Halo fan?
The fiction, specifically the uncovering of the forerunner environments and history, and the sandbox gameplay that is so replayable.

Now feel free to introduce yourself and/or share anything you want so we get to know you better, some of us would enjoy reading it. (optional)
I'm 26 married, a lifelong gamer, I play bass in a band that stays pretty busy on the road so my XBL schedule can be sporadic. Love Halo and always have and will definitely be getting Anniversary and Halo 4 day one.

343 please match guests with guests only please, and make trueskill actually work while you are at it.

Everyone on my roster was partied up tonight so I decided to play alone. That was a terrible idea. I went into Squad then looked at my laptop. I heard laughing so I looked up and saw a party of 4 and a random matched against me and a Corporal with 3 guests. They were commenting on how jacked it was and that I was probably pissed. I stayed to see how it would play out, but I should have just Dashboarded right when I looked up. The main guy has played 10 games and has a .51 K/D. I don't get it, I really don't. I am so disgusted right now, and I just keep shaking my head.

I suppose if I play alone I should avoid Squad, but the other options aren't great either. You really just can't play alone. :(
rofl - I had an almost identical game last week:
guests_make_you_cry.png

Pretty sad, because last week was nuts; I got only 5 multiplayer games in, TOTAL (for the week), and that was one of them.
What's worse - it followed right on the heels of THIS game:

This is pretty much what I do. Steaks nice and juicy in the medium-rare range and burgers cooked to a point where you can eat them without them falling apart or getting cow juice all over you.
It was a good sirloin.

Just three weeks ago it was 375 waves (75 rounds) for 8,000 cR. Now it's 150 for 12,000. This one feels about right, and I'm glad to see it. Looks like we're on a regular Multiplayer --> Campaign --> Firefight rotation. I wish when we got steeper requirements like that the reward was richer as well. It really does feel like the requirement and the payout were selected through independent dart throws.

Early on we had a mistake daily for completing 50 rounds of Firefight without dying, that was supposed to be a weekly. I keep hoping to see that one return as a full weekly, it's more interesting - more challenging - than just chipping away at rounds.

Have you tried fiddling around with the matchmaking preferences maybe if you set it to serious games or something you'll get less guests?

Probably. Remove everything but Team Objective and it'd still have only ~700 people in it
Well, if people were jumping off of cliffs instead of fighting in Slayer, they'd probably avoid playing that too.
