I've never been a big fan of Halo but this stuff is going to get me to buy it on day 1.

I never was a halo fan until 3 was released, I got it 1-2 weeks early and beat it on legendary before any of my friends had it.

I only wanted to beat/play it to throw it in their face but i end up enjoying it. I won't go back and play 1/2 but I have played all of them since 3.

I def will be playing this.

The Flood got way more interesting to fight as the trilogy progressed even to the point where I kind of missed them in ODST. In Halo 2 you had to destroy their bodies because the infections forms could revive fallen combat forms and Halo 3 had the pure flood forms who could morph into different roles and infection forms that could transform Human and Covenant corpses.

The Covenant can't do that, they can't revive fallen Elites or transform your troops into zombies and they can't morph into different forms either. Maybe they are just cannon fodder but they change things up which is exactly what they are supposed to do. You can't just use the same tactics that you used against the Covenant or against the Sentinels.

If there is one thing that Bungie did wrong with the Flood it is that they didn't get the most out of what they had. Quarantine Zone is the pinnacle of all Flood levels in my opinion, they are used to almost their full potential. They drive around in Warthogs and Scorpions, use turrets and they constantly ambush you out of nowhere. It's non-stop terror and for the first time in SP Halo history you have to learn how to fight against enemies who are using the entire human sandbox against you.

That's something that should have been expanded upon but it never happened. It would have been interesting to fight against Hornets or combat forms with Spartan Lasers in Halo 3.

So yeah, the Flood can be damn fun to fight but outside of QZ, High Charity and Floodgate they aren't used anywhere close to their full potential.
You meant to say 343 Guilty Spark.

I'm torn.

I actually LOVED how Halo 3looked and all the hard work the engine was actually doing, so I kinda hope Bungie don't pander TOO much to whiners, but at the same time, I would like all the babiez and Sonybots to shut the fuck up.

So yeah, I dont know what I want from the engine.

I would have been perfectly happy to just reuse the Halo 3 engine and have it run with full AA and 60fps.

I'm set if they get that.

As to matchmaking, leave it as is I guess, just add more options to Ranked.

I'm not a noob so much as I don't spend as much time in Halo as MOST of you do. But I honestly don't like the random game types.

I generally just want to play deathmatches. Can't there be an option in say Team Slayer Ranked, to JUST have Slayer and nothing else? Or am I forgettign something.

I haven't played online since I got 1750/1750 a few weeks back.

from the improper game informer photo i uploaded, they say that they made improvements on every aspects of the halo engine. they can now have large environments with large scale battles.. 20 to 40 dynamic lighting compare to 3 or 4 from halo 3.

Have any of the articles confirmed that the mythic edition of the game includes a limited run of life sized Jorge statues?
I'd rather have a power glove type thing to make you look like Kat.
That way we get a cat helmet with Halo 3 and a Kat arm with Reach.

If part of you wants Bungie to use a new engine just to "make Sonybots shut up" then you're doing it wrong.

4 player split screen has made this a game I keep going back to when friends come over despite games like Killzone 2 looking better. The replay viewer is awesome to rewatch the HOLY SHIT moments.

I hope replays are in Reach as well.

The best part is, Bungie is really, really good at making battles feel larger than they are. For instance, the two- Scarab battle, or the fight outside the Cartographer on the Ark; if you stop to analyze it, there actually aren't all that many combatants at any one time, but it just feels bigger due to the way sightlines are blocked and how enemies spawn and all the shit going on up in the sky. AotCR was even better at this; there were times when there were maybe 15 AI characters fighting, but it felt like triple that. 40-person fights are going to be huge.

Hence why I'm torn.

Like I said, I am actually genuinely happy with how Halo 3 looks.

I know, I know it will be a completely different looking Halo, and by different I mean improved. Even the scans show a big difference let alone seeing the mag in person (person?).

I'm just saying. I'm kind of over trying to talk about a great game that's going to be fuck awesome, just to hear the same people/shit being said about 'teh grafiks'. It's pretty clear that Halo fans don't care enough about the graphics to NOT continue to buy the game.

I certainly don't. I've got the LE of every Halo game released thus far as well as the standard editions I use to play, and have both Halo consoles. Xbox 1 and the 360. Yeah, I'm sick in the head like that.

Hopefully MS and Bungie don't release a Halo Reach console. Just make it a replica AR and I'll be good to go.

I have a lot of friends that were never really a fan of the series and some that played the first one and then kinda stopped. All hoping for big changes in the franchise, seeing the article in GI has gotten some of them pretty excited though.
What did they reveal in the GI article that sets Reach so much apart from Halo CE/2/3? Does the macho tone really mean that much to some people?

Aye. The biggest changes were the tweaked approach to story telling, the slightly darker visual style, and the armor abilities. All are nifty, but they don't strike me as complete game changers. Beyond that, it's a new cast, new setting and a few new weapons. Very tip of the iceberg, expected-for-a-sequel kind of stuff.

We know a lot more is coming, but the article was more about introducing the game, not really detailing it.

It's the bright colours that scare away male teens. A touch of pink and they jump over to COD to cleanse themselves.

So when is EDGE supposed to hit stands, again?

12 or 36 hours time in subscriber's hands and next week on the racks.

Expect information by the end of the weekend though.

^ Same here, and I'm 100% fine with that. ODST has zero replayability to me.

Okay guys, secret special access to an exclusive Reach screen. For those who can't get the mag, this is the next best thing! :lol

The shitty, shitty voice acting doesn't help much. It ruins the game for me even more than Dare's horrifying mannequin face.

Yeah, actually, I am going to stop worrying about graphics, and just wait for the beta. Pretty sure that if Bungie is putting their focus on lighting it is because they have made perception tests and the results show that better lighting equal to a more satisfactory visual experience. Also, if their new LOD system is able to fool me then the whole "MOAR POLYS" will be a totally invalid complain. Also, about the jaggies, calibrating your TV helps a lot. I paid a professional from Samsung to calibrate my HDTV for me, and we created a custom profile for Halo 3. Other games now look funny, but Halo 3 looks fucking amazing. :D

I am not joking about the whole calibration thing.

Oh absolutely. Even though the GI probably can't reveal all of what they saw and the stuff they did cover wasn't done so in much detail, there's still a few gems in there. I was just wondering what in that article could have spiked the interests of a non-Halo fan so much. It was a loaded question as I assumed it was the "serious business" tone that many gamers latch onto to feel manly.

Bungie's a slow tease and I fully expect nuggets of greatness to be dropped all the up until its release. I'm really hoping Edge has more a more in depth article even if they're shown the same content.

Urk: Forehead grenade tosses or Halo CE/2/3 tosses? Surely this can't be a detail you guys are holding out to reveal latter.

Probably wasn't clear, but I was trying to expand on your point not contradict it. I also don't understand how someone burned out on Halo could be excited, because what was announced was cool in the specifics but expected in the broad strokes.

If you weren't excited about another Halo before, what was in there to make you be? Dunno.

I don't know about you guys but for me having a squad of Spartans in the game is a pretty big game changer. Sure, most of the other things mentioned in the GI article are refinements to exisiting Halo gameplay mechanics but to have somewhere between three and six Spartans running around at the same time, that's what really sets Reach apart from the other Halo games.

Just imagine what Bungie can throw at us now :D

Yeah. But we knew that from the VGA cinematic, not from GI. :p

I don't see how that's all that much different than Master Chief and three elites running around in Halo 3 co-op.

But I'm all ears for what Bungie has in store for us.

I think it is something that can drastically change the game depending on if all the Spartans have different armor abilities and act accordingly to how their character is developed. Be interesting to see them use their individual talents and skill as Spartans.

This time around Bungie will design encounters that are meant to be a challenge for least three Spartans. Halo 3 only got challenging in 4 player co-op mode once you activated a ton of skulls.

So I just picked up just about every single Halo comic (missing Uprising #3) and discovered Blood Line #1. About to give it a read.

I wouldn't even know where to buy comics near me. How are they? I'm trying to get back into the EU. Haven't started Harvest yet, I probably should soon.

Well, I only read Blood Line #1 tonight. It just sets up the story arc (it's issue 1 of a 5 issue mini-series) and introduces you to a few characters, human and Covenant. These Spartan-IIs are labeled 'Team Black' and No. 4 of the 4 is Victor-101. I imagine the rest of the books will continue to dabble in their origins. The plot seems to be going somewhere interesting thus I'm looking forward to reading the next issue.

And yes, I tried my best to not spoil it while giving a basic summary.

Blood Line is probablly the most interesting concept for a Halo comic out there. I wonder if it's worth holding out for a full collection, I hate having to wait for each issue.

Yes detailed in-game stats similar to the old Halo3.junk.ws would be amazing. Still hope we get some sort of Gotham TV system in Halo Reach. It would be fun to have an area similar to Theater where you could watch clips or full games and then rate them. Copy the sorting options of YouTube or those streaming porn sites and you could have a full-fledged online video library of Reach goodness without the layered clunkiness of the current system.

Yeees Urk PLEASE, have this for Reach, especially TIME based stats. I'm a werid person, lol. I loove knowing how long I've spent on a particular game. I used that junk stat site for awhile but it never had 100% right stats, they were always 1 too 2 hundred games off.
I know it probably won't happen, Bungle mostly has they stats on b.net, but please at-least have them on there for Reach.
I'd like to know time spent in Mutli,Single-player, hell even time spent in the lobby!
So please urk run it by one of the new stat site guys or what-ever! If it's in game though, that would be amazing!

Information junkie confirmed!

There are sites like Halostats that calculate information like time spent in lobbies, though it's entirely estimation using averages and such.

There a natural line of how much information is too much but I don't think Halo is anywhere near there yet. Heck, I'd even pay a little extra to cross that line if it were possible.
