Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

I hope they copy the multiple game types per match from Killzone 2. It was amazing shifting from game type to another in few seconds.

You know, it feels weird Bungie saying that, especially like that...
There's a certain measure of this reflecting badly on what they did with Halo 3.
*shrugs* I'm probably over thinking it, but...

This Falcon business, surprised when I read about it on the swedish site. Really interested to see why they have gone with the "Warthog of the sky" moniker. I want to hear what problems they thought the Hornet had.

I think for a lot of people the Hornet simply was not fun to drive. The controls were just a bit too different if you were used to the other vehicles imo. I'd imagine Bungie are tagging it with 'Warthog of the Sky' as a means to say the Falcon is fun, simle and effective to pilot.

itd be cool if we were able to put more than one objective in a single game, like having an oddball to pick up as well as flags to capture, particularly for large scale games

People don't like the controls for the hornet? :(
It gots props from me because it was different, the controls felt fresh and interesting.

Flying a hornet is simple and easy if you know what you're doing. Also, it can hover, making a it a better weapons platform than the banshee.

I think it's so friggin' cool that Eazy has an alternative, if they end up pulling Elites from Multiplayer...

In that it was different to the other vehicles. Piloting it on 'The Covenant' was an un-expected change of pace and it was nice to expand to something that controlled differently.
The encounter around it.. was a bit easy, but ultimately for me it was a good part of a great level.

The hornet felt weird, and I hope the falcon control is way more akin to the usual win you find in the controls of other vehicles in a Halo game, but the biggest difference and improvement, will be having a buddy manning a turret this time. I can already taste the fun times. :D

"The new Elites got significantly larger, with a greater sense of weight and are much more 'animalistic'," explains Scott.

This. I always felt the Elites weren't animalistic eough, just felt like I was fighting big humans that would hop out of the wa of gernades and would make funny noises at me. :lol

It says in-game this pistol will feel very much like the Halo: CE pistol.
We have the DMR, we do not need the CE pistol. They are exactly the same thing disguised through visual trickery.

I always felt on a rail with that vehicle in that every movement felt like I was gonna be pulled in a big arc first before I ended up where I wanted to be. The way it handled made it feel slow and unresponsive. They hovering was made easy though and worked well in MP when camping the corridor in Avalanche.... :p

godhandiscen

There are millions of whiny 5-year olds on Earth, and I AM THEIR KING.
The marine looks like generational leap, and it is the most badass depiction of a soldier I have seen in any action game this generation. The new AR model is incredible, it feels so real that it could be used as a CG movie asset. The elite hasn't improved that much though, however since the big change comes from the skeleton, I guess we need to see the game in motion to notice the difference. The warthog just seems darker. I can see the texture improvements, but I believe it is another asset that I will need to see in game to appreciate the evolution it has gone through. I wish Bungie could do a comparison like this for scenarios though.

New models look impressive, even more so considering they can fit double the number of those guys in an encounter compared to what they could do in Halo 3 :)

Awesome article. They should give Urk that kind of material for the BWUs. Feb 11th seems like a good date to reveal the MP portion of the game and after that I'd love to pour over the thought process of the gameplay designers.

I don't know, there's something about that smirk of the flight that really completes the package.

Embarrassment of riches. Podcast should coming along tomorrow. Roped Sage in to talk about guns, armor abilities, and his righteous beard.

Dmr has 3x scope opposed to a 2x scope. It will be more accurate at least.

Think you guys missed a typo in that article

Scott explains it further, "We really wanted to push the visual distinction of variants in Reach. One day Eric, one of our artists, and I were flipping through one of the old Art of Halo books and saw a sketch for a Grunt concept that really liked."

I would imagine there's supposed to be a "we" in there.

Refreshing to read an article like that. Most times I feel like a prisoner starving in a cell and every week I get a peanut thrown at me while a feast is being prepared just out of sight.

Return to your roots! :D
It'd be so awesome if they just made it a reskinned DMR with 2x zoom just for nostalgia's sake. I'm afraid they'll want to differentiate it from the DMR (which sounds a lot like the CE pistol) thus forcing it to be different and not at all like the weapon that actually defined CE.
For some reason they think the AR is the iconic weapon./spoiler]

Easy there, previews said the same thing about the Halo 3 pistol, lol. But I can see it being better than that this time.

What in the fuck would someone want to do in forge with Natal? Keep that flaming piece of shit away from anything I might possibly interested in.

As far as the hornet goes, I think it's a decent way to spend an otherwise boring match of Avalanche but I'm really glad they're going for something new in Reach. I hope they totally revamp the controls for the falcon, while I have no trouble controlling it, it could be improved and made a lot more wild and fun to pilot. The hornet is pretty stale and as far as combat goes it just acts as something to annoy the other team with. With the Falcon I hope the flight made deeper like the banshee from CE to 2, make it feel like there's more weight and momentum to it, give it individual air brakes controlled using the bumper, and reward risk with viable offensive abilities. The hornet has shitty offensive abilities but almost no risk; not really a fun combo.

mmm... I would like to fling a warthog across a map with a flick of my wrist thank you very much.

But I should have been clear about this: Only include Natal support in forge as an option. FUCK NO as the only control method for that, I want to see what all the amazing people like nokiard, who have mastered it, can do with the new improvements.

I'munna go with Easy here. Natal has no place in Halo. You can have other games with a "throw the crap" gimmick. Or you could wii. Reach needs to, if anything, have more precise controls. None of this handy business.

This. If Natal is in Reach I will airmail a steaming pile to Bungie's door- ATTN: Eric and Friends.

I think I'm going to have to agree with this. I've been very skeptical about Natal in general especially with how it's even going to apply to games I would even care about, but with Forge I think that'd be the very first thing I'd be interested in viewing.

On another note, are you guys pulling my chain about the M6D? I'm at work so I can't view the pictures or view the links. I will be pissed if it isn't,
again

^^^^^^ I'm glad they put up comparisons for characters halo CE through reach. There is no denying it, the upgrade just from 3 to reach is astounding, plus almost twice as much AI running at once. Just give me a smooth frame rate, little bit of AA and last but not least don't skimp on the multiplayer modes (PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE include matchmaking for CO-OP and firefight). If we can get all this it will be awesome.... what am I saying, its halo from bungie, more than likely I'll love it.

Awesome. :D
I was also a fan of the M6S. Automag is beast in that game.
I wish Emiles profile told us about the shotgun/nade launcher he has. But oh well.

Hope Reach has a big news at X10. A beta date would be welcome. :D

I would love some MP footage or demo like they did with H2. :D

Emile-239's profile at gameinformer.com shows him with a pistol and there's a description that says it's the M6G and "the weapon will feel very much like the original pistol available in Halo: Combat Evolved". I wouldn't get too excited because the M6G is the Halo 3 pistol variant and we already know the DMR will be a strong mid-range weapon.

While the new Elite and Spartan models do indeed kick much ass, and are clearly the star players in Reach, it was the progression of the troopers that were most striking to me, personally. I certainly didn't recall ole Captain Keyes being so simple and blocky back in the day but it seems like just yesterday we were all sitting around our desks marveling at the new and improved Marine in Halo 3. And now looking back they all pale in comparison to the level of fidelity and detail the Reach team is bringing to the game.

Tell me this is a joke. That whoever wrote that isn't so deluded as to actually believe it.

I also thought it was a noob tube but If you look at the launchable grenades all over his body, they are huge in comparison to the diameter of the barrel... But then again it could use smaller rounds and the large grenades can be for the grenade launcher in the Concept Art.. that is if the grenade launcher is in the real game.

While the character looks leaps and bounds above the Halo 3 character... thats not saying much considering the H3 marine looks pretty terrible compared to todays standards. And i could also remember thinking how cool they looked when they first came out. Although the new Marines looks great, they are not the end all be all of marine awesomeness, i see some questionable design choices but its not worth having a BR vs AR pointless arguement about.
