Halo Reach Reveal Thread - Matchmaking/Multiplayer Details Revealed

Wasn't speculation, just a wish list.

Oh, that comment wasn't directed at you. I was just thinking out loud I guess.

They had no idea forge would be used a map creator when they included it and just look at the incredible stuff that came from it. This time around the possibilities practically endless.

Im very excited to see what they have cooked up in forge.

You put The Pit in Halo 2 and it's "good map" value drops considerably, it's just a gem amongst a bunch of turds really. :lol

Really hope Reach's maps are better, and I also hope that if they're not going to put much effort into making objective stuff work for matchmaking that they don't make that many asymmetrical objective maps like High Ground and Last Resort so they can get shoe horned into team slayer and be terrible at it. :(

That makes me sadface. We need more good asymmetrical maps this time around, more akin to halo 2. The sad fact is that the changes to Objective gametypes did not improve overall gameplay and when combined with a poor amount of lackluster asymmetrical maps the Team Objective experience nosedived.

Load Outs look great. I can't help but notice a trend in EazyB's worries getting soothed one at a time (this week: Elite's abilities). :lol
Haha, yeah, for the most part it's been nothing but great news. The last big thing I want to see is the map editor. It'll probably be quite some time before we get anything on that though.

But that's fucking right, elites are fast as fuck and get any of the AAs, so awesome. It'll break my heart if I can use a jetpack with any elite but mah flight. Them fuckers pioneered jetpack use!

Also, look what I stumbled upon while searching for a Halo 2 Flight elites. I wanna know why no one's told me this son of a bitch was being made:

About damn time I might add. Wrong color, the rubine really makes the subtle curves of the flight shine and McFlaren is missing out on the female demigraphic (flight is a beast with the ladies) but this'll do. Luke told me he'd hook me up with a chopper model but all he's done is kill the chopper; to make sure the cycle doesn't repeat itself I'mma purchase myself.

Huh, I didn't even know they had a Halo 2 flight action model:

Seems to me like flight is like the BR of halo characters, there's no way it won't be in Rea- oh shit.
Costs 44 bucks on ebay but you gotta pay for excellence.

So the Bungie Weekly Update says that you can kill people from behind in one melee right? Can someone explain to me why you would use the animation then? Not only because it looks cool right?

I was worried/suprised at first about load outs. They will work though, It wont be like MW where people load out with their pimped out super weapons while other people havent unlocked them yet, This will be fair and ballanced.

What's the point of tea-bagging?

Well I thought it would have some advantages, but I guess not. And the new melee animation is cool enough for me.

It prolongs the players death, opening possible strategies for its use.

Keeping someone alive, even for a couple seconds, could make a huge difference when playing Objective gametypes.

Did the pic of the spartan and the jetpack remind anyone else of the Michael Jordan free-throw line dunk?

Sorry for all the pics. I can't help myself.

Dirtbag's list is pretty on the money, especially the top seven or so, although Standoff would be very near the top for me. Some maps would place higher if Halo 3's rules were tweaked, the prime example being Assembly, which is just crying out to be a decent CTF experience.

I guess we'll see which remakes (if any) they go with. I do think we're going to see a lot of maps that intermingle tight indoor spaces with freer open areas suited to the new mechanics (jetpack, sprint, etc.), so maps like Valhalla, Standoff, Headlong, etc. would probably work well.

I just hope all the new gadgetry doesn't mean the death of the likes of Lockout, Midship, The Pit, Ivory Tower, or any of the other maps that make what I consider the core gameplay of four dudes versus four other dudes so special. Switch off jetpacks, give everyone the option of packing the DMR and pistol, and let's go.

How many remakes were much good, when you think about it? The best of them are maps that can't even be considered true "remakes" (e.g. Valhalla, which sounds similar to Blood Gulch/Coagulation on paper, but is really a proper evolution of the two-bases-and-the-winding-valley-between-them idea).

Once you tweak old maps even a little (or a lot, in the case of Blackout) people cry foul. Heretic is popular precisely because they did almost nothing to it (except presumably to adjust the space to fit the different movement speed, jump height, etc.).

I think remakes should make up at most maybe 15-20% of the map count, and probably less than that, ideally.

I miss damnation :*(

It would be so cool if they have a few remakes, it would be awesome to see some nostalgic maps in the campaig... Since the multiplayer maps are in the campaign.

Gui_PT said:
It saddens me how Hang 'em High never got a decent remake =(
The remake of the map was not the problem. In the first Halo, the ability of the pistol to shoot people from across the map, combined with the ability to launch grenades as far as you wanted, opened up the play of Hang'em High. In Halo2, Tombstone was torture to play on because of weapons like the BR were so horribly inaccurate from distance. But don't tell anyone I told you this.
Supposedly, the pistol was broken in Halo1 and ruined gameplay
:lol

Or it made maps better than they already were. Can you imagine what a pain Boarding Action would have been without the Pistol? Although a Damnation remake might not suffer quite as much from range issues. I loved that map too.

I can't wait to see the new Forge stuff... there is going to be Forge in this game, right? :D

It's good right now but it's so close to being GREAT. Better grid-locking, ability to change some settings on maps (environment or lighting... something like time of day... some more triggered stuff perhaps).

Anyway the last update was awesome :D I can't wait for this. The Loadouts are sounding better all the time.

I think Coagulation is pretty good
I also like, Beaver Creek
Elongation was ok

And Warlock was spot on

I really miss Beaver Creek, so many good times on that map. I guess it's a little too small for most of Halo 3s games, tis a shame.

Edit: Speaking of, gonna finally redownload the Halo 2 maps today. I take it HaloGAF will be having a get together to send it off?

I think they mentioned they wanted to reward it in some way, maybe you get more cR's?

As for the map's, The Pit is probably the best Halo 3 map, I personally play Guardian more as I play a lot of FFA customs, but The Pit is pretty much first choice for slayer or flag games.

I hope so. I've tried playing some Halo 2 matchmaking games with a bud off and on the past week, but we could barely find a match. We searched for at least 30 minutes each time - getting into only two games the entire three days we tried finding a match - before just giving up, and going back to Halo 3. :(

Some Halo 2 GAF customs would be the perfect final farewell.

Im in the same boat, I would love to play some H2 Gaf customs. Halo 2 goes down on the 15th right? Does that mean that it dies in the morning and wont actually be up on the 15th or that it dies midnight?

My List
1.Hang'em High
2.Damnation
3.Chill Out
4.Headlong
5.Lockout
6.Standoff
7.Sanctuary
8.Zanzibar
9.Warlock
10.Ivory Tower
11.Boarding Action
12.Longest
13.Colossus
14.Derelict
15.Prisoner
16.Citadel
17.Coagulation
18.Burial Mounds
19.Rat Race
20.The Pit
21.Relic
22.Terminal
23.Wizard (if you never played team slayer 8v8 no radar on this map, you missed out)
24.Battle Creek
25.Waterworks
26.Midship
27.Containment
28.Construct
29.Narrows
30.Turf/Gemini get a tie :p

There is obviously some wiggle room for maps ranked close to each other, but generally this list is accurate from my most favorite at the top to my lesser favorite at the bottom. And if it isn't in the list, I didn't care for it. Good-bye Guardian. AHAHAHA! And I only listed one map if there was a remake of it, choosing whichever one I enjoyed more. And yeah, Midship was never one of my favorite maps. Too easy for map control, along with Beaver Creek and Ascension.

I've always thought the H3 maps don't get enough love. I consider High Ground and Valhalla among the best in the entire series.

Then again, H3 standard territories is one of my favorite game types, which it feels like High Ground is made for, and I know that's not exactly a popular view round these parts.

Just to fit in,

Avalanche/Sidewinder
Guardian
Waterworks
Relic
Coagulation/Blood Gulch
Turf
Burial Mounds
Standoff
Ivory Tower
Containment
The Pit

If even a few of those make it I will be super pleased.

I'd make a list but aside from the big ones like Beaver Creek, Blood Gulch and a handful of the Halo 3 ones I don't really remember many of the names. /shitfan

DO NOT WANT
This man is on the right track. If any map should be remade from Halo 3, it should be Valhalla. Valhalla is one of the best maps Bungie has ever done.

This map looks absolutely incredible... It amazes me how much work is still being put into Halo CE Maps.

I apologize for this being terribly off topic.
That does look really freakin' sweet. I want a map like that for Reach.:lol

Headlong is another one I really enjoyed and another I think would be cool with jetpacks and such.

2 out of 4 Halo 2 map packs downloaded, actually quite looking forward to playing some when they are done.

The 'nades.... the fucking 'nades.

I remember the 1st time playing on that map. It was like... my 2nd or 3rd time playing Halo.

I discovered the power of grenades and spent the hole game on that very corner just throwing grenades around

I won

Halo 2 really did have a lot of fantastic maps, and most of the good ones from Halo 1 have been remade anyways. My favorites in no particular order:

Elongation
Warlock
Headlong
Coagulation
Battle Creek
Sanctuary
Desolation
Ascension
Lockout
Midship
Waterworks
Zanzibar
------------------------
Welp I guess that's 12, but those are my favorite maps in the Halo series. It's funny thinking back to the Halo 2 maps too, because even the ones I didn't list are actually very playable, save for a few bad ones. In Halo 3 it's more like the best maps are just good but nothing out of the ordinary, while the rest are pretty meh-tastic to just plain bad (*cough Orbital*).

Well, I'm a little late as I see that 4 new pages have been filled, but the update was filled with good info. I love the direction they took with loadouts.

My favorite 10 Halo maps in no particular order:

Headlong
Coagulation
Ivory Tower
Relic
Terminal
Ascension
Burial Mounds
Waterworks
Standoff
Sidewinder

I'd like to see in Reach:
Isolation
Orbital
Backwash
Blackout
Foundry (default)
Burial Mounds

Naah, just kidding. But Burial Mounds was actually quite fun until somebody threw the flag/bomb/ball carrier the ledge. I think it would be hard to fit some maps into the jetpack-filled gameplay of Reach. Some maps might fit well, others not so much.

Hopefully they don't get scared away do to AA. We still wants the maps, just turn off AA. Problem Solved! :D

I am going to stay clear of the list bandwagon. Lads, seriously, it's going to be varied. Just like the weapons, we can only hope the map designers are approaching the levels in the same way. Each map fulfilling a certain role. Duplicity won't be a bad ting as you can have totally different aesthetic layouts and give it a unique feel. It's the lack of a map type that will be bad should it happen. Which it won't :p

When has Bungie pleased everyone with any one map? Exactly.

After quickly looking up the name, I'd say with jetpacks and such Prisoner from Halo 1 could be very interesting.
From what we've seen, Sword Base looks like an evolved Prisoner. =)
