This.

Since when has 5v5 become the standard for Halo? I know 4 did it, but H1-3 maps were designed with 4v4 in mind. Nobody ever played 5v5, and most of the CE and 2 maps are too crowded this way. Leave anything more than 4v4 to BTB please.
It was 4v4, but 343 upped it to 5v5 to help with matchmaking search times... somehow.

I still think they should add an Objective playlist. I suspect many players are quitting when the mode they want isn't started.

It's evening here in the UK so I'm trying matchmaking with latest patch (with, yes, a reboot and open NAT). The furthest stage I've got is "Players Found" after 27 minutes.

Yeah, it's going to be interesting to see MM viability in the long run. There are now more reasons for turds to quit in MCC if they don't get their way in the vote... No longer just map or gametype, but also game. I see a lot of people quitting out of CE matches cause they can't handle the old-school awesomeness.

I think maybe MCC needs some kind of League of Legends type punishment where you aren't allowed into matchmaking for a set amount of time after you quit out after teams are set / the gametype is picked.

"Oh, you decided to quit out because you didn't want to play Multi Bomb on Containment? That'll be 15 minutes in the waiting queue."

And I'm talking a 15 minute wait that begins when you try to start a new matchmaking search, so you have to sit there and literally wait for it to end. If you back out of the 15 minute countdown to play single player and come back the counter picks up where it left off. (I'd be even colder and say it restarts).

But then people would just sit in match in a corner.

In that case their wait for a new game might actually be longer than if they just quit (depending on the game).

If someone is going to be that level of butthurt about not getting the game/map they wanted that they wouldn't even bother to try and play the game they're in, I think those people should consider playing a different game.

The game is now in a state where, if it were released like this, we'd describe it as having "serious issues." The kind attributable to launch-related snargles, and the kind that we'd expect to be patched quickly. Considering how much better it is than it was at launch, it puts into perspective just how bad things were.

Disconnects, crashes, and general bugginess are still common, but it's at least at a point where I'm able to complain about smaller things. Namely, what the hell's with the hit detection in H2 Classic and H1? I've hit stationary guys with the sniper rifle and had it draw blood, but no hit. I saw that YouTube video of host/non-host hit detection, so I assume it's an inherent problem with the game. Can it be fixed, though? It really sours my appetite for playing those games, which sucks since I love them.

Edit: regarding quitters in matchmaking, some friends and I are kicking around a theory that a lot of (early) quitters are people whose game crashed on them but still get loaded into the game simply because there seem to be so many of them. Does that seem plausible?

Okay - update. After 61 minutes of matchmaking, it found a game. People voted for Team Slayer. At the map loading screen, a sound started to loop, then it went to "Your connection to host has been lost". I took a video of it on my phone as it is so comical, I just knew it would go wrong.

Which playlist?

I'm going to assume you were backing out and restarting the search during those 61 minutes right?

Yes, after 4 minutes as per 343i.

It was BTB. I know people will say 'why BTB'? Because I want objective, and generally people vote for objective in BTB. This time they didn't, and I guess the host quit.

PS: BTB has been increased to 16 players now, which probably makes it harder to get a match.

No population counter but I think someone yesterday mentioned it was like 7st or 8nd in the Xbox Live listing? Which is bad by Halo standards but pretty damn good for broken game standards. I think the population will bounce back once the game is fully back on its feat.

Nope. After all the Halo 4 graphs showing how the population plummeted, there's no way 343i would put a counter in this game.

But the population is currently healthy. Even with all the problems and connectivity issues, there seems to be a lot of players in any playlist.

I know it wasn't a case of "everything's fine," but it always bothered me how the low range on that graph showing the "collapse" was still 20k active players.

Indeed. Titanfall do population numbers - they have a fraction of that.

Regarding '7th or 8th' most popular on Xbox Live for MCC - you will be disappoint if you actually check that number yourself...

Watch 343 use the MCC as an excuse to completely throw what little is left of the original gameplay out the window.

"People HATED the MCC, so obviously, we wanted to distance ourselves as much as possible from classic Halo. Halo 5 really takes the series in a new direction!!!"

Yep. That's totally what they're going to do.

As long as it doesn't kick me for the game disconnecting on me.

So many times I had to sit out in Reach because the connection to the game dropped me and it counted it as a quit.

Game is working very well for me today and last night. Less than 30 second search times. Only complaint is that I played 4 matches on lock down in a row lol

Halo is baked

Good to hear. I tried to play this past weekend and the rubberbanding was worse than BF4 at launch.

Never had that problem until now.

Yup! Just had another no lag HCS on Lockdown/TS.

Lost by 4 but I carried. Had 2 teammates go reeeeallly negative.

The lighting in H2A is weird. On maps like Lockdown and Zenith I have a hard time seeing other players from distance.

Yeah I love lockout but wtf is up with the random map selection... I've yet to even see blood gulch.

They will knock it back to 4v4 eventually. Also on rumble it will go from 10 to 8

As much as I REALLY want that CE playlist myself, I agree with their approach of making sure the multiplayer (at the very least) is fully functional before adding it.

siiiigh i know. i'm just really anxious for it. that and halo 2 classic is all i wanna play

Get out of town, they should fix the game to 110% before doing anything of the sort

Lag has been horrendous for me this afternoon.. Had a couple of host migrations that ended up on the entire game crashing, too.

  • CE needs the hitmarker boops back, on top of its own playlist (2v2 and 4v4 (can start 3v3 depending on wait time)).
  • There needs to be an Objective playlist for 4v4 and 8v8.
  • Halo 4 needs a playlist.

There needs to be a white flag option. If everyone on the team deiced to for fit then the game ends. No one want to play 5 vs 2 or in a game where you are losings by 25 plus kills.
