So much this. Everyone wants to play Slayer --- and BR slayer for that. Nothing is more annoying that getting shot from across the map 1 second after spawning.
I dunno about all that, but I'd like to see people use things besides BRs, too.

I like BR Slayer and vote for it, but every now and then you gotta change that shit up.

It's funny because the actual sandbox aspect of Halo in terms of weapons always was very bad. There are so much useless weapons in multiplayer compared to the BR. Actually ... Only BR + the four power weapons are viable in competetive play.

This is an aspect Halo 5 seems to be doing better in future tho.

The weapon balance in CE is actually pretty good. You can grenade/AR groups of people. Plasma rifle someone in place while moving into melee range and beating them down. Plasma pistol while not as OP as it is in Halo 2, does the same thing. Rocket launcher and sniper rifle power weapons. Pistol as main weapon. Really, the worst weapon in CE is the needler.

Also, everyone laments the loss of the pro-pipe from Reach. I miss the needle rifle, personally.

Since when has 5v5 become the standard for Halo? I know 4 did it, but H1-3 maps were designed with 4v4 in mind. Nobody ever played 5v5, and most of the CE and 2 maps are too crowded this way. Leave anything more than 4v4 to BTB please.

CEs BTB maps are meant to be played 5v5 the competitive way, but i get your point
the smaller maps just arent made for 10 people

  • CE needs the hitmarker boops back, on top of its own playlist (2v2 and 4v4 (can start 3v3 depending on wait time)).

yes it does, im worried that it still hasnt been implemented by 343i again with the last 3 patches
makes me think they dont intend to bring it back again, which is a huge fault

I still have trouble finding any games and I have never played a big team game. For me match making is broken, and that's the main reason I bought the game. I refuse to mess with my network settings when every other online game I play work fine pretty much 100% of the time. I'm patient, but not this patient.
 
I just found a game in BTB in under a minute, feel bad for those who can't find anything :/ I have been one of the lucky ones during this entire process I guess.

Props to him. H2 solo on legendary pissed me off, couldn't even imagine LASO.

I was rocking my CE LASO nameplate in MM the other night. LASO makes normal Legendary feel brain-dead easy.

H2 LASO is the 9th circle of hell. Nobody has done it yet and the best I've heard is someone making it to Gravemind, but it's not doable because the level won't give checkpoints, even in co-op.

The BR sucks from anything more than 30 ft. away, so I'd suggest choosing your paths more wisely. Try to keep your back towards teammates and towards walls, not running through the middle of maps to chase kills. Leaving enemies one shot while they run towards your teammates is fine, so don't chase kills or get frustrated that someone killed you resulting in a sense of "I MUST KILL THEM WHEN I RESPAWN!"

Really, the BR is terrible at distance so you shouldn't be having these problems unless..
Are you playing nothing but Warlock?
..it's a map like Warlock and it's 5v5.

It comes and goes. Just today I've found 3 games in a row in about a minute, then spent 20 minutes looking for a 4th. Consistency could use a big boost.

But yeah, I've got 109 games on the stats page... Of course, the stats are probably broken too.

I'm glad the pinging sound is gone from CE. Anytime a grenade damages you, whoever threw it knows right where you are. It was kind of ruining maps like Chill Out and Prisoner for me in customs where cautionary nades are thrown all the time. Thinking someone can be around any corner and knowing for a fact they're there are 2 completely different things and changed the flow of the maps.

Now they just need to fix power weapon spawn times and get rid of empty weapons dropping on the map. So frustrating seeing a RL on the floor only to find out it's empty. Silly Halo PC.

As for playlists, I would ideally like:

CE 2v2 and 4v4, slayer only for 2v2
Team Objective, 4v4 1,2, 2A, 3
Halo 4
Team Hardcore, H2 Classic and H3 competitive gametypes
and expand Rumble Pit to all games. 8 players.

I watched (a little at least) Mister Monopoli run Halo 2 LASO a few months ago. He was in High Charity when shit blew up in his face. I will try but I don't believe I'll be able to do it.

Alternatively, they could have removed the hitmarker boops from grenades and left them on the weapons.

It's insanely frustrating not knowing if your shots are registering and not being able to tell how far to lead. Removing it is doing more damage to gameplay than leaving it on, even with it making a sound from grenades hitting.

Suit yourself I guess. I'm not sure how perfect gameplay and gunplay can get tiresome, but ok. I mean, it's the same reason we all still love CE (plus a whole host of other classic games) all these years later isn't it? Not sure why that wouldn't apply to Titanfall.

Yep. With better netcode that had something resembling client-side hit detection (and only roughly checked plausibility on host/server), it wouldn't be necessary. But if they're going to use this shit netcode, and if shield flare isn't going to be linked to actual shot impact, some other indicator is simply necessary.

You'd really just be better off porting the entirety of the game to a newer engine.

I know in certain parts of the community that'd go over like a lead balloon, but it really is possible to make a later Halo engine emulate older ones.

I mean hell, Reach Anniversary could have gotten there with some more time and budget.

There needs to be a white flag option. If everyone on the team deiced to for fit then the game ends. No one want to play 5 vs 2 or in a game where you are losings by 25 plus kills.

Yeah, a white flag option would be nice. I think it would have to be like losing by 20+ kills and your team is outnumbered by more than one person. If you're in an even teams game and you're getting stomped on, that should just be a "take your medicine" type deal.

They should also put something in for round-based games too. If you're down by more points than there are offensive rounds remaining the game should end.
 
I am thinking of playlists that should be put in:

Halo Combat Evolved
Halo 4
Team Objective
Rumble Pit
Team Snipers
Infection/Flood
Grifball
Team Hardcore
Team Doubles
Swat

Also they should maybe think about putting in some forge maps in the H2A playlists

You might be really good at it, I have no idea.

I tend to believe people who complain about BR starts are absolute shit at the game as that's my personal experience.

EDIT: Also fuck people who vote Midship Team Slayer...people never goddamn remember that map has PLASMA WEAPON STARTS

I think a map like Warlord works way better with SMG starts but much more often than not, BR starts are the way to go. Maybe they should switch Warlord to Silenced Scoped SMG starts

But if they're going to use this shit netcode, and if shield flare isn't going to be linked to actual shot impact, some other indicator is simply necessary.

I do not know how they shipped this game, but imagine if they finally fixed it to have proper netcode.

I prefer BR start for the most part but I like variety in my shooters. That's probably why I like Halo so much.

On a map like Warlock, yes. BRs turn that map into a move two feet, shoot, kill, die, repeat sort of game which isn't fun.
Warlock is a 2v2 map. With only four players BR/Pistol starts works fine. Why people keep insisting on playing it with eight players is beyond me.

There should be another step in that, something like:

"Can you telegraph enemy movement and lead your shots so you actually hit something due to the ridiculously bad netcode?

Yes > Shoot them;

No > Try to shoot them and be completely frustrated when none of your shots register."
