Any chance of a new update dropping today?

In last weeks ODST letter they said that a new update would be coming this week that would include Spartan Ops + other fixes. I would have to imagine that would be either today or tomorrow since I doubt they'll be working on Christmas (nor will they want to push out an update when Xbox Live will be heavily used).

Fucking seriously. Out of all the messed up things in the MCC, the choice of Ascension continues to baffle. Most other issues could reasonably boil down to getting sucked into crazy/dumb schedule, but in picking Ascension they first had to stare obviously good decisions right in the face.

In Halo 2 it wasn't great by any means (Team Rifles + Banshee pilot grabbed rockets = Gross),but in Reach it was magnificently stupid because without the banshee that side of the map was a completely pointless death trap (not that the Reach Banshee should have been included on any map, ever). H2A marginally improves flow by adding more paths, but it's not enough to salvage the fundamentally awkward layout.

Ascension is just simply not a good map. I could propose some weapons changes/updates that could make the map a little more bearable, but as a whole it needs to either be scrapped or overhauled massively.

--Reduce the number of sniper rifles on the map from 2 to 1. On a map that size and that open there's absolutely no reason for there to be 2 snipers especially if you're doing BR spawns. It turns the entire game into a glorified sniper duel.

--After reducing the # of snipers that spawn, move the sniper rifles spawn point to the center of the map in the middle of the dish. Why the fuck the sniper rifles spawn right next to the most camp-able parts of the map baffles me.

--No Banshee, duh.

--Move the rocket teleporter over near where the banshee or overshield spawns. It would perhaps help get more use out of that side of the map. Plus there's no reason a teleporter from one power weapon (rockets) should send you right towards another power weapon (shotgun).

--Add some more cover to the map for the love of god.

Ascension frustrates the hell out of me because it's not a good map and I don't know a quick way to fix it and make it more fun to play. A more extensive fix to the map would probably be to add tunnels underneath the dish that lead to different parts of the map. That way there's more freedom of movement on the map and it doesn't turn into a sniper shooting gallery.

Sorry i disagree...in halo there are 2 perfect non-symmetrical maps...they are ascension and lockout

Eh, I personally love it, but I've heard almost just as much disdain for Zanzibar as I do praise; long before they remade it like a million times. :p

Real talk - I love Zanzibar, but Last Resort in Halo 3 is the superior version of the map. Adding the room underneath Camp Froman and the walkway along the wall that leads into the base were both smart ideas. So was opening up the interior of the base. It somewhat disappoints me that Stonewall is more directly influenced by Zanzibar than it is Last Resort.

True. I guess since it was for Halo 2 Anniversary, they wanted it to more closely resemble the original. But it would have been better to emulate Last Resort.

[EDIT] - Thinking back, there are only three iterations of Zanzibar. Why does it feel as if it's been more common?

If I had to wager a guess it's because Zanzibar was in the two most played games by the more hardcore Halo fans - Halo 2 and Halo 3. Plus Halo 3 also had High Ground which in a few ways was like an alternate take on the Zanzibar format. It does feel like it's been a more common map though.

A relative and I were partied up together and had successful luck the entire night with multiple playlists. Only time we ever got split up onto different teams was a 3 v 3 game due to the other people having guest players. Overall it was a pretty solid experience
and what it should have been like on day one
.

List of smallish Halo 2 maps that would have been better than Ascension for H2A

-Midship
-Turf
-Foundation
-Backwash
-Ivory Tower
-Beaver Creek
-Elongation

I honestly don't remember Ascension even being popular during Halo 2's glory days. There were no nostalgia glasses for me to remove about that map, it was always bad.

I loved ascension during the halo 2 days, but then I loved nearly every team slayer map and didn't really have any that I hated.

Ascension is also fun during team snipes as well, especially the area between the shotgun spawn and banshee ramp.

I hope the last of the major issues dies with this patch. The game is mostly playable to me, but Christmas week is make or break week.

Spartan Ops is now available as well.

Downloaded the first 95% of the patch in less than ten minuts, and now the final 5% are taking over twenty. :lol

Note: We’ve seen many inquiries about dedicated server support for Halo: The Master Chief Collection. Dedicated servers have been up and running since launch, and we continue to optimize and improve connectivity. The vast majority of games are being played on dedicated servers, but in the event that players cannot connect to a dedicated server, the lobby will stay together and the match will still occur on a peer-to-peer connection. Please be aware that you may connect to the dedicated server quickly enough that you won’t see the ‘connecting to dedicated server’ dialog. The absence of that dialog doesn’t mean that you’re not playing on a dedicated server.

Looks like the connection is fast enough we don't see it...good if true

What?

1) I have never ever seen a dialogue that says connecting to dedicated server, be it fast or slow.

2) If we're connecting to dedicated servers, why is there an extremely obvious host advantage?

3) If we're connecting to dedicated servers, why does it load for ages if random players (I suspect host) leaves because they don't want to play the game type or whatever other reason?

I can't speak for anyone else (although they very clearly speak for themselves right here) but things are not good in terms of the server connectivity here in London, U.K and I have a 120MB internet connection. The connection is my last real point of concern with this game, it's so close to being in a very playable condition (once this is resolved).

You may have an issue in your area

They say in the verbage that you don't usually see a dialog telling you it is going to a dedicated server

I figured it was this way as i have been playing a lot of halo ce and remembering how bad the netcode was for the pc version it has been very very good

Pasting here what I wrote in the other thread:

I really can't believe the game has been running on dedicated servers since launch.

The amount of lag that me and many many other have experience in no way reflects the experience on should have on dedis.

Just look at the HALO 5 beta.. I spent a good amount of time on it this weekend and had almost no lag, while I can't go a couple matches of TMCC without experiencing it.

So, IF dedicated servers really are working, there's something VERY, VERY wrong with the netcode of all the games in the collection.

agreed. Just played some H3 4-player campaign last night and my button presses took half a second to register each time. This never happened in H3 on 360.

I have no trouble believing the dedicated servers comment. I have had great connections in MCC matchmaking. I'm actually very surprised that so many people here experience a lot of lag

i haven't played much H2A because of how bad the lag was

grenade throw delay, weapon pickup delay. my luck with CE has been way better but still seems like there is a host advantage

I was hoping the update today would resolve the Halo 4 single-player counted as co-op bug, but it has not. Here goes another week where I don't touch the game. I am so frustrated with this showing for the game.

Coop does not use dedis anyways. The reason you get that delay is because Halo coop forces everyone to be synched despite differences in connection.

Agreed entirely. If that line about the dedicated servers are true, the implications are far worse than if it's a lie.

That said, my own experience disagrees strongly with their statement. I can count the number of dedicated server games I've played on my fingers, and they've all been in the H2A playlist. Halo 2 Classic is still a disaster.

I always figured I was playing on a dedicated server when I viewed the scoreboard and didn't see anyone's ping. I assumed that only appeared on P2P games.

Also, what up with the Halo 2 campaign save and continue glitch? Does it still happen? I haven't seen it in any patch notes, and I refuse to play campaign until it's fixed considering I had to restart a level 4 times.

If they've been running since launch why have I seen host migrations when people leave?

EDIT: Does anybody want to do Legendary for HCE/H2 today?

Did anyone else unlock random achievements after updating the game? The achievements for completing 350, 400, 450, and 500 games unlocked at once when i went to the Halo 4 campaign menu.

They are taking us for fucking idiots. There is no way I am getting dedicated servers. The host advantage is REAL.... In every fucking lagfest game.

How they can say that after how well the beta played is beyond me. What are they going to say after everyone gets a taste of halo on dedicated servers next week?? I could immediately tell the difference between US and EU servers.. It was night and day.

The difference between them and p2p is staggering. They are not going to be able to keep the bullshit flowing after the 29th.

See my post above.

The best part? These are those lowly grunts.

Seriously? that's awesome.

Yay MCC updates!

They should just put a UI indicator on the game lobby UI and scoreboard UI for if you're on a dedi or peer connection.
That'd quell the issue.

Halo 1 has the most obvious host advantage.

the dedicated servers comment is hard to believe

Amen.

While I've had 95% of my games run very well with no noticeable lag, I definitely noticed host advantage, especially in Halo 1.

and uh... how about a fix for CE matches not ending when the entire other team quits?

This. Do I now get penalized because I quit a Halo 1 game because the other team completely quit?
