"Halo2: 7.5 to 8 million sold as of December"?

In Microsoft's Home and Entertainment division, Holt projected sales of Halo 2, Microsoft's blockbuster video game that hit store shelves Nov. 9, could reach 7.5 million to 8 million units in the December quarter, given that the company said it sold more than 5 million copies worldwide in November alone. That could translate to $300 million to $320 million in Halo 2 revenue, which prompted Holt to raise his overall estimate for the Home and Entertainment division by $75 million for the quarter to $1.39 billion.

Some ceeraaazzy if true. When will NPD publish the latest figures?

I'd say closer to 6 - 6.5 to be honest.

Still very impressive though!!

Hahah..
Are you sure you want to speculate?? I mean, I remember a thread that showed some SERIOUS ownage regarding speculations of Halo2-selling numbers...

I wouldn´t speculate on any numbers, that thread might be bumped u know.. :D

No, he could be right. 8 million Halo 2s could most likely be shipped, which is all companies really care about (unless they severely underperform and have to buy them all back). Another 3 million in December's NPD could be about right for sell-through in the US. Probably less if it's around the world.

Great numbers, Halo 2 deserves all the steller sales its recieving. One of the best games this gen for me, multiplayer keeps me up till 4-5 am most nights

I only hope Fable tops a million soon, loved that game. Its important for MS, to help encourage funding games that arnt about guns and explosions

Bah! Both KOTOR games should reach 1 million before Fable does. I admit that Fable was a good game that had a certain charm to it despite all its problems (I think it was the music more than anything- Fucking fantastic).

That's some impressive numbers.

The multiplayer is why I'm still playing it though. I don't have any desire to do single player over again, atleast not for a while.

Fable didn't top a million yet? Hmm. That game is great, though I'm not very far still. :lol I'll get back to it soon.

Yeah that too. I hope both KOTOR also top a million.

Have a bad feeling KOTOR2 is going to bomb :(

I hope it doesn't, but I fear you may be right. Halo 2 (and GTASA) just kinda stole everyone's thunder this year.

Eh? I'm confused.

You think Halo 2 will do 3m in December in the US?

6.5m in a 2 months in the US alone? More than GTA:VC has done in total?

It will struggle to do 1.5m in December, maybe edging close to 5m by the end of the year MAX.

It's been outsold by both GTA:SA and NFS2:U all through December. They both won't do much over a million.

I'd suggest something like:

GTA:SA 1.4m (5m total)
Halo 2 1.2m (4.6m total)
NFSU2 0.9m PS2
NFSU2 0.5m XB

I know I originally said it was crazy to think Halo2 would do 2m in November, but come on! The game is so front-loaded it's not true. It did 2.4m in it's first day and "only" 900k or so over the next 3 weeks. What makes you think it'll jump back to 3 million over xmas? That's just insane!!

"It's been outsold by both GTA:SA and NFS2:U all through December. They both won't do much over a million."

huh? what? huh?

Look at the rental charts.

Look at the weekly sales chart that Gamespot puts up (without numbers).

GTA:SA and NFSU2 have been ahead of Halo 2 for most of the month.

Look at previous histories, always a good place to start.

In 2002, GTA: VC basicalld did:

Oct 1.5m
Nov 1.5m
Dec 1.5m

in 2004, GTA:SA has done:

Oct 2.1m
Nov 1.5m
Dec ??

Logic could go either way. It could be more front-loaded than VC and thus not pick up as much in Dec (often happens with sequels, and the fact that it dropped from Oct when VC didn't could support this).

So 1.4m sounds a good estimate. I guess anywhere from about 1.2 to about 1.8 could be reasonable.

Look at 2003, NFSU:

Nov 300k
Dec 1100k

NFSU2:

Nov 450k
Dec ??

Again, I'd have thought NFSU2 a bit more frontloaded so may drop-off a bit more in Dec, but around a million would be a good guess.

So you draw your own conclusions....

Remember December is the biggest sales month. Halo 2's numbers could be close to what it did in November just because of the holiday season. I'd stop making predictions if i were you :lol

But only Halo 2's #'s would have gone up... of course all the other titles would have stayed the same...

Gamespot source EB numbers i think. Anyway, you are following the exact same pattern as before

Id like to see other doubters make their predictions in this thread. Should be entertaining when Jan NPD is released

Yes, December is the biggest sales month.

If a game had been released in, say, March, and had done 50k in November, then yes- 120-150k in December would be reasonable.

If you take an average game that releases in November and does about 300k, you may expect 350-400k in December as it will get a big boost.

If you take a game like Halo 2, and bear in mind the following points:

-The XB userbase is around 10m in the US
-Halo has sold about 3.8m in the US total
-The biggest selling home-console game of the last 10 years has done about 6.5m
-The drop-off in November to sell 3.3m from 2.4 on the first day is huge, it probably only did 150-200k the last week of Nov.

Anyone expecting it to match in December what it did in November is loopy.

Here's another one:

Last 3 weeks of Nov, Halo 2 did 900k. Say it was split equally (unlikely, but hey), that's 300k per week.

GTA:SA did 1.5m in 4 weeks. Split that equally and you get 375k per week.

I'd be pretty sure that by the last week of Nov and early Dec, GTA:SA was ahead of Halo 2 on a week-by-week basis.

Those are indeed impressive numbers, and there really is no need to exaggerate them. When sales/shipment numbers are not accurate, it eventually comes back to bite a company in the ass, devaluing stock, etc.

I thought Halo 2 was a very good game. I enjoyed the action, storyline, and settings, although it did get a little repetitive in it's design, but I've felt that about some other recent first person shooters as well. (*ahem* Doom 3 *ahem*). Still, I thought it was a fun ride, even if the ending is a bit...uh...abrupt.

As for Fable, I enjoyed it as well, even if it was not the game we were told we were going to get. It could have used a little more freedom of movement, more quests, and more length in general. Still, it was fun while it lasted.

I'm knee deep in KOTOR 2 right now, and despite the bugs, and general lack of polish, I'm enjoying it. I hope it sells well, I'd play a third one, but they should take their time and finish it up correctly next time.

All three of these games deserve to sell a million plus copies and get the recognition they deserve.

KFJ

They are currently only estimates, not PR numbers from Microsoft.

I like Halo 2, it's a fun game. I just feel that it's crazy sales are much more a product of Microsoft's marketing than anything else, and they cannot be sustained since there just isn't the userbase of people out there to keep buying the game. When you've got a 50% attach ratio for a game, I can't really see where u can go from there.

i havent played halo 2 LE in almost a month

even imported a kb/mouse adapter for 50!

meh maybe I just dont like games anymore

gta:sa unplayed
paper mario 2: unplayed
halo 2: unplayed
thug 2: unplayed

hell even RE Remake is unplayed O_O

forget all about the PS2s larger userbase. You're just insane if you think halo 2 is just going to fall off.

Up to 8 million? Nah, topping Vice City's numbers would be TOO insane.

Halo 2 would've sold more if there wasn't a HUGE shortage of Xboxes this Xmas.

but just how big is the shortage? if there were 1,000,000+ on shelves and another .5, 1m shipped a shortage wouldnt be that bad of a thing.

Of course it's going to fall off. It did 2.4m on it's first day, it has no choice but to.

Ok, ok.

You can quote me on this, and take the piss all you want, but I'm sticking to this.

GTA:SA will outsell Halo 2 in December

GTA:SA will not sell more than 1.7m in December

And that's all I'm saying.

Same for me on both counts. I am up far too late playing this game.

And I love Fable, I think it's pretty underrated and too much is focused on what it wasn't rather than what it is.
