Hard Corps: Uprising |OT| - I TOLD U THIS UPRISING WAS HARD CORPS!

Part of me refuses to play Rising mode, but I almost sort of get the feeling the game was built around Rising mode from what I'm hearing. Maybe I should dive in first? My Contra instincts want me to press on through Arcade though. :\

It's up to you , the first thing i did was play arcade mode and got to stage 3.
After that i went into rising mode to learn the stages , since then it's been easier for me .
If you want to learn the stages the hard way just play arcade mode.

Have to buy another psn card to pick up the dlc chars.

I wouldn't say the game was built around Rising mode; Arcade is very punishing and the difficulty curve is fairly steep. Rising eases you in instead of throwing you right into the deep end.

When I first bought the game I had no intention of playing Rising, but after I saw that it was just an "alternate" mode instead of an easy/novice mode, I played it exclusively until I knew I could clear Arcade on one credit. Then I only used Rising to practice the later stages when going for the 1CC + 1LC.

I'm actually really broke right now.... but I still bought it, don't know what's gotten into me. Just something about the art style. Oh well, haven't played an arcade shootemup since the SNES days, Waiting for download to finish & time to get violated!

Good to know. Maybe I'll jump into Rising mode next time I play it.

Haha, that's exactly how I feel. I've only had time to play a few games and have only managed to get to the start of level 2 in Arcade, but each time I play I'm getting a little further/doing a little better and that's what I love about Contra. You really feel like you're improving and it's not often you hit a wall skill-wise and can't improve.

The s-ranking videos on youtube have people literally just running straight though levels (the first one at least) full speed with maxed out weapons and it looks kind of boring. I guess it took a while before they got their characters up to that level though.

I haven't played Rising mode yet and have no plans to try it, but Arcade mode definitely doesn't leave me with the impression that it took the backseat.

Alright, this is the layout I've settled on with my arcade stick.
Thumb hovers over jump, pointer hovers over shoot, middle over strafe and ring finger over fixed shot.
Weapon change is a secondary action I can reach with my thumb when necessary and I have no clue what the action button does, so it's out of the way.

So has any info on the soundtrack for this game popped up anywhere yet?

Rising mode is fun if you just want to over power the game .
If your going for skill run arcade mode it what you do.
Not trying to 1cc the arcade mode yet cause i want to use Sayuri but short on money to but her right now.

There's no demo available on its own now, but the game comes in the form of the demo and an unlock so there will be one in the future. Probably next week

I think so. I'm having a blast with the game and definitely think it's worth the price

just remember you have the option to buy it at 14.99 and buy the DLC individually, later or never at all.

Game cost 15 you don't have to buy the other chars to enjoy the game.
You can get plenty of play time with just the 2 of the chars.

Still i play these games over and over again so it worth the price to me.

Ok. This game is Hard. Really Hard.

I really love it, but God, those bosses really refuse to die. I played on arcade mode and could not get past level 2. I will switch to rising mode to try and learn the levels.

It has a few annoyances, but if you're in the mood for an action packed side-scroller, then I personally feel it's really worth it! And I'm getting owned non stop... good god my reflexes are being tested to their limits.

I wanted the game so badly but at this price (wasn't it $10 on PS3?) and day one DLC, I'll just wait for another day...
Konami screwed up on the press release and sent a new one. It was always supposed to be $15.

It's a better, meatier, more content-filled game than the vast majority of modern critically praised $60 games, if that helps.

I just bought Sayuri and the ninja guy. Sayuri is really fun.

This game is awesome. I haven't been able to beat level 1 yet, though. lol. My skills are lacking.

Edit: heh, just beat lvl 1 with Sayuri. She's pretty broken. hahahaha

Okay, I played some Arcade mode and I guess I'm officially done with Rising mode. J don't know if it's urgency of what, but I get further on one credit in Arcade than j do in Rising. I'll leave the RPG grinding to EDF or something.

Loving the game now. My initial impressions based on the 360 demo weren't great, but once you really sit down and give it your best, it really becomes pretty great. It seems pretty well designed. It's not as rigid as Contra: Shattered Soldier and ends up feeling like a cross between Contra and Metal Slug, which isn't a bad thing.

Love the way it looks too.

I think this is may favorite DD game since Bionic Commando ReArmed. Good show Arc System Works.

I still suck ass though.

Is that stage 4 boss a
Gradius reference
?

Played again today and made it to level 4 without to much trouble, but blew all my continues there. The highway is just relentless, managed to make it to the final boss of the area but I was out of lives and continues at that point.

Still rolling just arcade mode though, how many stages are there btw?

Game is kinda crazy especially the 6th dungeon's boss (Arachne).

I'm still in Rising mode and I'm not sure if I'll ever finish Arcade mode, let alone get past the second stage. I'm kinda cruising through Rising mode though (the rapid shot really helps).

Any tips to breeze through arcade mode?

None really, if you've played previous Contra games it just comes down to mastering each level one by one. Ive pretty much nailed down the first 3 so far myself. Figuring out the best weapons to use on bosses is important in this one as well it seems.

Btw guys, it looks like your score gives you extra continues, is that correct. Im pretty sure, unless theres something Im picking up thats giving me the extra continues?

So are there any differences between the ps3 and 360 versions? Quicker load times or better sound quality or anything? I wanna pick this up in the next week but I dunno what system to get it for :-/

Hot stuff. I'm using Rising to get better, but once you know the bosses, you'll be able to breeze through Arcade mode.

Stage 5 was some WTF though.

Escort and stealth in a run and gun? Really?

Twice I've been disconnected from online co-op though. Bad sign.

Yeah I've had some issues connecting occasionally

but once I'm in it's smooth as butter. Played entire game with friend in Europe with hardly any delay, when we tried Gunstar Heroes and MvC3 prior with significant input delay.

I was really surprised how good it was.

Contra title screen remix on the XMB icon is reason enough to get the PS3 version...I couldn't resist getting it after I heard it after downloading the demo despite telling myself to hold off for a sale.

Indeed. I need a MP3 of it!

Hmm... after watching a few videos of it on youtube, it seems as though the PS3's versions load times are dramatically reduced. As in, they're half as long as the 360's, at worst.

I won't say this a bad game (somewhat decent platformer)...

...but I really want Konami to one day look back at Contra 1-3 and Hard Corps Genesis, then tell themselves that if Capcom can recreate the oldschool charm with Mega Man 9 and 10 (best XBLA games), then they too can make a REAL Contra sequel for consoles.

Same wish for some oldschool Castlevania.

Assuming it's the same as the video in GB's quick look then, yeah, the PS3 version has improved load times.

Isn't Castlevania Rebirth exactly that?

Shattered Soldier on PS2 was very much like Contra Hard Corps on Genesis. They shared some of the same team members as well.

To be honest, I'd like to see an Arc System Works Castlevania game. I love their artwork in this game.

Just finished Hard Corps: Uprising and all I can say is it's so awesome :D

I totally agree that a new Castlevania, Megaman X, and/or Strider in this style would be pure <3

Though playing as Sayuri kinda gives a sample of how Strider would be like :D
