Man what a kick in the guts. I don't think a celebrity death has affected me this much before.

What a weird morning. I had borrowed a really legit looking Ghostbusters costume off a friend recently to get some photos. He dropped in at about 5:30 in the morning, I had also found a cool 1:18 scale Ecto 1 really cheap and was getting one for him too.

We were both standing in my driveway while he was showing me how loud the proton pack could get and how it could play the ghostbusters song while I stood there holding the model. Some joggers ran past and must have wondered wtf was going on. Just before he leaves he goes "did you see one of the ghostbusters died?" I go "what?!" and "yeah spengler"

And then I just stood stunned while he drove off. Fuck.

Then I saw this pic on twitter, taken outside of the ghostbusters fire house in New York

And then the LORD David Bowie saith to his Son, Jonny Depp: 'Go, and spread my image amongst the cosmos. For every living thing is in anguish and only the LIGHT shall give them reprieve.'
The man was a genius. He either wrote or directed all the movies that defined comedy for their time. And a brilliant actor of course. What a formidable list this is:

SCTV
Animal House
Meatballs
Vacation
Caddyshack
Stripes
Ghostbusters
Back To School
Groundhog Day
Multiplicity
Analyze This

Ghostbusters 3 to be a documentary where Murray, Aykroyd, and Hudson go to the other side and get him back!

RIP Ramis, you were awesome.

Damn, this sucks. I just watched Ghostbusters on Saturday and thought "It is so freakin' awesome that all these guys are still around!"

Have the Co-stars of Ghostbusters made any kind of statement yet?
Murray sorta did, but it sounds lawyer-written and I hope he reflects on it more sometime in the future.
Just saw this short statement from Bill Murray:

"Harold Ramis and I together did the National Lampoon Show off Broadway, Meatballs, Stripes, Caddyshack, Ghostbusters and Groundhog Day. He earned his keep on this planet. God bless him."
.
Aykroyd has.

Did Ramis and Murray ever make nice?
Sorta. Ramis has been sick for a long time and sometime in the past couple years Murray visited him and they were cordial, allegedly.

I'm never sad when someone of his caliber dies because we can appreciate what an amazing person he was/is through his work.

I mean, my god he is responsible for giving us Groundhog Day.....GROUNDHOG DAY!

My favorite movie of all time!

I can't be sad.

:-(

RIP to a talented writer, director, and actor. Growing up, Ghostbusters, Caddyshack, and Groundhog Day were some of my favorite movies and that still holds true to this day.

This is a lesser world now that he's gone :'(

This sucks :(

RIP, he gave me one of my favourite movies ever in Groundhog Day. I will watch it for the thousandth time tonight in his honour.

I love Murray but that rings a bit hollow

"I did some movies with him, he did well"

Yeah, they went their separate ways after Groundhog Day. Bill is a very big character, likes attention, sometimes ruffles a few feathers. I bet he could be quite hard to work with in some instances especially to direct.

Amazing guy to go out and get wasted or play a round of golf with ;)

But there's no way this wouldn't break his heart, just he's carrying on with that short and succinct façade because he hadn't been on best terms with Ramis' these last few years and maybe there's bit of anger aimed at himself in there, amongst other stuff.

Wait, there was a rift between Murray and Ramis? Why? I thought it was Aykroyd that Murray had beef with.

iirc it started over groundhog day. murray wanted it to be darker and ramis wanted it to be lighter. their fighting led to compromises that made the film what it was.
