Where does it say that he didn't?

Unless you have something else you're going off of?
Or just want him to quit for the sake of quitting/"The Simpsons has gone on too long."

That the actors are allowed to literally phone in their lines pretty much says it all.

To be honest, I'm a little disappointed strictly from a morbid curiosity standpoint.

I wanted to see:

A.) What the hell the new voices would sound like for Shearer's characters and
B.) If they would give a story explanation or something.

I'll be honest, yes. But even if a major cast departure doesn't end the show, anything to shake up the show's complacency is welcome at this point.

Because that worked out so well with killing off Maude Flanders...

(That was pretty much the beginning of the end of the show for me)

How did I know as soon as I saw this thread back on the first page that he was coming back? Just end the show already.

I mean, there were some signs before it as well...
And there was still a decent amount of good stuff after it also...

But that was the "They're resorting to this now? [regardless of the issue with the voice actress] Really? That's not a good sign..." moment.

An inside source says Shearer would have preferred a non-descript briefcase to the sack with the dollar sign on it. But I guess he had to meet them halfway.

I know what you guys mean about morbid curiousity though. Would have appreciated people who have no concept of narrative quality or character integrity actually realising something had gone wrong with the show.

They drove a dump truck full of money up to his house! He's not made of stone!

"So Mr. Shearer, why did you re-neg on your promise to leave the show."
"Well, I thought they had a lot of good stories and...oh look, my laundry is done."

pre maude-death eps from s11

"Beyond Blunderdome"
"Brother's Little Helper"
"Guess Who's Coming to Criticize Dinner"
"Treehouse of Horror X"
"E-I-E-I-(Annoyed Grunt)"
"Hello Gutter, Hello Fadder"
"Eight Misbehavin'"
"Take My Wife, Sleaze"
"Grift of the Magi"
"Little Big Mom"
"Faith Off"
"The Mansion Family"
"Saddlesore Galactica"

post maude-death eps from s11

"Missionary: Impossible"
"Pygmoelian"
"Bart to the Future"
"Days of Wine and D'oh'ses"
"Kill the Alligator and Run"
"Last Tap Dance in Springfield"
"It's a Mad, Mad, Mad, Mad Marge"
"Behind the Laughter"

I can see it. There's a lot of garbage in the latter half of that season and some salvageable bits from the first half (funzo, tomacco). Past season eleven there are maybe 2-3 watchable episodes per season.

A.) Slightly off impersonations? The characters are too old and well-known for a totally new voice.
B.) Probably not. Why bother? Too many characters are involved.
