Hslo on PS5 is probably gonna do better than Death Stranding 2, I reckon. 🤔

@Kacho , thoughts?

Defintely

Me and my mates were huge Halo fans going back to the original and would regularly party up on 2 and 3 on Live. We all lost interest a couple of months after Halo 4 arrived. In 2014 we all got PS4s and never went back to Xbox.

We all bemoan modern online shooters though, so the potential of Halo returning back to its roots is really exciting.

Also, if you're an Xbox fan, surely this is by far the best PlayStation generation in history…

First party has been very poor, due to Sonys massive misadventure in Gaas. But as a totality of games and quality of hardware and controller and ecosystem, most definitely not, it's very good.

PS2 was my first console, I played the shit out of it even taking it on an exchange semester.
PS3 was forgotten, I was in my World of Warcraft phase.
PS4 rivalled PS2, I played that gen A LOT.
I almost never touched PS5, sold it in January and never looked back.

I just don't get why people are so retardedly hung up on first-party output.

Its a bullshit metric because as seen with Xbox over the last few years, you can go from having inarguably the worst first-party of the major console players, to having the best simply by expending billions in acquisitions.

Meanwhile, the same dogshit management remains in place so that the end result is simply that more and bigger franchises enter terminal decline, and they are forced to hard pivot to multi-platform and slash headcounts in order to cover sky-rocketing running costs!

Is this what "winning" the first-party war looks like ? Really ?

No, I personally still think the PS3 was the worst followed by the PS5. It had great exclusives but outside those, performance was so bad. I bought every third party game on the 360 at the time.

By decade? The discussion is by generation bro

I still think its wild so many people voted ps3, there are so many incredible important games that come from that era. I dream of a time when things could be that exciting again.

Playstation 5 catalogue, when all is said and done around 2031 or 32, will be simply legendary.

Couple it with no loading times, a great controller, silent hardware, great accessories as PS Portal or VR2, sleek interface and it's a great console

The Playstation 3 is the only Sony console I loathe, bad controller, terrible performance, and ugly as sin. I primarily played my xbox 360 that whole generation, even with the rings of death... The only thing i had a PS3 for was the Gran Turismo games.

It's just the console concept that is dying out. Games are too expensive and can no longer be used to promote a hardware that is stagnating.

People voting PS3 are mostly doing so on the basis of the hardware/pricing debacle, whereas people voting PS5 are mostly doing it on the basis of the exclusive game catalog.

So, different criteria.

Ridiculous thread considering that PS5 will be the generation when all Microsoft exclusives will be on PlayStation which means that PlayStation will get all games but Nintendo's, something unprecedented.
And in general there are more games than ever to play.
But some people are still pretending that PS1 and PS2 made their fortunes on first party games 😂 this is just being completely out of touch with reality or simply being left behind.

I think Sony deserves some criticism. Studios like Bluepoint, Bend, and Naughty Dog could have been managed better — all of them were affected by the live-service (GAAS) strategy.

On the other hand, Insomniac is about to deliver four or more games for the PS5. Housemarque was acquired, and their production value level increased significantly with Returnal and now Saros. Team Asobi made one of the most awarded game in recent years, and honestly, Astro Bot is well above anything Japan Studio produced on its own in the past decade.

So, what I see is this: they made mistakes on one side but got it right on the other.

Now, saying this is the worst PlayStation console generation because of the first-party output doesn't make much sense. On PS1 and PS2, the most impactful games were mostly third-party. On PS3, quality was solid, but things only truly improved around the middle of the PS4 generation.

Anyway, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Personally, I think Sony can do better, but I also find it unfair to look at a publisher that delivered Gran Turismo 7, God of War Ragnarök, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Death Stranding 2, Helldivers 2, Astro Bot, and Ghost of Yotei in the past few years — and claim they somehow released "too few games." Sony's level of quality and consistency remains quite unique.
