Hslo on PS5 is probably gonna do better than Death Stranding 2, I reckon. 🤔

@Kacho , thoughts?

Defintely

Me and my mates were huge Halo fans going back to the original and would regularly party up on 2 and 3 on Live. We all lost interest a couple of months after Halo 4 arrived. In 2014 we all got PS4s and never went back to Xbox.

We all bemoan modern online shooters though, so the potential of Halo returning back to its roots is really exciting.

Also, if you're an Xbox fan, surely this is by far the best PlayStation generation in history…

PS2 was my first console, I played the shit out of it even taking it on an exchange semester.
PS3 was forgotten, I was in my World of Warcraft phase.
PS4 rivalled PS2, I played that gen A LOT.
I almost never touched PS5, sold it in January and never looked back.

I just don't get why people are so retardedly hung up on first-party output.

Its a bullshit metric because as seen with Xbox over the last few years, you can go from having inarguably the worst first-party of the major console players, to having the best simply by expending billions in acquisitions.

Meanwhile, the same dogshit management remains in place so that the end result is simply that more and bigger franchises enter terminal decline, and they are forced to hard pivot to multi-platform and slash headcounts in order to cover sky-rocketing running costs!

Is this what "winning" the first-party war looks like ? Really ?

No, I personally still think the PS3 was the worst followed by the PS5. It had great exclusives but outside those, performance was so bad. I bought every third party game on the 360 at the time.

I still think its wild so many people voted ps3, there are so many incredible important games that come from that era. I dream of a time when things could be that exciting again.

Playstation 5 catalogue, when all is said and done around 2031 or 32, will be simply legendary.

Couple it with no loading times, a great controller, silent hardware, great accessories as PS Portal or VR2, sleek interface and it's a great console

The Playstation 3 is the only Sony console I loathe, bad controller, terrible performance, and ugly as sin. I primarily played my xbox 360 that whole generation, even with the rings of death... The only thing i had a PS3 for was the Gran Turismo games.

People voting PS3 are mostly doing so on the basis of the hardware/pricing debacle, whereas people voting PS5 are mostly doing it on the basis of the exclusive game catalog. (edit: and some are basing it on sales)

So, different criteria.

Ridiculous thread considering that PS5 will be the generation when all Microsoft exclusives will be on PlayStation which means that PlayStation will get all games but Nintendo's, something unprecedented.
And in general there are more games than ever to play.
But some people are still pretending that PS1 and PS2 made their fortunes on first party games 😂 this is just being completely out of touch with reality or simply being left behind.

I think Sony deserves some criticism. Studios like Bluepoint, Bend, and Naughty Dog could have been managed better — all of them were affected by the live-service (GAAS) strategy.

On the other hand, Insomniac is about to deliver four or more games for the PS5. Housemarque was acquired, and their production value level increased significantly with Returnal and now Saros. Team Asobi made one of the most awarded game in recent years, and honestly, Astro Bot is well above anything Japan Studio produced on its own in the past decade.

So, what I see is this: they made mistakes on one side but got it right on the other.

Now, saying this is the worst PlayStation console generation because of the first-party output doesn't make much sense. On PS1 and PS2, the most impactful games were mostly third-party. On PS3, quality was solid, but things only truly improved around the middle of the PS4 generation.

Anyway, everyone is entitled to their opinion. Personally, I think Sony can do better, but I also find it unfair to look at a publisher that delivered Gran Turismo 7, God of War Ragnarök, Returnal, Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart, Death Stranding 2, Helldivers 2, Astro Bot, and Ghost of Yotei in the past few years — and claim they somehow released "too few games." Sony's level of quality and consistency remains quite unique.

I've surprised myself and changed my vote from PS5 to PS3.

Now that the PS5 has gotten Forza Horizon, Gears of War, and has Flight Simulator, Halo, Fable, Gears: E-Day, and others on the way... Yeah, it's no longer the worst.

How can a generation where your biggest competitor's formerly exclusive games now come to your platform be the worst?

Yeah, good point. It's hard to call it Sony's worst generation when their main competitor imploded, surrendered, and gifted them almost all their main exclusives.

I've personally been disappointed with Sony's exclusives this generation, but it's hard to call it their worst generation in that context. Changed my vote to PS3, too.

I feel like the title is a bit too premature. By the time PS5 era ends it will have PS4 crossgen titles, PS5 only titles and then PS5/PS6 titles (which will probably go until like 2033 or something). Add to that almost all 3rd party titles out there INCLUDING Xbox titles...i don't see how this will be the worst PS generation ever tbh.

Studios like Naughty Dog, Sony Santa Monica, Media Molecule, Bluepoint, Insomniac are literally making PS5 games as we speak. We also got a main Gran Turismo title for the first time since the PS3 era in 2022.

Add to this the introduction of multiple PS Plus tiers, the PS Dual Sense, the PS5 hardware...everything has been a step up and more premium this gen than in previous PS gens. The one thing Sony did wrong was the live games push that ended up backfiring.

My opinion will not change.

I used to be a primarily pc gamer( although I also took like a decade off of gaming), and ps4 was my first ps console( played ps1 and ls3 games at a friend's place).

Compared to ps4, I will still say ps5 is worse.

Ps5 has great games, great hardware, etc but honestly the level of excitement is quite low. Whereas during ps4 days, every event felt amazing and I was pretty excited for a lot of stuff. Doesn't help that most ps5 sequels of ps4 classics haven't been able to be better. At best, they are at the same level, and unfortunately, in some cases they are objectively worse than their ps4 originals.

I thought I said it here, but for me PS3 has to be the absolute worst gen for them.

For the longest time I didn't go for either PS3 or XB360, and I never really felt like I missed out on something, especially given that I was in a big JRPG phase. And by the time the gen ended, most of anything that I deemed worthwhile on PS3 was remastered for PS4 with better visuals and performance.

Sony itself certainly thinks so as well, like they show zero willingness to be too nostalgic about Resistance or Killzone, because those titles (as good as they can be), were not really integral to their rescue effort at the tail end of the gen. Nor did they massively contribute to their meteoric rise with PS4 either..

I regretted my PS3. It ended up being my MLB the Show machine with a JRPG here and there.

Games always felt so off on it.

This is the best Sony gen so far. Every MS game will be on PS5. Xbox is dead. Nintendo is on their own thing or handheld stuff. Sony is alone in the TV console.
and at the same time they made the PS5 console completely irrelevant compared to a PC

PS2 had such an amazing library you could ONLY get there

PS5 library is a small subset of Steam

Worst Sony console by far

Well in my country PC gaming is around 33% more expensive because of taxes than in the US. Any hardware you have to add the taxes. In my country the PS5 is the best way to play. Xbox is long dead here. You enter a store and you see PS5 and Switch. I agree with you as long we are talking about the US where PC gaming is cheaper. Outside the US it's not like you said.

As someone who had every PS console until now, probably PS5.
When I think PS5 the thing that first pops into my head is exclusives coming to PC, also many remasters/remakes of past PS generations.

If you compare it to the PS4 during the same period, games made by Sony's studios are only two games apart.

Now, the PS4 has had more games made by other studios but exclusive (Sony IPs) if you compare it during the same period (despite bad games like The Tomorrow Children, Shadow of the Beast, The Order, and Until Dawn).

In the next two years

studios sony: we'll have Intergalactic, Wolverine, Saros, Venom, New Horizons, and a new Santa Monica game.

in addition to partner games (temporary console exclusives): nioh 3, phantom blade zero, MARVEL Tōkon: Fighting Souls...etc

All before the PS6 launches.

We need to start counting how many games Microsoft has released on PS5 vs how many PS Studios have.

Another one counting everything from Microsoft (counting Bethesda/Activition, etc) vs how many PS Exclusives counting external studios (shift studios, etc).

Sony has really dropped the ball so badly this gen. It's unbelievable how Microsoft brought Forza, Halo, Gears of War, probably Fable to PS. Then they released Indiana Jones, Hellblade 2, etc.

PS Studios are nowhere to be found this gen. If it wasn't for Insomniac Games, the PS5 would be completely empty.

You can't say "only" when the difference is Knack 1 and Knack 2.

And this is before we realize that Concord is on the PS5 side of that list. Not a wise move. It counts as -10 games.

Multiple cross-gen games on the PS5 side, tho. Not sure if they would be counted as notches on the PS5's belt.

GT, Horizon, Ragnarok, Miles Morales.

Same for Stray, Kena, Sifu and Tchia.

You can also remove Persona 5 and Yakuza 0 from the PS4 side, I guess, cause they were cross-gen to PS3.

This is a personal opinion poll so there is no "bullshit" or "retarded" metric.. everyone should choose their own and vote accordingly

And lol by no means MS has the "best" first party even after buying all those publishers.

It's the main reason why you buy a specific console. And if 1st party games you're interested in aren't coming frequently enough you end up like me with dusty consoles and playing on PC instead and considering skipping the next console.

Switch 2 is also collecting dust right now. My kids use it though so it's not collecting dust at least, but for me personally it's been a disappointment.

I was going to click PS3 but then I remembered that the PS3 generation gave us Uncharted, Last of Us, Infamous, Demon's Souls & Dark Souls, Assassin's Creed, Bioshock, Mass Effect, Dead Space, Nier, Bayonetta, Borderlands, Batman Arkham Asylum, Fallout 3, just to mention a few.

Meanwhile, the PS5 generation has given us mostly our dick in our hand. Plus AstroBot.

Ps5 is the worse, but I still enjoyed a few games especially Death stranding 1&2, stellar blade, gt7, and Sh2 remake. And it is a very good hardware.

Also hardware design wise PS5 generation is diabolical. PS1-4 were beautiful, architectural objects. Both functional but also aspirational.

PS5, especially the original, is this unnecessarily big warped mess that requires small plastic feet not to wobble. It's the first PlayStation so ugly I can't have it out in the wild, kinda what happened with OG Xbox.

What really bugs me is that I don't understand what was the thinking of making it so ugly. Hopefully the hardware design book will shed light on the design process.
