Have you guys seen the story of Gabby Petito? A vlogger who was missing and then found dead?

The reason why Gabby resonates with me is because I've been to all the places she has been to recently after the lockdown.
A whole lot of America visited these same spots after the outdoors crazy hit us from being locked down.
Going to National Parks have been the thing to do.

It should have been a freeing experience a true bonding experience with her fiance.
who most of us already knew was the killer

"due process"
yes we deserve, but..

Most of us feel like we just saw the killer get away in slow motion right in front of our eyes.
RIP to the poor girl. I hope the Crocs eat him.

So its conformed her fiance is the killer or is just speculation..?
Speculation.

But all signs point to yes, unless there's some secret plot we dont know about where he and someone else they met on their roadtrip killed her.

But given the details and the fact he and his family arent speaking to anyone about it, since he got back from his trip, no doubt he's in on it.

They went on a trip together, where they got into violent arguments. He's the only one who returned from the trip. When the parents reported her missing, he lawyered up and refused to cooperate with police or her family in any way. When her body was found, he fled. The FBI have since raided his home.

We don't know the exact circumstances of her death, but these are not the actions of an innocent person.

“Aww, it’s so...average,” she said to him in a cold brick of passion

He actually went "missing" before they found her. The police thought he was in his parents house. The family neglected to tell the police that he actually left days earlier and they hadn't seen or heard from him since. This was around the same time that the dashcam footage of another couple showed her van on the side of the road and that's near where the body was found.

Which to me makes him seem that much more guilty. Because he knew they were close to finding her.

What's also wild is it's probably because there are other aspiring "influencers" or whatever out there filming everything that they were able to find the body so quickly. Ten years ago you see a guy acting weird with a van, you probably just keep driving and forget about it. At most you might connect the dots and tell the FBI "I think I maybe saw this guy around this area around this day..."

Now it's instantly enshrined in some geolocatable TikTok or whatever. So let that be a lesson, ye GAFfers: don't do the murder.

video starts with cable news stuff but actually Saagar does a good job of why this story caught on. Actually the thing is before it became mainstream news I remember seeing someone on twitch streaming them react to body cam footage and was confused what that even was and thought nothing of it. Then weeks later this story blew up, apparently she went missing last month. So what alot of people don't understand is that this thing was already bubbling on the internet then it was only later mainstream news picked it up.

Can someone explain a non american why this news is getting so much attention? What makes it so different from the hundreds of similar cases that happen each year?
Gabby was the type of lady, that you could be talking to your best friend in the whole world, and then Gabby comes in and you'd go "Fuck you, I'm talking to Gabby". Because Gabby is better than you, come on, let's face it. She's better than all of us.

Arrest warrant out for Brian Laundrie. They have search teams looking for him in the woods/bogs/swamps/whatever in Florida.

New witness says they were fighting at a restaurant, that Brian was shouting and aggressive with not only Gabby but their waitress, the hostess, and the manager.

This story is a perfect example of some of the stuff we talk about in threads here.

Social media image.

Every pic looks like the perfect life and couple. All I know googling some of this event is a million pics of super chill and happy go lucky lifestyle.

And look what happened behind the scenes. Very doubtful that fateful day was the only time they argued and fought. So behind the scenes at some point (if it gets revealed) will surely be some secret anger and fuckery going on.

So for all the people who are miserable at staring at people's lives on the net. Ignore it. Half of it is probably all lies. It's like a company. The company might be shambles and a shitty culture, but man does that PR guy on Twitter make the company sound great and the webmaster sure knows how to upload awesome company photos and staged employees with a happy face.

Never seen these guys before but that made a lot of sense. Gave them a subscribe, which I almost never do.
Yes, the whole situation is frankly disgusting knowing that on the same day kids are abused, old people die alone, etc.
But no, let’s make a huge news about killed white, blonde American girl-next-door. Basically everything wrong with social media rolled into one.

At least one of them now gets attention instead of none. You woke racist crazies only care about skin color.

So basically, girl goes vlogging with her boyfriend.
Boyfriend and she can't get along for shit. ( funny enough best relationship tests are camping vacation of a week ), u will know if u can stand eachother or not after that.
It escalates to the point they are fighting everywhere even cops pull them over and split them.
They continue to go further on there trip where there is a spot where they lose cellphone coverage for multiple days so she can't be in contact with her parents.
Boyfriend returns home without her.
They found her body and the guy bails.

Meanwhile salty traditional media found out they where second in line after the internet and try to up the story by putting a racisme spin on it like the grifters they are.

Sounds about right.

Honestly he killed her most likely in a rage spree. Or she threatened him for some reason to "explose him on her social media" and he was like nope.

I honestly have no idea what you're talking about. Did you watch the whole video? And what do you suggest be done? Report on every death, abduction, crime in the world? There's not enough hours in the day homie.

The opposite - don’t report on it, especially since it’s nothing out of the ordinary, the girl just happens to be cute, white, and a blogger. This shouldn’t be news to begin with.

I think the news outlets complaining about "missing white woman syndrome" should absolutely not report on it. Everyone else can continue on as normal. Everything is "not news" to someone.

I think its despicably racist and sexist. These fuckers think they have the right to tell people who they are entitled to feel concern and sympathy for. That only their prescribed groups are worthy of interest, and their mobilization of shame in order to enforce that rule.

Scum.

Two spoiled young adults with their heads full of dumb ideas go on a vlogging trip for social media clout and get into a fight. Things escalate, an accident happens and the girl dies. Dude freaks out and runs away.
Why the f*ck should we care?

Also the "white girl missing syndrome" is the dumbest most racist crap I've had the displeasure to read about this week. U.S. media hypes up every f*cking tragedy because Americans lap that sh*t up, doesn't matter what skin color.

When it comes to missing persons, name one poc that garnered national news for days or weeks in the last 40 years.

The media is complicit in pushing this.

"POC don't sell outrage for missing persons. There's too many of them kidnapped, killed and trafficked. Anyone got a white girl we can showcase so we can get our ratings higher?"

These guys do a great job explaining missing white woman syndrome in case anyone wants a more detailed history.

Ask them to explain why 99.999 percent of missing white women get no coverage.

Its easy to see why Gabby is getting coverage. They chronicled their entire trip online, there’s a very sinister seeming villain, a very pretty and engaging victim, body cam police footage from an encounter with police after she was abused, and a manhunt for the villain. If none of that were true, she’d get no coverage either. How much coverage are the two women who were missing and found murdered a week prior to Gabby in the same city the cops pulled them over in getting? Exactly. None.

Nah you are digging too hard at making this racial. You go the combo of: hot chick who looks young enough to be a teenager, youtuber with youtuber friends who are going to push the story, and incompetent Florida shit which is always ratings gold.

I'M not trying to make it racial but the news DOES have an M.O. when it comes to this. It's their trend.

Thousands of young people of color are missing every year and none of them get highlighted in national media for days and weeks at a time.

I commented on the MWGS thing ... Folks try to make it not a thing but history says different. Especially on the national stage.

Petito's case is being covered because of her extensive vlogging and because she's a very good looking person. Uggos probably disappear too but I wouldn't know because I haven't heard about it.

Its more about relative public visibility and fame than anything racial though. The reality is that if you happen to be poor, the media won't give a damn what race you are regardless of what happened to you.

As Saagar notes, interest in this case was generated organically due to the background of the victim in the vlogging community.

And quite honestly, track-record on media reaction doesn't really count for much given how much the msm has changed into an overtly politicized bloc in recent years.

I am also not American but will have a go at explaining it. My take is that the USA is huge and the distances between New York, Wyoming and Florida are pretty massive. Like travelling across Europe basically?

Then DeafTourette DeafTourette can explain to you how this is basically the same as hundreds of other cases. Cos I'd love to hear that.

The girl has a bit of a following on social media and her and her partner decide to travel around the US and do one of those "Vanlife" blogs that seem to be popular.

On July 2nd they leave New York to go on a four month tour of the US in a renovated 2012 Ford Transit.

Everything is fine until August 12th when they are stopped over a domestic violence incident in Utah.
On the police bodycam footage from that incident she is very obviously distressed and he has cuts on his face, neck and arm.
The cops decide to separate them and take him to a hotel while allowing her to keep the van.

On the 17th of August the guy, Brian (referred to as BL going forward), flies from Utah to Florida to move some of their belongings out of storage (or into storage). Gaby (referred to as GP from now) stays in a hotel in Utah.
On the 19th of August the 1st and ONLY video is uploaded to their YouTube channel.
It is believed that this was uploaded by GP while alone up in Utah.

BL spends a few days in Florida before flying back to Utah on August 24th.
On the 24th or 25th of August they resume their trip.

On August 25th GP has her final facetime call with family.
On August 26th the final post to GPs instagram is made.
On August 27th a couple of other camping YouTubers are filming themselves in Wyoming (this will be important later).
On August 30th GPs family receive a text from her that they believe is a bit strange.

On September 1st BL arrives back in Florida driving the van that was to be used for the whole trip.
GP is not with him.

On September 10th there is an incident at BLs home when GPs father shows up.
On September 11th GP is reported missing and BLs family simply give police a contact number for a lawyer.

This point seems to be around when the Internet and so the mainstream media starts to put things together.
GP is missing. BL isn't talking.

On September 17th BL is reported missing by his family. So now it's TWO missing persons.

On September 18th the YouTubers mentioned previously are contacted by someone asking if they were in the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming around the 25 to 30th of August. They were. Footage from their dashcam shows that they drove past the white van parked by the side of the road in the evening of the 27th.
On September 19th the body of GP is found in close proximity to where the van was filmed about 3 weeks earlier. In Wyoming.
Some lady on TikTok claims that herself and her partner picked BL up as he was hitchhiking around the area where the van was filmed and body found.

Police are still trying to find BL in Florida.
On September 21st GP is confirmed as the victim of a homicide.
On September 23rd a warrant is issued for the arrest of BL as he has used GPs debit card between Aug 30 and Sept 1 to withdraw at least 1 thousand bucks.

As of now nobody seems to know where BL is but there are loads of small reports of sightings of BL after the 27th and sightings of the couple beforehand which is why people are interested in putting together some kind of timeline.

Now. You and DeafTourette DeafTourette are seriously going to tell me this is just the same as hundreds of other missing person cases? Really? I guess you chaps must study a lot of missing person cases cos this all seems really weird and complex to me with a ton of unanswered questions like where the hell is BL and what the hell happened between August 12th and September 1st and did his family cover for him when he came home without her.

People really trying to put a race related spin on this? OK. Sure, it's probably just the same as 100s of other missing person cases, right?

Wasn't the Elisa Lam case a pretty well covered thing at the time?
There was obviously Hei Min Lee too.

Christopher Dansby and Shane Walker might be outside your 40 years range but they had an episode about them on Netflix very recently.

There are more I am sure but that's enough for you to admit that you're wrong here?

So its conformed her fiance is the killer or is just speculation..?
It's still speculation but almost certain.

Her family gets a weird text from her on August 30th where she refers to her Grandfather by name which they claim is odd.
There is highway (toll booth?) footage of him arriving in Florida with the van on September 1st.
Her body is found 18 days later in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming with the reason being homicide.

That would be one ridiculously long drive from Wyoming down to Florida, almost 40 hours, and if he got there on September 1st then there isn't really a window for her to be the one sending that text. Unless he abandoned her out there and somehow someone else killed her.

More than likely he was the one that texted her family using her phone and withdrew money using her card after she was already gone.

definitely not a regular missing person's case.

The person we all suspected came home without the missing person(guess who did it!).
We all had a gut feeling and we were right.
The missing person's own mother reported her missing like more than a week later as he just stood around his parent place? Going somewhere together with them in a camper?(why isnt he looking for her!!).
Every new information, led to the dude looking guilty as hell , and the news getting stranger and stranger.

His family hires an attorney to then say nothing to help Gabby from being found?!?!??!?! (like 3rd huge red flag)

Every step we are more drawn to it
because we FUCKING KNEW IT, and we all got smacked by seeing the sad, slow side of due process

If anything else its a a money/ privilege thing of having a lawyer that separate this from other "missing cases" that usually have cold leads.. This is more like a murder case!
Money and lawyer privilege was used to slow things down and help this guy avoid capture and prosecution
I believe this case getting attention has nothing to do with their color. Sure you can imply it, but there were just so many WTFs about this case in the first place.Brian It was a murder case that was concealed as a missing persons case to buy time.

His family just said he went off to without his wallet and phone. His family looks guilt as hell.

I believe as many others do (again, because we all knew he was the killer as soon as he came home without her)
His family is not worried their son is going to off himself at all, they casually picked up his car from the swamp after seeing him off to it without phone and wallet(WTF).
They're not crying and looking for his body out there. Theyre now seen by most people like me as accomplices, its not fact, but again from how this has been going, very plausible.

The family has been buying time with lawyer, misdirection of this swamp, and helping their son escape as they went camping together right around the time his fiance was reported missing .
That's why this case is getting alot of attention.

I really don't understand why so many people in the media and on social media are trying to paint this story with a racial aspect.

This could have been an Asian couple, Indian couple, Hispanic couple, etc etc and it would have gotten the same amount of national attention if the circumstances were the same. The girl having relatable social media dreams, the boyfriends obviously suspicious and erratic behavior, and then all of a sudden he disappears just before they find her body and now nobody can find him?

That kind of story draws attention regardless of skin color or background. And I'm not saying that you could not make the case that some stories are given preferential treatment on a racial basis, but trying to throw a racial factor on this particular story feels like trying to inject divisiveness into a story that everyone should be able to agree on.
Well said.

Rest in Power, Gabby.

Yes. That's what I think. I thought that nobody has ever murdered someone before and then hid.

Wow.

Don't know why I bothered engaging at all to be honest.

There's only nothing extraordinary about it in your mind because you are boiling the entire situation down to "someone got murdered and the murderer hid from the police" and ignoring every other aspect.

I wasn't exactly trying to convince you because basically I thought once things were laid out it would be pretty obvious that this is very much an unusual case. Even the volume of footage available to the public is quite unusual. The bodycam from the 12th. The dashcam from the 27th. Apparently all cases have that much media out there. The bodycam footage alone is something like an hour and 20 minutes.

I engaged only because I thought maybe you genuinely did know anything about the situation.
