Have you guys seen the story of Gabby Petito? A vlogger who was missing and then found dead?

Nothing out of the ordinary?

What????
I'm surprised by how many people genuinely think that and a bit confused that they want to doggedly stick to that narrative.

Might just be due to living outside the US but this story seems completely crazy to us over here. So maybe it's a location thing?

Is this just a pretty normal thing in the USA?

Couple goes camping and the guy comes home for a few days to move belongings out of storage, then travels back across the country to rejoin the camping trip. Then comes back into Florida a week later in the van but without his partner. Then lays low for 2 weeks, then is reported missing by his parents 2 days before his partners body is found, then there is a massive manhunt in alligator infested swamps for days. That's before the social media and vanlife and bodycam and dashcam stuff comes into it.

Just a normal time in America? I think it probably isn't but many seem convinced that it is.

They were vanlife vagabonds, their normal everyday existance was unusal, so adding more unusual to the pile doesn’t really draw much attention. No one really knows what behavior to expect out of them. Do places outside the US not have seemingly harmless wackadoos who are given a wide berth on weird shit?

What?!

I am also not American but will have a go at explaining it. My take is that the USA is huge and the distances between New York, Wyoming and Florida are pretty massive. Like travelling across Europe basically?

Then DeafTourette DeafTourette can explain to you how this is basically the same as hundreds of other cases. Cos I'd love to hear that.

The girl has a bit of a following on social media and her and her partner decide to travel around the US and do one of those "Vanlife" blogs that seem to be popular.

On July 2nd they leave New York to go on a four month tour of the US in a renovated 2012 Ford Transit.

Everything is fine until August 12th when they are stopped over a domestic violence incident in Utah.
On the police bodycam footage from that incident she is very obviously distressed and he has cuts on his face, neck and arm.
The cops decide to separate them and take him to a hotel while allowing her to keep the van.

On the 17th of August the guy, Brian (referred to as BL going forward), flies from Utah to Florida to move some of their belongings out of storage (or into storage). Gaby (referred to as GP from now) stays in a hotel in Utah.
On the 19th of August the 1st and ONLY video is uploaded to their YouTube channel.
It is believed that this was uploaded by GP while alone up in Utah.

BL spends a few days in Florida before flying back to Utah on August 24th.
On the 24th or 25th of August they resume their trip.

On August 25th GP has her final facetime call with family.
On August 26th the final post to GPs instagram is made.
On August 27th a couple of other camping YouTubers are filming themselves in Wyoming (this will be important later).
On August 30th GPs family receive a text from her that they believe is a bit strange.

On September 1st BL arrives back in Florida driving the van that was to be used for the whole trip.
GP is not with him.

On September 10th there is an incident at BLs home when GPs father shows up.
On September 11th GP is reported missing and BLs family simply give police a contact number for a lawyer.

This point seems to be around when the Internet and so the mainstream media starts to put things together.
GP is missing. BL isn't talking.

On September 17th BL is reported missing by his family. So now it's TWO missing persons.

On September 18th the YouTubers mentioned previously are contacted by someone asking if they were in the Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming around the 25 to 30th of August. They were. Footage from their dashcam shows that they drove past the white van parked by the side of the road in the evening of the 27th.
On September 19th the body of GP is found in close proximity to where the van was filmed about 3 weeks earlier. In Wyoming.
Some lady on TikTok claims that herself and her partner picked BL up as he was hitchhiking around the area where the van was filmed and body found.

Police are still trying to find BL in Florida.
On September 21st GP is confirmed as the victim of a homicide.
On September 23rd a warrant is issued for the arrest of BL as he has used GPs debit card between Aug 30 and Sept 1 to withdraw at least 1 thousand bucks.

As of now nobody seems to know where BL is but there are loads of small reports of sightings of BL after the 27th and sightings of the couple beforehand which is why people are interested in putting together some kind of timeline.

Now. You and DeafTourette DeafTourette are seriously going to tell me this is just the same as hundreds of other missing person cases? Really? I guess you chaps must study a lot of missing person cases cos this all seems really weird and complex to me with a ton of unanswered questions like where the hell is BL and what the hell happened between August 12th and September 1st and did his family cover for him when he came home without her.

People really trying to put a race related spin on this? OK. Sure, it's probably just the same as 100s of other missing person cases, right?

Homie. That was a lot of words when you could've just regurgitated "missing white woman syndrome" like so many others.

It's still speculation but almost certain.

Her family gets a weird text from her on August 30th where she refers to her Grandfather by name which they claim is odd.
There is highway (toll booth?) footage of him arriving in Florida with the van on September 1st.
Her body is found 18 days later in Grand Teton National Park in Wyoming with the reason being homicide.

That would be one ridiculously long drive from Wyoming down to Florida, almost 40 hours, and if he got there on September 1st then there isn't really a window for her to be the one sending that text. Unless he abandoned her out there and somehow someone else killed her.

More than likely he was the one that texted her family using her phone and withdrew money using her card after she was already gone.
If that is the case It seems his parents cover it , the only way I can understantd thier behavior is that he confesed he killed her and that in Florida that means dead penalty...so they and their attorney told him to leave and hide.

The opposite - don’t report on it, especially since it’s nothing out of the ordinary, the girl just happens to be cute, white, and a blogger. This shouldn’t be news to begin with.
I don't think the fact she is white or a blogger makes a fucking difference. I believe the fact she's cute is what is selling this story.

Arrest warrant out for Brian Laundrie. They have search teams looking for him in the woods/bogs/swamps/whatever in Florida.

New witness says they were fighting at a restaurant, that Brian was shouting and aggressive with not only Gabby but their waitress, the hostess, and the manager.

Motherfucker! :messenger_pensive:

Yeah I do not get the extensive manhunt. Maybe if the guy was a threat to other people.

They should be. A likely murderer on the loose is a threat to everyone. They can and should search as far and wide as they can within reason.

When it comes to missing persons, name one poc that garnered national news for days or weeks in the last 40 years.

The media is complicit in pushing this.

"POC don't sell outrage for missing persons. There's too many of them kidnapped, killed and trafficked. Anyone got a white girl we can showcase so we can get our ratings higher?"
At the end of 2019 ufc fighter walt harris daughter was found missing and dana white, ufc and a ton of fighters were making posts to try and help search for her but she ended up being found dead it was very sad everyone into mma knew about this

definitely not a regular missing person's case.

The person we all suspected came home without the missing person(guess who did it!).
We all had a gut feeling and we were right.
The missing person's own mother reported her missing like more than a week later as he just stood around his parent place? Going somewhere together with them in a camper?(why isnt he looking for her!!).
Every new information, led to the dude looking guilty as hell , and the news getting stranger and stranger.

His family hires an attorney to then say nothing to help Gabby from being found?!?!??!?! (like 3rd huge red flag)

Every step we are more drawn to it
because we FUCKING KNEW IT, and we all got smacked by seeing the sad, slow side of due process

If anything else its a a money/ privilege thing of having a lawyer that separate this from other "missing cases" that usually have cold leads.. This is more like a murder case!
Money and lawyer privilege was used to slow things down and help this guy avoid capture and prosecution
I believe this case getting attention has nothing to do with their color. Sure you can imply it, but there were just so many WTFs about this case in the first place.Brian It was a murder case that was concealed as a missing persons case to buy time.

His family just said he went off to without his wallet and phone. His family looks guilt as hell.

I believe as many others do (again, because we all knew he was the killer as soon as he came home without her)
His family is not worried their son is going to off himself at all, they casually picked up his car from the swamp after seeing him off to it without phone and wallet(WTF).
They're not crying and looking for his body out there. Theyre now seen by most people like me as accomplices, its not fact, but again from how this has been going, very plausible.

Different perspective on the police and due process:

I believe they have taken the approach they have very intentionally. Looks guilty and is obviously guilty just look at him don't equal grounds to arrest. Of course, he has been the lead suspect from the very beginning, but by keeping him only as a person of interest they had a greater opportunity to keep him from doing exactly what he has done, which is disappear. You have to understand that there was no legal means of placing him on a form of probation just by being a person of interest. He had vanished before there was even evidence of a crime (ie. body found, homicide suspected).

Now that BL is no where to be found, the new best course of action is to proceed as though they still aren't publicly considering him a murder suspect. Yes, even though it's plain as day, a dumber suspect might be lulled into thinking that they don't yet have sufficient means to arrest him for murder. Therefore, by continuing on this track they may still convince him to come out of hiding.

Then there's the arrest warrant for illegal use of a bank card. That's just a convenient excuse to go ahead and arrest him but not on charges of murder. I suspect that if they do apprehend him, they will charge him with the bank crime and then shortly thereafter we'll hear of murder charges. I kind of have a feeling that they are keeping a lid on the actual evidence they've gathered. They were keeping a lid on the details about where the body was suspected and later found before the public was given the details. They stayed about a day to a day and a half ahead of the public news surrounding the investigation. By now, they probably have a probable method of homicide and just aren't divulging it until they have BL in custody.

This idea that due process is slow and sad is a dangerous mindset that I would urge you to reconsider. It is better for 1 out of 10 guilty people to go free than for even one innocent person to face conviction for a crime they didn't commit.

I understand why the media have acted like vultures, on this story. It has all the marketing boxes checked.

More importantly: If you're in a relationship where there is abuse... LEAVE. The relationship is OVER. Period.

It usually stays abusive and or gets worse. I'm sick and tired of hearing about the situations where people just don't learn to leave each other.

Brian had all the chances in the world to end the relationship, but he chose to give into his rage. Execution. No sympathy from me.

Didn't really care much about this case until the other day when I was looking at twitter while taking a dump I noticed that Dog the bounty hunter was trending.

Dog being involved is weird is hell and I'm all about it. If that dude somehow finds laundrie before the the FBI, I will probably piss my pants from laughing.

The system can be slow.
I know first hand how slow it can be.

My point wasnt really about the due process really, it was me trying differentiate this case against people saying it got big due to the color of her skin.
People making it about the color of her skin seemed racist to me

Dont get me wrong
He is only a suspect still, and maybe innocent, maybe even self defense(nope)
For all we know, he could be the victim here( he aint).

He gonna get that due process alright

His "strange ass actions" brought eyes onto this case,
and we are always going to think that the police should have had eyes on him from his "strange ass actions".
Now we know to hire a private investigator from the get go when things like this happens and there are credible suspects who exhibit "strange ass actions".

The really strange thing is that there were eyes on his house 24 hours when he somehow got in a car and drove to the wilderness reserve... how no one saw him is another mystery.

They probably had one car sitting there keeping tabs and they went for a food run. The second they left he got in his car and bolted.

I mean there were media and protesters. It's been a point raised a few times that it's incredible that no one saw him actually leave but the mustang ended up at the reserve. Some have even questioned if he left earlier than stated.

I even wonder if he's still in the country...

I've been following this for a while. I think he was already gone when Gabby's family reported her missing and they confronted the Laundies at the house. I think he left at that point. Even before the cops or protesters showed up. I don't think anyone ever actually saw him there after the 11th of Sept

This case is not about race...it's about the circumstances.....domestic dispute in Moab, video of the cops talking to them, a video blog of their journeys, a double murder possibly linked to them in Moab, Brian comes home without her and tells no one until about 15 days later, doesn't tell Gabby's family where she is, lawyers up, Gabby's remains are found and Brian goes AWOL, Dog The Bounty Hunter gets involved. It's a very intriguing case and has nothing to do with race. Shit like this just does not happen often with all of these breadcrumbs lying around.

As to it being a homicide? No, we've none that for weeks. The cause of death was totally unknown, though if you're enraged in an argument and just go for it in the woods with nothing else to use, I suppose bare hands around the neck will do.

If that guy actually tried to chance it in that Florida reserve, experts say he died there. No way he's been kicking it in that terrain this long. Body likely devoured. If he told his parents that to throw his parents off his scent, they'll get him eventually.

If you haven't seen this you live under a rock. Of course people are upset that black people dont get the same attention, but this story is fucking crazy. The fact he went home and didnt tell anyone and there was nothing anyone could do is crazy.

Someone caught someone that looks like him on one of their hunting cams 500 miles north of his parents in florida
Fuck off.

There are far bigger issues currently going on in the world right now than a missing vlogger.

Why this story is getting international coverage is beyond me.

I mean, the moment I heard the news, I’d guessed that the boyfriend had something to do with it. It’s always the case in situations like this. There was a case not too long ago, where a young woman named Grace Millane was killed by her sexual partner. Right from the offset, the police suspected him. And their suspicions were confirmed and he was found guilty of murder. And there was the Sarah Everard case earlier this year, where a cop was considered a person of interest from the start, and guess what? He was guilty of her rape/murder.

That said, there are the odd few cases where a completely unknown party is the suspected killer. Ian Huntley, for example, was just a janitor at his victims’ school. He even appealed for help on TV to find the killer, but the police were already suspicious at this point. There was a documentary explaining the five critical mistakes he made that led to his arrest and eventual sentencing. Same goes for Millie Fowler’s case, though the culprit in that case was a registered sex offender prior to the rape/killing.

I really hope they find the boyfriend in this case. Him dying would be bittersweet, in that justice had not been served accordingly. He deserves to be sentenced and imprisoned for life. Death is the easy way out in any case like this — any case in general, to be honest, but I’ve expressed that view in another thread. I wouldn’t be surprised if he has used his parents to cover his tracks, making them unwittingly guilty of aiding and abetting. Let’s hope it comes to an end, and soon, with the result we’re all hoping for.

There are people murdered every day in America. I guess the media is focusing a lot on this case because of her social media popularity and the bodycam footage taken when they were stopped for bad driving.

The mystery surrounding it is probably another reason for the attention, but murders in relationships are not uncommon

No trial, no testimony, no real answers. But maybe it's better this way. I hope her parents find closure and I do hope his parents as well.
If he’s dead, her parents will never get true closure as her killer has got the easy way out without giving any answers to the hundreds of questions going through their heads. They’ll die never knowing why their daughter was murdered.

^^You may be right

As an outsider, I find this more suitable.
No wasting tax dollars, not watching each of the parents suffer in court hearing his take or even seeing his face, they just buried their daughter
no rehashing of the pain and sharing it with the media more than they already have to.
No of us have to guess much on what happened after the police footage.

High probability that couple most likely fought again as they wigged out, due to relationship/mental health issues from being with each other in some toxic way.
He got upset enough to lose control of himself , maybe even after another psychical altercation and ended up strangled her.

Apparently they found a journal, so that could provide some answers. But ultimately, the story you’ve painted probably isn’t too far from the truth.

What questions, they where caught fighting non stop and that guy was a lose bullit with his attitude.

Obviously he killed her in a rage spree.

He might have left a note, I mean - presuming he killed himself out of regret/sorrow you would hope he had just enough dignity left to leave one for the parents to explain what happened and show some remorse.

Who am I kidding, he's a coward who strangled a girl to death then ran back to his parents.. he probably just topped himself feeling like a victim of abuse as a 7 stone girl slapped him once and knocked over his latte.
