Having second thoughts about getting a PS4 during the launch

I was so sure i was getting a PS4 at launch but i'm now also in the same boat to an extent.

My problem (and it's a good problem) is PS+.

I have a huge backlog of games, at least 50+ games from PS+ alone that i still need to play. Then i have a whole host of games i want to play that i haven't gotten round to yet such as all the Uncharted games, Batman games, RDR etc. Then on top of all that, pretty much every PS4 game that has been announced is games that i would want too!

I literally can't hold all these games :(

Edit : How could i forget GTA coming out soon too!

So if you get a PS4, your backlog disappears? It adds to it! That's hours and hours of fun just waiting to be had!

Edit: Sorry, double post.

I decided to wait until at least March 2014 to buy it, i have a gaming PC where i play most of the multiplatform titles and the first reason to buy a PS4 for me it´s Infamous which isn´t a launch title. So that was an easy choice for me.

The only reason that would made me buy it it´s the economy in my country, quite unstable lately lol.

Im getting a launch ps4.

Im in a situation where my PC is showing its age, plus my desk/chair could use replacing. Ive never owned an HDTV, still rocking a 21inch tube tv. Ill be buying a new TV for GTA5, then a ps4.

Excited to become predominately a console gamer again.

Exactly! Plus Beyond is coming soon too and a whole host of other great PS3 games!

Then even if i do hold off buying a PS4 i'll have a massive backlog on there too!

Damn.

I think a big issue is that Sony just isn't letting enough PS4 info out. It seems like we know way more about how the XB1 and XBL operates than the PS4 and PSN.

It's getting kind of annoying honestly. The PS4 was revealed way before the XB1, yet we know less about it.

I think we know a lot about it but they are holding info for the big shows.

Any drought will be nothing compared to what I suffered with wiiU. And I can't buy any Multiplatform games like watch dogs on PS3 knowing they are also on PS4.

Basically I want that new tech, plus move all my new gaming to PS4, and PS3 will fill in the drought nicely thanks

I'm pretty lucky as far as that goes since I work my forty hours from Friday-Sunday, leaving me with four days a week to dick around. I cleared up most of my backlog and I'm ready for my PS4 (although there are still a good number of PS3 games I'm looking forward to).

i was am still excited before the ps4 was announced. Then again i game more on playstation then my 360 anyways. Took me a couple of years before i bought a 360 anyways. will do the same for the xbone.

YOOGE DERPY PARAGRAPH INC...

Hopefully Gamescom delivers a compelling new launch title or very soon after launch title because although I have it pre-ordered I have nothing to play on it. The multi-platform games will run better on PS4 than on my PC but that's not enough to buy a PS4. Driveclub looks boring, Knack look simple, Killzone looks good but something about it is not hooking me. I've never played the series so maybe veterans of it can appreciate it more. So what exactly am I getting it day one for? The only game I'm really interested in for launch from these consoles is Killer Instinct and maybe Dead Rising 3 if they add some actual color to the game, but the X1 is 500 bucks and, frankly, I want a PS4 more due to it being more powerful, but if the game(s) I want are on X1 then why am I getting PS4 other than hoping for good future games. KI, Black Tusk's game, Halo, Titanfall, Sunset Overdrive, these look pretty good to me and better than what PS4 has shown (E: just remembered Infamous, but that's one game). Maybe The Order will blow our socks off at Gamescom? Naughty Dog and Santa Monica games feel like very far off. So maybe it's better for me to get X1 now and then PS4 next Christmas (originally my plan is PS4 now, X1 next Christmas). Then again X1 is 500 bucks and I'm not happy with MS' decision-making.

More excited about Secret Ponchos than most of those launch titles.

Outlast looks great too. Super scary and atmospheric. Fact that these games are free is just a good dollop of fresh sweet cream atop a nicely baked cake.

But yea I think Killzone SF and DriveClub will review well. The former better than the latter. Wouldn't be at all surprised if Killzone is the best shooter out this fall. Certainly got creative leeway and diversity on its side among the sea of present day military shooters.

Part of the reason I feel like this is while a lot of people are probably looking forward to certain upgraded versions of current gen games, like Watch Dogs, Battlefield 4, Call of Duty Ghosts...and some of the exclusives like Killzone, Infamous Second Son, and Knack...I gotta admit, none of these are jumping out at me at all beyond the feeling that "Yeah...I'd like to play them sometime" but as far as being a huge fan...that feeling is not really there for me. I'm not a huge fan of any of those titles, and I feel like I'm more excited about PS3 titles coming this year then any PS4 title announced yet.

I hear you. The main things I'm looking forward to are upgraded versions of AC IV & Watch Dogs, which would probably be fine on the systems I already have.

Even I admit on some level this seems silly...hell, I was the kind of person who was excited enough to buy a Wii U, and a PS Vita on day one both times, so it probably sounds stupid to a lot of people why I would be okay with getting those at launch, but am second guessing a PS4.

Not at all. I seriously doubt there will be anything as good as NSMBU or as interesting as ZombiU there. I'm not betting on having more fun the first few months with my PS4 than I did with my U. But I have faith in its long term future. And hopefully TGS has some nice surprises in store.

All three.

img_51b69053b2ed0.jpg

I'm fairly certain it was drive club day one plus one extra indie title per month with those being the first two

I cancelled my PS4 pre-order. I'll get one but not for a year or so. The WiiU really burned me and I'm not going to experience that again.

you are comparing the PS4 to the Wii U?!?!?! Seriously?!?!?

OP, do what feels right to you.. If you don't wan't to buy one, don't. Personally, I'm want the new hardware. Can't wait for The Division, Destiny, FIFA/PES, and maybe BF4 on next gen hardware.

I'm thinking to buy Wii U instead. There are some games I would like to play. PS4 at the moment doesn't have japanese games I would like to try. Of course Sony can announce some nice games on Gamescom and TGS, but I don't think they will be available this year.

The lack of Japanese content for PS4/Bone, in addition to a roster that is almost entirely current gen (and mediocre imo) games with slightly nicer graphics, really kills any enthusiasm I might otherwise have for new hardware.

I'm happy with Wii U for the time being.

I'm sure there are many people who haven't been through a console launch before, I have to smile when some say there's nothing to play (on both consoles). For me, there's an overwhelming choice of titles, I would be quite content to pick up 5-10 launch titles, that includes cross-gen titles, as there's no chance I'm playing yet another Battlefield, FIFA etc. on last-gen hardware.

I understand some people want a killer app, but when you look at yearly releases, you may get a handful of those per year, even less if your interested in a specific genre. To me, Killzone, Infamous, Forza etc., those are AAA titles, and exclusives to boot, rarely do consoles launch with such quality, it's usually generic racers, shooters and puzzle games.

Personally, I can spend a good couple of weeks getting familiar with the hardware, setting it up just to my liking, browsing the store, picking titles & apps etc. I want to invest in the hardware that will be my go to console for the next 5-10 years, I'm not putting another penny into current-gen with no backwards compatibility.

There's really no point to buying a console in the first 2 years unless you're just dying to go talk about playing them on message boards. :P

Erm TGS?

Beating BF3.5? I think not.
For some reason KZSF doesn't catch my attention at all.

I did some extra freelance work last month, and right now I've got a sealed envelope with $550 cash money in my sock drawer. I've got a PS4 ordered on Amazon.

In my 25 years of gaming, I've never gotten a system at launch, and usually it's been because of money. Since I've got that base covered, I'll go ahead.

Still, even though I've got the system preordered, I don't have any games preordered. I'll probably go with AC4 and Battlefield 4.

I can see the possibility of having regret afterwards. It's hard to say. Will be cool to have it on day one, though.

Buying a system at launch is not practical.

It is a blast though. New system, new controller, new OS and new games that look better.

What's fun about waiting a year?

I can't wait for new consoles. That said, there is plenty this holiday to sate people's appetites this holiday.

Still, I want to be there on day one to explore and discover. My most anticipated games won't be until 2014, but knowing I have a system garauntee to be there when those games arrive is more than enough reason for me to get one up front.

Agreed on this too.

Absolutely. KZ2 is still one of the highest rated shooters of this gen. It's just that KZ3 flopped somewhat, but KZ SF looks more ambitious in every way. It's actually going more open ended this time around, with a lot more mission and tactical diversity. That's the opposite of BF4 and COD Ghosts which look as linear as they ever have.

Multiplayer remains to be seen.

A lot of people, I'm not saying you, will refuse to recognize KZSF regardless of its quality because of its name and pedigree alone. I keep hearing they've made big changes (more open environments reminiscent of something like Halo), but a lot people won't even give it a chance.

I'll actually be investing in a PS3 this Fall, seems like the best platform to play GTAV on and i've a few exclusives I missed that i'd like to go back and play. Last of Us mainly.

I got Playstation, PS2, and PS3, PS Vita, Nintendo, SNES, N64, Gamecube, Genesis, and Dreamcast at launch. I got XBOX and XBOX 360 slightly after launch. (other consoles at various points after launch.

While it wasn't practical, I never had buyers remorse(except for the Vita).

Console launches are a ton of fun. If you can afford it, and generally are just happy to have the thing, I say go for it. In this case, it's doubtful that the price will drop within a year.. so.. why wait if you're interested.

If you have a better or different gaming option like PC, or just aren't sure that you're really wanting to buy the system for reasons other than hype, I would say, wait until you're sure what you want and then decide.

Watch from here. This shit blows my mind. When he's looking all around the city after he's landed, walking around from the platform, this is the stuff sci-fi dreams are made of. BF4 and COD will not have anything as otherworldly or bold as this.

It's like a "next gen, we have arrived" moment.

Never buy a console at launch.

1. Software selection is always terrible
2. Possible hardware defects
3. Later pricedrops/bundles will be much better value
In 30 years plus of gaming, my strongest and happiest memories, are buying consoles at launch, there's nothing like it.

Discussing your new console, games etc., is part of the appeal, and as with all aspects of gaming, looking forward to forthcoming title is part of the experience.

As I mentioned in my other post too, having experienced many launches, I don't believe the "software selection is always terrible" applies to next-gen, to me, it resembles what we got on earlier consoles a year or two after launch.

For SP I can see KZ being better, but this is coming from someone that could not bring himself to play the SP for BF3. As for MP which is where the real legs of the BF franchise are, there is no contest.

I loved the MP in KZ2 but there was nothing stand out about the SP for KZ2 or the entirety of KZ3 (which was actually pretty disappointing).

You know when I think about it, the most fun I had playing a SP FPS on the PS3 was Resistance FOM.

I'm going digital this gen, so I'm looking forward to sampling all the demos for the first few weeks, then making my purchasing decisions.

Right now, I wouldn't even consider, for example, Need For Speed, but despite the lack of buzz on sites like this, it's previewed very well, I'm looking forward to trying it myself. Then we have all the FTP and indie titles, my times going to be filled sampling games I'd have never played previously if it was a £40-£50 disc purchase.

I'm hoping to be surprised and find some gems.

As cool as those gifs are they are still probably train tracks. The open environment we've seen is the forest area and it doesn't look as good as this, which could be due to art style idk.

I already have the ambulance siren, so the next logical step would be the PS4.

The cityscape in KZ:SF looks how i imagine Coruscant in the Star Wars universe. I hope at Gamescom we get to see the otherside of the wall. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for a BladeRunner / Dread 3D type environment.

KZ:SF is at the top of my list for launch day titles.

I'm considering cancelling mine. I just can't seem to get into games lately, and, right now, I struggle to justify the purchase based on my current disposition toward games.
