Over many years of gaming and many console launches, I've learned one simple rule:
Always wait a year.
Whilst I tend to agree, I find it really odd that ND (dev of the generation IMHO) don't have a launch title - even if it's the SP DLC for LoU.
Also MM - they showed something that could be nearer ready than folk think.
Sony have done a great job this release. The reveal (8GB GDDR5 reveal), then E3 (£350/$400 reveal), then you have Gamescon and finally TGS...why not have big reveals at each?
Having something day one feels super exciting - I love it.
XBONE and PS4 day one!
I could have gotten a PS4 and Xbox One from work (with my tasty 20% discount too) but i'm going to leave it for a while, let them iron out the kinks and wait for more games to come out. I also have games i want to play on the PS3 and 360 first too, i really am in no rush for a new console at the moment.
I rushed into getting the PS3 and 360 and ended up only playing a handful of games for the first year.
As a rule of thumb, I go by: Never buy launch anything. You're going to get a better machine later, at a better price, that will have better supply, and a larger software library.
Tired of current gen. I'm in day one.

Could just get a computer.
OR I could get both systems for less than what I would pay for a gaming rig.
I preordered the xbox One and am sticking to it, love the Launch games and kinect Features.
All these next gen systems have convinced me to do is buy a capable PC.
There's a problem when 95% of titles that come out on consoles will also be on PC.
Over many years of gaming and many console launches, I've learned one simple rule:
Always wait a year.
It's very simple. There are far more great games available now than I could hope to complete in the next year and a half. And that's disregarding the full slate of new games still coming for current gen consoles. Besides, the launch titles for the new consoles will be few in number and play it safe in terms of design and tech. Not as simple as it sounds
Exactly. Only a few inside dev studios were able to get started early on next gen titles. Everyone else just got underway over the last six months. We won't start to see the fruit of their labor until holiday 2014 or early 2015. That's when the truly exceptional stuff starts to hit. And by then, the consoles' quirks have emerged, prices come down, and deals start happening.. The better games always come out in the following holiday season. Everyone should know this by now.
People expect a price drop from 399 in a year?

It also makes waiting much easier when you have a new gaming PC.

Absolutely no reason to buy a console at launch other than to stand in line overnight to tell your friends "I got one."
"Pricing" is no longer about just the hardware purchase anymore. There are subscriptions, services, online features, etc. that all cost money on top of the hardware. So, yeah, things could look very different in terms of total cost by late 2014.People expect a price drop from 399 in a year?

No way that's happening.
Okay, I just don't expect a price that's already perceived as reasonable, or PS+ to drop anything that quickly."Pricing" is no longer about just the hardware purchase anymore. Sure, the hype gets to me. I'm excited. But I also have at least some self control. I've been at this for a long time (console gaming since the '70s). Things will look very different to you when you reach my age, junior. The thing is we say this but the hype gets to you. A big reason for me not getting one is cause I'm going Uni. If I wasn't and had the cash, I would be there day one.
It happens to us all...Dad?

In what world?
Without extrapolation your rule contains no merit.Over many years of gaming and many console launches, I've learned one simple rule:
