You'll probably find that pyroblast is a poor choice for even mech mage I think. Most decks runs healing and the ones that don't aim to kill you before pyroblast is ever useful.

I do remember when pyroblast was quite good, but that was before it was nerfed to 10 mana from 8.

I'll likely switch to Antonidas once I've got him but it's already better than relying on only the spell staples.

Hey guys, I'm new to hearthstone and need some buddies. Please add me my Battle.net ID is Rubikhan1374

Also, I've been watching streams like Kripp, Day9, and ATLC, but I'm still pretty bad. Recent Arena went 3/3 with a pretty good paladin deck. Any tips for someone who wants to spend the bare minimum amount of money? (Preferably no money at all, I like the challenge)

Buy naxx with money and the first wing of BrM with 700 gold. Other than that if you can consistently get 3 wins in arena spend all your gold on that since the random pack will always help you since you're new and using arena decks will be more fun that playing online and facing a bunch of meta net decks

This is my current Hunter deck, cobbled together. Any advice on what I should go for next? The Owl I assume? I've been playing for a while but unfortunately spent all my coins on the adventures so I don't really have any cards to craft so it's going to be a slow process. Just buying Classic packs with quest gold.

It's a budget finisher, it's not that bad if you play yolo and just go face from turn 6-7. It's better than no finisher or a lot of times better than Rag even. The advantage to it is that people usually don't expect it. Oh they played both fireballs, I'm not dead to frostbolt so I don't need to play healbot this turn, things like that happen a lot.

Just got a Pyroblast so now I finally have a finisher for my Mech Mage. The rush to 10 health on turn 10 once you've drawn the card is pretty fun.

I got pyroblast early on in my hearthstone career and thought it would make Mech Mage a killer class. However, I soon realised that if you mech Mage goes well then you shouldn't even get to turn 10 and it's easier to have something with better synergy.

GAF! I finally broke that personal wall of rank 9!

I made a slight change to my deck that helped me. It looks shitty on paper, but it works in practice due to the fact that games were ending so fast some shit didn't matter.

Secrets
Mad Scientist*
Wolf Rider
Owl*

Both of these would be good cause they are neutral cards and could work with other classes.

Is anyone else having problems with connection issues in the Android version? I just installed Hearthstone on my new Moto X, and the connection keeps dropping in and out every time I play a game. Doesn't happen on my PC or iPad.

So I'm not a top tier player so I'm probably wrong.

That being said I think I've determined Mage's problem. It's not RNG. That's just the class + Hearthstone in general. Thinks like unstable portal or who your Blastmage hits with its battlecry is just how it's gonna be.

The key that fucks Mage is purely card draw.

My first advice is to not play mage right now, the meta is minion heavy, you can't possibly remove them all. You can't draw well with mage, your deck probably has a lot of RNG too which will be inconsistent, you want consistency to climb. Tempo mage style can't ever have board control, mech mage is better but if you draw bad, you can't do much. You need to play something that likely curves very well.

This x1000 unless I gimp my deck with other card draw cards.

I mean, it obviously depends on the deck, but I think Arcane Intellect is a strong card (compare it to the shitty Shaman draw 2 cards card) and Azure Drakes synergyze pretty well with most Mage decks.

I think the only Mage deck that ever runs out of steam/into card draw problems is Mech Mage and that's because it depends on ending things quickly with an overwhelming board.

That said, I can't think of a really strong Mage deck in the current meta. Freeze Mage and Tempo Mage are both ok and have been for a long time, but they're not top tier or anything.

Have played a few games my crappy galaxy s3 and had not had any connection problems yet.

Mage has like 5 great decks. Mech Mage, Tempo Mage, Casino Mage, Freeze Mage, and Echo Giant Mage to just name the big ones.

Mage also has some great and unique ways to draw cards like Duplicate a secret that copies a minion that dies is a 3 mana draw 2 cards and Echo which copies all of your minions in play. They have the standard vanilla card draw in Arcane Intellect which combos with many of their minions. They also have great synergy with one of the best neutral card draws Azure Drake.

It's true that there's no continuous/downright broken card draw engine for Mage like Battle Rage for Patron, Northshire for Priest or Divine Favour for Christmas Tree Paladin.

Cancer paladin spams the board and uses Divine Favor with one other card in hand. Too bad I had Counter Spell. Feels so good.

Arcane Intellect only gives you 2 cards for 3 mana. Only reason it doesn't blow is if you combo it cause its a spell. It also takes up 2 deck slots when everyone is fucking going aggro and you need fucking minions.

Obviously it's better than the Shaman card, but Shaman been bottom tier for like an eternity now with everything.

It's true that there's no continuous/downright broken card draw engine for Mage like Battle Rage for Patron, Northshire for Priest or Divine Favour for Christmas Tree Paladin.

This plus Lock which has it built in with the hero power, and face hunter is what I face in like 95% of my games.

Palidin and Warrior ALWAYS out draw me unless by sure dumb luck I get the base draw of the year.

Mage does have a lot of ways to generate cards, drawing is bad but you can play mad scientist, almost every mage deck has mad scientist because you need it, but if you don't open with MS you are probably in trouble. Mage secrets are for tempo gain to compensate for card draw, effigy and mirror, which sometimes work amazingly, sometimes horribly and lose you the game. Quite a bit of randomness is involved in all of it, it's no where near consistent as paladin draws or battle rage or sprint prep. Then there is echo, which only makes sense in really slow decks but it's great. If it was the other way, the class probably was too strong.

You always prefer to draw what's in your deck rather than something random but there still ways to deal with it, not every class is supposed to play the same. Just imagine if mech mage had divine favor, it would be completely broken. Mage comes and goes, it might not very good right now to play anything but mech mage but there is a lot of variety in the class. It's quite healthy. It's no rogue...

Speaking of mechs and divine favor, saw a mech paladin with Fel Reavers, it was quite interesting. I'm not sure how good it really is, it was quite strong in that match.

huh, that's a new daily quest: "Win 5 Tavern Brawls"

I've been lucky with quests lately. The week I decide I'm going to stop buying packs whenever I get 100 gold and save up I get a total dominance and a mage dominance quest :D

I'm hoping to get a decent gold base so I can play Arena more consistently.

Eh, at least Paladin has one competitive deck now. Can't really get that mad.
Aggro Paladin was a top tier deck before TGT came out if you wanted to grind the ladder. Actually took way more skill to play too.

Heh, I hit a wall at rank 13 with my temp mage deck and dropped all the way to 15 :|

Maybe I should just refine my patron deck and use that for a bit since I can't seem to find a good use for my recently pulled Aviana, don't have a few of the cards necessary for ramp

Keep at it, i was in your position many times and eventually i climbed my way back to rank 5 and below, once i went to rank 7 from rank 3 or something like that. Also if you don't mind could you post your deck? I'm curious to see what you play.

You should curve out a bit better. For example, you only have a single 4 mana minion. Part of the tempo mage's game plan is to get a minion to stick early on and use your cheap removal to trade up against their bigger stuff. It is probably hard to do that if you don't have the minions to get on the board early consistently.
