This is promising.

How is windows for workflow stuff? I haven't used it in a while, but I use hot corners a lot and the different desktop spaces on my MBP.

Essentially the same. Hot corners are basically trackpad gestures for me now. Desktop peek is at the bottom right of the screen. Windows has really come a long way to match some of those system features OS has had for awhile.

These prices are batshit insane. Apple, publicly apologize and change these prices, or you can kiss your business goodbye!

Is there any good way to edit my Lightroom photos/library (adding about 1,000 photos a month) between both a Mac and windows system?

What do you mean exactly? I installed Lightroom on my win 10 PC, used a flash drive to copy all the Lightroom library files from mac to PC and it worked. If you mean syncing..sorry there is no easy solution afaik

Or you get yourself a NAS

Ah ok, honestly my MBP lasted so long I honestly don't mind paying the money.

I am typing right now on my main computer, my 2008 Macbook 13" Unibody. It's been a really wonderful computer which I've used every single day for both pleasure (and work). Amazing, solid build quality that still feels great today. This year I switched out the out mechanical drive for an SSD, and the battery now only lasts an hour, but other than that, its in fine condition (just slow now).

If I were to buy one of these new MacBooks today, even at UK prices which are VERY EXPENSIVE, I still think I'd get similar value out of it that I did with this Mac.

In the end it will always come down to macOS vs. Windows for me. As much as I might ever want to get something like a Surface, I would never go back to Windows, even in its current state.

At least not for the foreseeable future. It all depends on how Apple takes macOS from here.

Maybe they should just break down and try and reconfigure macOS's UIKit into a touch capable version and work on some really neat transforming Macs. They're just afraid they'll cannibalize their iOS baby if they do that. So they don't. We can only hope they actually have some people in a secret building working on touchable Macs just in case.

No new Mac Mini. I will wait one more year for a new model to be released. After that I'm ditching Apple for a Chromebox, Linuxbox or something similar. I just surf the web, pay my bills, download movies/music etc. I don't need all them megahurtz.

I'm still using a 2012 MBA but when/if it ever dies, I'll probably move to Windows again... I rarely even turn on my personal computer nowadays except to pay bills or do my taxes anyways...

Is anyone running Ubuntu on a laptop where the hardware isn't total garbage? I've often thought about going that direction but have never been happy with the available hardware.

This might be the one time when this statement is actually true.

Once my Air packs up, my business is certainly going elsewhere. Well, not unless Apple wake the fuck up. lol.

I kinda don't wanna ask this here since it seems a bit meanspirited but I really do want to jump in on this. I got to this page but have no idea how to identify the weird numbers as that doesn't show up anywhere on my macs system report.

Also, really thinking about ditching Sky TV this winter, but I am not sure about getting the HBO content elsewhere. It's annoying that the only other option is non-legal.

Anyone have Apple TV in the UK? I can see it has iPlayer, but not much else from the UK providers :/

Is the highest end dGPU the one that was rumored or assumed to be included? Or were people assuming a better one was going to be an option?

How old is the Radeon Pro 460?

There's no question this whole announcement was a let down, but I'd give it another few announcements before getting all dramatic.

Need I remind you people about iPod socks.

Apple clearly needs a crash course in honor, shame and repentance ...

I just did a few appraisals and those values are way too low. You're better off selling the Macbook on your own and then jump on Surface during the BF deals.

You would have to share the lightroom database/library files, too. And I don't if that's a good idea, as they store file references and the like.
This is why you go NAS. Or use separate catalogs and import secondary catalogs into the main to merge.

The good news is that this will push the adoption of USB-C (including 3.1 gen 2) and hopefully greater adoption of Thunderbolt which I hope happens very soon, even if it's proprietary.

The bad news is Apple is out of their minds if they think I am going to pay 2 large for a damn laptop.

Just give me XPS13 with at least 2 USB-C/Thunderbolt ports and I buy it today.

Only dreams...

Holy mother of Christmas, those prices are absolutely bonkers. Between that and the courage thing, Apple seems to be operating off of pure hubris right now.

Sigh,

I am considering getting the Base Macbook Pro 15 2016 with Radeon 460 upgrade.

I can't make another order because I don't have enough credit on my credit card.

Overall look and layout - albums organized and presentable..

I use Google Photos and it does a decent job of making my photos look good and organises them somewhat intelligently. Auto backup from my phone is the best feature for me.

That is web based so it might not be for you.

I have used the native Windows Photos app which is surprisingly decent for doing quick edits and touch ups to images but since I don't keep my albums on my PC I don't have much to say about how it displays images. The simple timeline is good enough for my uses.

Hm I'd figure but I really don't feel like dealing with ebay and the shit that comes with it. Are there any good sites for hassle free selling?

EDIT: Just checking out ebay and the only prices I could find for the lowest end late 2013 model was around $450 with 14 hours left to bid so I'll check on how that one goes up. If its within $100 I'll probably just ship it to microsoft, hopefully I can use this credit towards refurb models.

And those NAS references work across platforms? Do you work like that and is it really seamless? What happens if you accidentally open lightroom on the two machines at once?

Anyway, from the verge hands on

The keyboard is almost identical to the Butterfly keyboard found on the tiny MacBook. That’s going to cause some people to grind their teeth, but I think it’s great and easy to type on — and I do think the keys might have sightly better travel, but don’t hold me to that. In any case, I expect that this will be a sore spot for some people, but my level of sympathy isn't as high as it ought to be, because I think this keyboard is great.

Just ordered the maxed out 13" with Touch ID / bar. Would've made the switch over to Windows once they started the paradigm shift which began with the rMB but the lack of HiDPI support is a joke.

Windows 10 seems to be off to a good start, will see if the Creatives Update changes any of their scaling options.

Now millions of other people can join me in the misery of how easy the USBC charging cable slips out of Macbook just slightly and stops charging.

MagSafe deserved better.

I can't *believe* these lazy developers keep making file sizes so damn large. Btw, how does technology work?
For all those of you recommending a NAS to share lightroom library on multiple computers/os, do you put the library file (forget what it's called) on the NAS storage, then?

If the new MacBook Pro would have had Kaby Lake, I would have bought it even though I think the price is a little ridiculous. As it stands, they expect me to pay this extreme premium price for hardware that isn't even up to date.

By references, do you mean the originals? The catalog file is cross platform.

You can and it would be the simplest way but I prefer having secondary catalogs locally for speed and mobility. Only when I'm done with it do I merge the secondary catalog back into the main one.

Lord Error

Insane For Sony
Wi-Fi Sync kind of removed the need to plug the iPhone into a Mac.
Charging of the phone is, for me, many times more convenient with MacBook than using another power adapter for the phone.

Other than that kind of hugely obvious thing, you also need to connect the phone for development. That's not such a big deal because there are cables you can get (it's a freaking $30 cable or a $20 cludgy adapter though), but still kinda funny that they go out of their way to make something like that more difficult than it needs to be. I'm sure the next phone will ship with USB-C -> Lightning cable, this is just an awkward transition moment.
