Heroes of the Storm |OT| Pretty sure that Abathur is AFK

Some guy said I shouldn't pick a tank, just before time ran out on Hero League picks. I picked Nova, and he said gg we lose or something.

We ended up winning, and I had 2nd most kills, and no deaths. gg indeed

I love it when games go swimmingly like that.

Unrelated, but this Zeratul tells me to get Apocalypse on Diablo and to use it when he void prisons an area. So he uses Void Prison, and me being the best Diablo there is, walks right into the void prison.

It's ok though I still used my apocalypse after and caught like 2 of them.

Bad void prisons are infuriating. Also bad tychus bomb / etc slides that send mobs flying everywhere, especially when you just grouped them up nicely with Johanna :(

I'm crippling myself, by not buying more characters. It seems better to have more characters when playing Hero League. I don't have enough counter picks.

Is the pathing getting worse in this game? Like I click the same spot a few times and the pathing just does some really weird shit every now and then. Stop and rotates or goes back and around an object, taking a longer path to get where I want to go...usually killing me.

Also US8 is starting to get unplayable now, it feels like I'm on ORD1. There's no winning. It's not even worth logging in to try and do a daily or goblin event.

Oh it was a great void prison, I just horribly walked into it like a moth to the flames.

It definitely helps, but I'm rank 5 and I have about.....20 champions unlocked or so? I would say before you start buying willy nilly, get 2 of each role that you really like, IE 2 Tanks/Assassins/Supports/Specialists. That's atleast 8 champions minimum, and that way you can pick any role when needed and you have a little variance. There are no real counters in this game, except archetype vs. archetype. For example, Zeratul/Nova counter really squishy comps with no escapes/cc, kaelthas fits anywhere, Muradin/Anub are really solid tanks, etc.

I have some issues with my character just stopping an no skill activating until I move. There are some body-blocking issues, and pathing around minions can be weird. I haven't noticed any map/object pathing issues though.

Tychus is soooooo goood. Been having a blast with him this week, I remember not liking him at all the last time he was free (though I think that was also the week I started playing). Definitely buying him for keepsies!

Tanks aren't necessary. Having enough damage is.

Oh you haven't seen me play Diablo. The amount of times people have initiated on me because I'm the one straggling behind my team only to get knocked into my team, or to succeed in killing me and getting stunned because lolpocalypse and then coming back in 5 seconds.

split pushing abathur is so much fun. When you know they're trying to find you, and you're using Z and B to completely out maneuver them, totally different game.

i unlocked daily quests and the first one was to play a specialist hero except they're like the most expensive ones to get

Yeah, it's the only class without a 2k hero. I'm sure I'll have some gold sooner or later. It just bugs me seeing the first quest sit there because the free rotation doesn't provide a specialist either.

Sgt Hammer is in the rotation this week. I guess you haven't unlocked all the slots yet?

Is anyone else having connection issues? I saw alur said something about server issues on the last page but I'm on the west coast which he said was still up.

Edit: Seems fine now.

For the most part the new match making seems to be working out but I just played with a level 9 or 10 Illidan that fed hard and early. He/she then proceeded to blame what they viewed as our impending loss on having an Abathur on our team...wat? I can't parse that.

How have you played that much Illidan and have that mentality? How does an illidan have no love for top hat? How? Hoooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww. How is that even a thing that's possible.

Soooo...10k gold. Kael'thas or Jaina...?

I am also leaning towards Sylvanas as well but....eh I'd rather kill stuff faster. Any recommendations?

Both are probably getting the nerf hammer soon. Jaina nukes heroes in 1v1 better than Kael and is more interesting to play imo. With Kael you wait for 16 and start nuking teams with flamestrike... it's not very exciting.

That's not reductive, at all. How you combo Kael'thas' abilities is fun and has a little more mixup than Jaina's combos because of when/where you use the verdant sphere buff.

Nerf on Jaina again? she's fine right now.

I would probably increase cooldown on phoenix, it's ridiculous right now.

Ignite is op. Thus all Kael builds are ignite builds and that is boring.

She's the best hero in the game probably. I don't know if blizz is fine with that they might be, someone's gotta be the best after all.

I don't even remember what happened yesterday..
Oooh yummy. So...

31 AI games at about 12 minutes a game average or so = 6.2 hours

15 QMs at 20 minutes a game average or so = 5 hours

= 11.2 hours of HOTS.

You played so long you can't even do math anymore (11 wins + 3 losses = 15!).
Hahaha thank you for this

Unfortunately, as much as I love KAel (most played hero!), he has two completely different periods in the game.

Pre 16, he's hard to play well. He's fragile, he doesn't do amazing damage, and you have a lot of decisions to make very rapidly about using your verdent spheres in different situations.

Post 16, you cast flamestrike every 7 seconds without exception. Throw living bomb and stun on anyone who gets close enough (you're probably about to die at that point anyway), but chain castying flamestrike is what you now exist for.

I don't think KAel needs a balance nerf, but he does need Ignite fixing. There's nothing wrong with a hero whose weak early on and very strong late game, but not when it removes all complexity from the character and turns you into a one spell machine.

31 AI games is very much WTF indeed. I can't even fathom a reason to play more than 1 (if it's a new hero)

Fun :)

12 minutes sounds very optimistic.
Yesterday I played a few vs AI games, the shortest was over 13 minutes, the longest was over 27 minutes.
(the shortest v.s. AI game I ever had was about 9 minutes)

I was playing with a guy all along (random pug)

After 20 or so games, he said he had to leave because he felt that his brain would explode

Jaina is the top hero not named Zeratul and has the best win rate this patch so..... also saying she's getting nerfed "again" when she hasn't been nerfed once in her existence as a hero in this game is a bit strange

They need to nerf the water elemental, but knowing Blizzard they will probably just nerf the whole hero and send her out of viability for the next six months.

Phoenix is hardly a problem. It having a short cool down is probably the most interesting characteristic that hero has. Flamethrower/ignite is the problem that needs addressed

How can anyone play that many A.I games @_@ My sanity breaks from one match...

I actually enjoy playing AI games, by that I mean 5 humans vs 5 AI's. It's relaxing, players are talkative and cheery. and it's a good way to play around with builds and not ruin anyone else's gameplay time because you always win no matter what crazy build you go with. Plus I can play Abathur and not feel like I'm gimping my team. Also, I get to see much more hero variety in the teams in co-op games than I do in quick matches. And as far as XP and gold per hour co-op games actually match up pretty well compared to QM's, due to the quick games and guaranteed victory's. This is assuming a 50% win rate for QM's and longer games compared to co-op's.

I know for some people co-op games have this stigma of being care-bear or something, but I guess I just care more about my own personal fun than peer perceptions.

How this game is built makes it require human opponents to be fun for me. I find no satisfaction in beating the A.I since it's so dumb.

On the topic of coop games. I played them quite alot when i first started. Was new to the genre ignoring a few minor dabbling and so i just wanted to make sure i knew things before i went into versus (which was what it was called back then from what i remember).

If there's something I've learned from getting into mobas though, you'll find most people don't do that and then start complaining even though they don't know what they're talking about.

Been getting into smite and dota2 recently and had the exact same experience. I read up about everything before hand so I didn't screw up, ended up knowing more than the people i get put with. Then they're the ones moaning...

I don't see why anyone would judge you for playing against the A.I., I just don't understand the appeal in a game like this. It's like a group of adults playing pick-up basketball against middle schoolers.

I started out with HotS playing only co-op games, now I play a mix of co-ops and QM's. While QM's are certainly more challenging and tense, sometimes I prefer a more relaxing experience, hence AI games. Plus I'll admit, somedays it's just gratifying to completely dominate the opposing AI team and have fun trying new strategies / tactics / builds without your team mates going apeshit and all negative because you did something that wasn't perfect or "normal". I guess for me, sometimes I find playing whatever character I want in whatever build or manner I want more fun than actually having a challenge. It's also strange, but queuing for co-op games is always instant, while sometimes trying to find a QM takes a very long time. So some nights when I just want to get in a quick game or two in less than half an hour I end up choosing AI games.

But we have options like these so that everyone can play the way they want to!

I like the AI for it's more relaxed experience, sometimes you want to play, but don't want to really focus more just relax, perhaps try out a build, perhaps new hero, or do the dailies, or that missing level for some gold.

Though I can't imagine finding myself playing too much AI, since the adrenaline rush I get from human opponents, but I find it as nice supplement sometimes.

Is Leoric expected to come out today? Reddit says tomorrow, but I see people saying that source is a Polish site and therefore the US patch will be Tuesday as usual.

Can someone explain to me how Rank points and MMR are related? I've been playing for a good while but only recently started doing hero league with friends. When we win, they usually get around 150 points while I'm hauling in like 400. Does the stimpack effect this? Why am I getting so much more than them?

Also when I solo queue hero league, I'm getting teamed up and matched against people hovering around rank 10 while I'm like rank 40. It's fine because I feel like their skill level is around mine regardless, but what's up with that? I thought they'd be matching me with people around my rank?

It will be late this evening for Europe. There's no real patch expected with Leoric, same as Johanna, as he's already in the game, so it should just be the case that they flip a switch.

Rank and mmr are superficially related, the latter is directly involved in mm, you can have a higher rank and a lower mmr and vice versa.

So while a higher ranking has a higher chance of denoting higher mmr they dont necesarily correlate linearly and shouldnt be treated that way (aka dont get salty if you're matched with someone several ranks below you)

They are not related really in any direct way. It's quite confusing!

MMR is the hidden number the game assigns you based on your win and loss rate, which is determined by who you beat and who you lose to. Based on that number, the game then assigns you a rank that it thinks you should be at.

Until you reach that rank, or until you lose enough games to lower your MMR, you will continue to get hefty huge skill bonuses as the game tries to push you to that rank. For me, once I hit rank 9 I lost my skill bonus - instantly stopped and never came back.

The thing is, MMR changes a *lot* when you first start playing as the system tries to find your real skill number. So if you win your first few matches you'll have an abnormally high MMR which then puts you in teams with people at the same MMR but a much higher rank. When you first start playing you can gain or lose 100 points a match in terms of MMR, whereas after 100 games you're lucky to gain 10 points for a win.

That's why people at rank40 get matched with people at rank 10. It's incredibly annoying for everyone, because there will *always* be people with those abnormally high MMRscores from their first few games because someone has to win their first few games. The system the thinks they are a higher skill than they are, matches them up with people at the same MMR who have played 200 games, and then it's just a shit fest most of the time.

The really annoying and perplexing thing about this is that it's a solved problem - placement matches. Blizzard do it in their other games, but for some reason they don't have them in HoTs. They would go a long way towards stopping this issue occurring.

I think I get it. So basically I have a higher MMR and it's superficially connected to my low rank, making me play with/against high ranked folks. And the game is giving me a lot of rank points to boost and catch me up to whatever rank they think I should be? Is that the gist of it? I'm not a veteran player but I'm definitely not new either. I've probably played around 600 games.

My friends were giving me shit saying my stimpack is doing it and what not lol, but that wouldn't make sense for a stimpack to boost your rank points! I just wanted to get some clarity on it so I understand better. My excuse before was "I'm getting higher skill points than ya'll cuz obviously I'm better lolol."

Gotta remember this is still the first season of ranked and it's still labeled "preseason", I gotta imagine there's a bunch of changes in the works for the rank system.

On another note, I really really hope they don't nerf the damage on Jaina or kaelthas. Their damage is what makes them interesting. If they get nerfed I hope it comes in the form less hp or range or maneuverability. I think the best thing they could do is remove blink from both heroes. I know it sounds rough, but their entire kits are balanced against how low their Hp is and how dependent they are on good positioning. Force them to be balanced the entire match instead of being completely broken at 20. The other change I would make is reducing the bonus range from flame thrower, just like blink it's too easy to play safe once you get it.

I would do one or the other, but not nerf their damage.
