Damn yoshi that fucking sucks, try looking to your school for help i feel like they would have resources to deal with this

Yeah Gazlowe, his skins are amazing, the character is great. Playing it is underwhelming and everyone hates you for picking him.

Murky gets that hatred as well, I want to own both of these heroes though, am I insane?

first of all. fuck that cheap bitch Nova... had to take it out of my system.

Guys, is there or will be there some kind of gaf thing for hots players once more people unlock leagues? I didnt see any useful links in the OP. I would definitely like to team up with some people who have teamwork on their minds. Quick Match is frustrating more times than not.

quick edit: forgot to ask. my battle.net says it needs to be connected online and it fails everytime. is this because of the maintenance?

Playing as Rehgar is intense as fuck

Most fun hero in the game. Great peeler and can keep people up while doing damage himself

Join the NeoGAF chat channel (Type /join NeoGAF in chat window) and ask if anyone is available to party up. Send a friend invite to anyone who joins, so you both get the friend XP bonus.

And yeah, maintenance is going on, game should be back up in 15 minutes. I'll be on then, if you want to party up.

edit- if you quote the OP, you can see a link to the GoogleDoc with a GAF player list and the Mumble channel info.

awesome, that's good to know, thanks! I'm at work right now but it's fairly quiet so if I can play a game or two I'll jump on

You're talking about Valla and it sounds like the dwarf was Muradin. If you went for an auto attack build against Muradin you probably discovered it doesn't do much to him thanks to one of his level one talents. He's a warrior (tank).

You were absolutely right about the character names. I was using Valla against Muradin. That guy was really painful to play against, let's see if I perform better the next time. Thanks a lot for the informations!

You're wrong. Not much else to say, you're saying one of the easiest ranged assassins to escape with (Valla) is bad at escaping compared to warriors (She's not) or implying there's a balance issue somehow when you're playing one of the consitently top 10 heroes in the game. Just learn the game more :) You'll get better.

I've played League of Legends like ages ago and was pretty good (at least that's what my rank was considered at that time). Valla, a bit, reminds me of a mixture of Vayne (the escape skill) and Ashe. The positioning wasn't that much of a problem (even if it was not the best positioning mankind has seen for sure!) but my team in general got stomped pretty hard. I'll just keep playing, didn't do a bit of theory crafting so far. It's confusing that there is no "last hitting" and such like in League.

Just saw a tip on Reddit: if you suspect the enemy team might be doing mercs or boss, hit tab and look at their siege damage. If it's going up, then they are. Could come in handy.

Yeah that's a great tip, a lot of ppl dont know that if the camp shows up on the minimap while a map objective creature is summoned it means that the camp is being done

Today has been hilarious.

solo Rehgar lane pushers are a thing, man. Rehgar on our team, the only support, was bragging how he did the most healing. They should mandate that when you pick a hero for the first time, you have to play 3 matches against AI first.

hero league. our side rushes to pick Gazlowe first, going for pve build on Blackheart Bay, ahahahaha. Went as expected.

I'm astonished how often I end up stuck in a lane solo as Rehgar in randoms, actually. It's amazing how many teams of even experienced people will just want to stick with their RL buddies in a lane at the start of a match even if that first 5 minutes can mean fighting a 2-3 level disadvantage all game.

lol 10 minute ranked game in Sky Temple. I just simply walked in to their core with Johanna and we killed them over and over and over again. Op hero is op.

Gonna suck so hard when they drop the nerf hammer on her. I honestly don't feel that she's that unbalanced outside of her lvl 20 skill (which will be gone or nerfed into uselessness, guaranteed) and the fact that Battle Momentum essentially removes the need to pick up two other talents in place of better stuff.

I don't feel she's been an enormous gamechanger in high level play to justify anything significant, but then again there's a new flavor of the week meta every week and you never know what will get abused.

Wow, epic comeback in Garden. We had a Jaina who was just feeding the other team, a Sylvanas who kept lagging, and a Raynor who solo pushed top the whole game. I was Brightwing and just trying to do what I can, even though we were down 3 levels most of the game. I managed to get the Garden Terror twice and take down 2 forts. In the end, we took 2 siege camps (thank you Bribe!) and Raynor and I assaulted the core.

On a kneejerk level it seems that johanna doesnt really do much that you wouldnt find in better sources besides take hits, but yeah she's new

This happens to me all the time; it even happens when I duo queue. (We get paired with a stack of three who refuse to split up, so we're stuck soloing the other two lanes no matter how badly the heroes are suited to it.) You're basically stuck spamming Lightning Shield on lane creeps, which is just barely better than sitting there doing nothing. It also happens with Malfurion, who is a complete waste in the early game when you can't abuse Innervate.

i tend to only do well with her when the enemies are constantly focusing me. each time we go up against a johanna i tell my team to just ignore her for the most part and team fights seem to improve from there.

i could see things like anub's web wrap working as a decent counter, but yeah i'm betting she still gets her trait nerfed in some way (duration decreased/cooldown increased or mana cost increase most likely).

Her self-sustain seems better than even old Arthas's- it's a style we just haven't seen in-game since he got "reworked" (aka nerfed into the ground, despite what EU thinks.)
Like, I get that Raynor is designed to be the entry-level assassin, but I still find his design really depressing.
His design is for a game like LoL with strong minions/towers that no longer exists.
Malfurion sucks.
He doesn't, it's that burst > sustained damage right now.

Also, this whole thing with talent unlocking is really just a terrible design, I think. Until you get to level 25, it's basically just "don't forget to lose a game with every new hero so that you can remember how losing works!"

Would he be a specialist, then?

What bugs me about Raynor is that he has three non-intersecting abilities and his primary damage dealing strategy is autoattack. So it's like the least interesting playstyle in the world. One of his abilities even fires itself for you so you don't have to worry about it! Like I said, I get that he's the Li Li of damage dealers, but I just don't enjoy him. At least in League autoattackers get to buy a bunch of crazy items and scale in various, slightly differentiated ways.

Also, on a more micro level, without an effective slow (Penetrating Shot can talent for a slow, but it also has a knockback), everybody just kept running away from me, which is also what I do when I see Raynor.

It's okay there are lots of other heroes. Jaina is a ton of fun.

Raynor is a buffer. His inspire talent line turn him and your whole party into monster.
Movement and ASPD for 9 sec, on a 10 sec CD.
The only problem with Ray I can see is that his stun and all his best dps talent is on the same level.
Ray can snowball at late game that no other assassins can catch up with him in term of DPS. He can penshot you for 1k, and then auto attack for 500/sec.
It is pretty much over if he reaches this stage. Your tank will die in second that your backline will fall afterward.

Malfurion sucks.

well that sucks to hear I was debating paying $5 for the starter pack in the store. All I really wanted was that dwarf from the pack (Mauldin).

Good thing mauldin is in the free rotation this week. I'll give him a go and see how much I like him

Malfurion is a pretty good Support. I bought that Starter Pack and really enjoyed playing as him. Though now that I own Brightwing, I don't play as any other support anymore.

Bought Uther with gold because he's a pimp, played two games and pretty much hated him.

Decided to take him to level 5 regardless and now I love him. One thing about these heroes and the way the talents are locked - you really need to play several games with someone before making an educated decision about whether they truly fit your play style.

Starter pack is still good. Stimpack, 6K gold worth of heroes and a mount for 5 bucks is definitely a help starting out.

I mean, I'm not a fan of the forced talent gating, but this is pretty reductive. It's far more likely you're losing on a sub-5 hero because you don't know how to play it and are bad at it than because you're missing some of the talent choices. FAR MORE likely.

Sure. I totally agree, that is a lot more likely.

It would be nice to be sure, though! I have on several occasions now played two games with a hero, lost the first one terribly, and won the second one handily. I could just be a quick learner. Or the matchmaker might think I'm terrible after the first game and give me scrubs. But not being able to take the talents I wanted to take in the first game definitely doesn't help me play my best, especially when the talents in the first two slots don't form a cohesive build. (Jaina gets Frost Bolt talents offered in her first two choices -- but the key Frost Bolt talent, Ice Lance, is unavailable to a new player. Too bad if you went that way! Ditto Diablo with Black Soulstone, etc.)

Don't get me wrong, I'm terrible at this game. But I also don't think the talent gating is well-designed for its theoretical purpose, which I assume is to get a new player going with a smaller selection of talent choices that will allow them to be effective without decision paralysis.

Don't disagree entirely there, but it's a minor nuisance at this point since the level 25 unlock works now. Anyone that isn't a complete moba newbie (the types that the talent choices are crippling for in the first place) will get 25 reasonably quickly.

davepoobond

you can't put a price on sparks
Talent gating is kind of dumb but I honestly didnt have much trouble because of it. It gives you more time to focus on the battleground strategies than talent strategies
