Well you got three people to believe your shit.
1) That article is old. Warner has recently come out and explicitly stated that they will be staying neutral until next year when they will rethink their position based on the market.

Now the studio has released brand new specs for the box set, which has been renamed 'The Die Hard Collection' and is set to include all four films in the franchise. Furthermore, Fox now says it will also make the first three films -- 'Die Hard,' 'Die Hard 2: Die Harder' and 'Die Hard with a Vengeance' -- available as stand-alone Blu-ray releases.
Details for each of the individual films remain the same, with each 'Die Hard' flick enjoying a BD-50 dual-layer disc with 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video and DTS-HD Lossless Master Audio 5.1 surround tracks.

DarkJediKnight said:It would look like crap. 1080p has 6 times the resolution of DVD, and it takes rougly 4 times the disc space of a comparable DVD transfer. So, let's say a DVD at 480i takes about 5gb for video only, a similar transfer in 1080p will be around 20gb. There is no way you can fit all the Die Hard movies on one 50gb disc unless the bitrates are in mid single digit numbers.
Toshiba 51GB triple-layer HD DVD standard not final version
Jimmy Hsu, Taipei; Adam Hwang, DIGITIMES [Monday 17 September 2007]
A Toshiba-developed single-sided triple-layer HD DVD disc format with a total storage capacity of 51GB that was reportedly approved by the DVD Forum is just a preliminary version (version 1.9) rather than a final one, according to industry sources in Taiwan.
Although Toshiba unveiled the new disc standard at the 2007 Consumer Electronics Show in January 2007, neither the company nor the DVD Forum have officially released an announcement of the approval, the sources pointed out.
The 51GB triple-layer HD DVD standard will enhance the competitiveness of HD DVD against Blu-ray Disc (BD), since the largest storage capacity of a single-sided double-layer BD disc is 50GB, the sources indicated. But even if the final version of the triple-layer HD DVD standard comes out soon, it would take one to three quarters before the start of production of corresponding disc drives/players and the production costs during the initial stages may be higher than that of BD drives/players, the sources noted.

Jin-Roh is coming to the US with BETTER features than the $100 Japanese version that streets next week. The US one is $80 (or $55 at Amazon) and is missing the DVD version of the film included in the Japanese release, but instead gets a 522 page storyboard book that came with the Japanese DVD LE years ago (it's an awesome book).
I cancelled my JPN order and will be picking this up instead.
Paprika also got a release date in the US for the same day I think, $38.95.
These are the Blu-ray versions.

Bebpo said:HD-DVD really doesn't exist much in Japan, so anime = Japan = Japanese publishers = Blu-ray. The early dual-format releases were supposedly a result of BV's obligations to MS, which don't seem to exist anymore.
brandonh83 said:On Dead Man's Chest, is it just me or is there a lot of grain during the darker scenes? Don't get me wrong, the detail is still incredibly vibrant, but when I look at the darker spots, like the night sky shots, I see a lot of grain. Is that the video, or could it just be my set? And for all I know, it could be normal.

What's the ONE HD Blu-Ray movie that will absolutely blow my fucking face off with its awesome PQ and general amazing-ness?
Please don't list a bunch of movies. I want ONE. I want the first thing I put into my PS3 and display on my new TV make me want to take a dump on the respectable 27'' SD set I've been using since I went to college...

Didn't BV pretty much kill the HD-DVD release in Japan?

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced it will release the anime title 'Paprika' this November.
Directed by Satoshi Kon ('Perfect Blue,' 'Tokyo Godfathers'), 'Paprika' is based on a 1991 story by legendary Japanese writer Yasutaka Tsutsui about a beautiful young psychotherapist whose alter-ego enters people's dreams in order to understand their subconscious thoughts.
Hailed by critics, the film enjoyed a long run in limited US theatrical release, first hitting theaters in late May of this year, and was still playing on sixteen screens as recently as last weekend.
Building on the film's strong momentum, Sony today announced a cross-format bow for 'Paprika' on Blu-ray and standard-def DVD for November 27.
Complete audio/video specs weren't available at press time, but the Blu-ray release is set to carry over four featurettes from the standard-def release, plus several high-def exclusives, including storyboard comparisons, animatics and photo galleries.
'Paprika' will be Sony's second Anime title to be released on Blu-ray, following 'Tekkonkinkreet,' which is due to hit stores September 25.
Sony has set a $38.96 list price for 'Paprika.
