That would explain how the leak was so damn specific
But, what does it really have to do with gaming?
Wait, what leak?

And i highly doubt it has anything to do with the format war, why would it be announced on a gaming channel? Its probably either something really stupid, or some game of "omgwtfbbq" levels on either said going multiplat.

The AOTS announcement is at 7:20 Eastern, why would they wait so long after Warner's supposed future announcement to make an earthshattering announcement that was already made earlier in the day?

Also, 7:20 Eastern = 4:20 Pacific.

I bet it's G4 announcing that they're going HD.

Have you ever watched Attack of the Show? It isn't gaming only ... unless the format has changed. Granted, I haven't watched it in a while.

I though it was more of a 'lifestyle' show for the Playstation/X-box demographic; and includes gaming, PC's, 'what's cool on the internet', pop culture, electronics, gadgets, etc.

Beyond all of that, to pretend that the HD format war has no relevance to gaming at all ... is simply inaccurate.

There would be two ways for information this specific to come out.

Someone at the company was either asked to release the information on a forum, or did it without permission.

Or, a 3rd party, probably a reporter of some kind, was given the information early for some reason or another and, and since people can't keep secrets.

Of course, this is assuming this information is true.

You are right.

The timing doesn't make much sense then ... though does G4 have any live shows on earlier that would even line up with the announcement?

Warner releasing Batman Begins and V for Vendetta would be good enough news for me. Get on it Warner!

I think Main Event was the one who posted that to stir shit up. :)

That guy is probably a HD DVD supporter and just wants to see all the Blu-Ray fans get riled so when it comes out that Warner is going HD DVD exclusive everyone will meltdown.

What the hell?
Paramount switches to HD DVD only, then they switch to AVC instead of VC-1, then add a TrueHD track, a DTS ES 6.1 track, and a DD+ track....
While other movies are not given such a treatment with regards to audio.

I doubt that news. The bundling of 300 with every 3rd Gen Toshiba (which, btw, is a different sku from the original retail version), the exclusives that they keep promising to put out on BR but haven't, their heavy presence on XBLA for the 300 HD DVD promotion, the heavy pimping on the official HD DVD site, etc.

I think their relationship with Toshiba is excellent. Of course, weirder things have happened, but this would certainly be a bigger turnaround than Paramount.

And as for that poster, these appear to be his ONLY posts on that forum.

Man, Warner going BD exclusive is only good if it ends the format war. It will be better news (for me) if they go BD exclusive than if they go HD-DVD exclusive though. I can't afford two formats, I'm still a student and I enjoy watching HD movies, but I don't have my own place and a steady full-time job.

I have a question, when is Blu-Ray going to have some features like web connectivity and PiP commentary like the 300 HD-DVD.

No. The only thing I look forward for tomorrow is a trout dinner.

Yeah, you're probably right, it was too easy to make up. But if it turns out true, I'm going to party like it's 1999! You really think that the Blu-ray would do absolutely nothing after the whole Paramount fiasco?

If it's true, this will be bigger than Paramount.

I just find it hard to believe that Warner would do an about face like that. I'm not sure that the BDA can sway any more studios. They should make deals that will affect retail, like more BlockBuster deals. That seems more realistic.

Well see tomorrow.

Resident Evil Extinction, Hairspray, Cars (I think), and some other disney stuff I can't remember. Profile 1.1 is done. The problem obviously is getting players to update.

As far as the Warner announcement, it means nothing until confirmed.

This point doesn't mean a thing. Paramount had final copies of Blades of Glory on Blu-ray, and then the switch happened and they basically ate those copies. The deal for 300 was probably made some time ago, and if this Warner "news" ends up being true, the switch was probably finalized long after the 300 / Toshiba deal was made.

their heavy presence on XBLA for the 300 HD DVD promotion, the heavy pimping on the official HD DVD site, etc.

These also mean nothing. Of course they're going to pimp 300 on the XBLA - it's a title perfectly geared towards the typical Xbox 360 owner, and it helps to sell Xbox 360 HD-DVD players.

As for site pimping, why wouldn't you pimp out every company that you can when you're considered the underdog? Unless you mean that Warner Bros. is being pimped far more than any other company, and even then, again, this deal may have been made very recently. Again, look at Paramount, look at their upcoming list of Blu-ray releases, and look how they ALL were pulled in like a moment's notice.

I won't believe this is real until I see it, but not at all for the reasons you gave.

Isn't that movie still in theaters?? They already announced the specs on it?

This is way different from that. The bundling is a co-promotion with Toshiba, and besides, according to the rumor, the deal doesn't go into effect until next year, so it won't affect this year's big titles. If the 300 bundle deal ends in, say, December and then Warner goes BR exclusive in January, this will be a far bigger turnaround than Paramount. FAR bigger. Warner and Toshiba have had close ties for a long time, unlike Paramount and BR.

While I don't necessarily believe the info ... your points are irrelevant. The OP specifically stated that the decision was very recent.

Of course its bigger, I know that! When someone shoots you on the arm, do you aim at his arm or his head?

Anyways, I don't think that the fact AOTS said it would reveal something big tomorow on their show contradict this rumor about a 10 AM announcement. It's G4, they would announce something every gafers have known for days as an EXCLUSIVE info!

Well, we know that both sides have made offers to Warner to become exclusive, so I understand that. This would be an incredibly shocking move considering Warner's ties to Toshiba, and that's what I'm pointing out. I know full well that a monster deal would sever any ties, but this would be nothing short of stunning.

I'm confused ... you act like Warner has no ties to BluRay?

They aren't just a supporting company, they are part of the BDA Board of Directors.

Are you seriously debating who they have stronger ties with or are you just arguing for the hell of it? I'm not sure if you really believe that this would be a natural move for them or if you're pretending so that you can act nonchalant if it actually happens.

by the way, you might want to send an email to the folks on your link. They might want to scrub Paramount out of their list of contributors. :lol

I'm not debating that Warner has ties to Toshiba. To be honest, I'm not even aware of what their specific ties are.

What I am debating is your poo-pooing of their ties to BluRay. They are part of the BDA Board of Directors, which means they have voting privileges for the format.

Your seeming implication that they don't have strong ties to BDA is what I'm arguing.

I would suspect they may remain listed until their titles are no longer available.

He can debate whatever he wants. You act like it's completely nonsensical for Sony to money hat Warner Bros. Guess what, buddy: Microsoft didn't invent the money hat... Sony can use them, too. And if they threw enough money at Warner, Warner would tell Toshiba to eat a whole barrel of dicks, and that they can shove their high def format right up their asses because if Warner goes Blu-ray exclusive, the format war is over.

This "news" is complete bullshit either way, but your incessant BRD and BRD-supporter smearing is infuriating. Why the fuck are you not permabanned yet.

I have implicated no such thing. They joined the BDA director's board back in 2005 and they have been putting out Blu Rays since then, how the hell could they not have ties? What sort of logical leap do you have to take to assume that me stating they have strong ties to Toshiba means that they have none with Blu Ray?? Both sides have been courting WB, and despite them stating they were staying neutral, its been suggested they might pick a side. Most folks would've guessed HD DVD over BR, and NOT because they don't have ties with the BDA. If they didn't have ties, Toshiba would've lured them over with Paramount and probably before.

I'm going to sleep.

I'll believe it when it is OFFICIALLY announced.

New Line will also go Blu-ray exclusive starting 2008 (Hairspray hint anyone?)
-One big catalogue title will be released exclusive on Blu-ray by Q2 2008. I believe Peter Jackson has something to do with that title

Holy fracking crap if this is true.

Stuff like this does not get leaked so easily. We all will see come tomorrow.

If any movie studio has no incentive to go exclusive to either camp it's Warner. They are probably the only studio seeing real profits on both formats.
