LOL, they fixed it minutes after I posted this. figures...I was right in the middle of ordering The Day After Tomorrow BD too.bune duggy said:shit, this is going to be at the bottom of the page. oh well.
OCTOBERBOGO @ fye.com for buy1get1 50% off. there's a glitch on the website though and you only have to have one item in the cart to get it to work. Tekkon Kinkreet [Blu-Ray] is in stock and is $39.91. 50% of that sound like a good deal?
edit: apparently it also works with the Warner "Best of blu-ray" sets. wow.
druie said:Has anyone else had issues with the Knocked Up HD-DVD using the 360 Player?
I bought my first copy from Best Buy, brought it home, a loading screen came up, but it failed to complete. Took it out and restarted it a few times, rubbed it off, and eventually the disc just stopped playing altogether, immediately reverting back to the dashboard. The DVD side worked fine, however. So, I exchanged it today for another, and I come home to the same exact problem. I've tested my player with other movies, and I haven't had any problems getting those to work.
I'm anticipating Best Buy will put up a struggle in refunding my purchase, and I really don't want to go through the trouble of dealing with Universal.
Is this a known defect, or do I just have bad luck?

yea it's true, I was a little surprised. There's no splash background like with PS3 games I think, that would be cool.Oni Jazar said:I'd love to see a picture of this.

Where are people getting the Spiderman trilogy?
Oni Jazar said:It's out in Australia apparently. Region free.
I hope this is true. One of my annoyances with BD movies in the PS3 is that there's no way to identify them when they're in the drive like you can with games. Hell, it even gets CDDB information automatically when you're listening to a CD.distantmantra said:I didn't see anyone mention it already, but like the Spider-man films, Black Book and Tekkonkinkreet are both recognized by the PS3 with a unique icon and name. Kilgore AVS Forum said:If you put the Knocked Up HD DVD disc in for the first time, and wait a minute or two, you should see a box that says LOADING with a red and black barber pole-like status bar next to it. If you do see this, WAIT!! Do NOT restart your console. A cookie is being downloaded to your 360, and it takes at least 10 MINUTES or so for it to fully download, so you just have to be patient and wait. In a while, the movie will start as per normal. Any other time you play the movie, it will start like any other HD DVD.
Now, if you're a dink like me, saw this loading screen, and, thinking there was a problem, decided to restart your XBOX before letting this update occur, when you try to play the movie, your screen will go black for a few seconds and then you will get kicked back out to the dashboard. THIS IS WHAT YOU MUST DO:
1: Go to the System blade
2: Go down and select Memory
3: Go down and Select HD Player (NOT Hard Drive)
4: Go down to the bottom entry. More than likely, it will be the largest entry in the list. When the cookie is fully downloaded, it will be 11 MB in size. When I checked for the cookie, it was 1MB in size (at the time i stopped the download).
5: When you have found the entry, DELETE IT.
6: Retry starting the movie and wait for the loading screen. When you see it, you will know you have succeeded.
Once you do see the LOADING screen, you will know it, since you won't ever have seen it before. BE PATIENT and let it do it's thing. At first it will say LOADING and after 3-5 minutes, the screen will dgo to black, and then the LOADING screen will reappear with a CANCEL button. Ignore the cancel cutton...just be prepared to wait another 10 minutes or so....then lo and behold the movie will start.
I'm not sure exactly what this cookie does, but it's probably related to the new U-CONTROL look and the web-enabled features. In any case, this "problem" is really an update, so no need to panic.
druie said:Thanks for the info, I've got it working now.
You'd think they would put some type of warning or message on the download screen not to quit or turn off the machine or a slip of paper inside the box. I can only imagine casual consumers doing the same exact thing that happened to me and becoming really frustrated. Poor move!
MadOdorMachine said:I've got the OPPO 971H and it has the best picture quality by far of any other DVD player I've tried. I have a 56" 720p Samsung DLP, so I needed a good scaler. The OPPO does and excellent job at scaling, but the image quality is entirely dependent on the DVD source. Obviously older single layer DVDs aren't going to look as good when upscaled as newer dual-layered, master from an HD source DVD. If your mind is made up on holding out, OPPO is the way to go.
...
indeed, and an 11MB cookie at that.Dot50Cal said:10 Minutes for a cookie? :lol

I haven't had a chance to properly watch it since it's a birthday present and so has been confiscated for now, but I was allowed to "test" it. Video's MPEG-4 AVC according to my player, 1080i according to the back of the box. The episodes default to English with optional Japanese subtitles, and when my curiosity got the better of me I found that David Schwimmer sounds funny when he's raving in Japanese.
It looks really nice having watched the DVDs half a dozen times, and although the whole thing's deliberately grainy I was very happy with the amount of detail in the picture. I've been informed that it's a big improvement on the original (MPEG-2) HBO-HD broadcasts and I was plenty impressed with the scenes that I jumped to, like the D-Day jumps with all the planes and flak in the air and the assault at Brecourt Manor.
Now I just have to wait until I'm allowed to lose another ten hours of my life to this series...

It was a Dreamworks production though, and they're HD DVD. But according to IMDb the home video rights (in the US at least) are held by HBO Home Video who also hold the rights to The Sopranos which has come out on both formats. So who knows. All I know is I'm thankful that the format isn't region coded.shantyman said:Saw an HD Transformers on DVD/HD-DVD commercial last night. I cried (Blu only household).
BD-P1000 - can be finicky, some have stuttering
BD-P1200 - get a screen saying to update firmware, will not play
LG BH100 - reports that it doesn't work
Pioneer - ok
Sony - ok
Panny - ok
BD-P1400-ok
Reports of people having trouble with the new BD+ copy protection is starting to surface. The movies in question are Fox's Blu-ray releases of "Day After Tomorrow, The" and "Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer."
BD+ is a extra layer of copy protection. With it, they should be able to change the keys used to unlock it. In short this means that if a BD+ disc is hacked and copied they can change the keys which secures future discs of being copied.
All in all a good idea. However, reports of difficulties playing these BD+ protected Blu-ray releases are starting to surface.
Here is what we know so far:
Samsung players seem to be unable to play the discs but a firmware upgrade should be available or in works. However, some say they will not play on the lates firmware from the company. Panasonic players will play the disc but load times are very high. Again, Playstation 3 seems to be the safest bet when it come to Blu-ray. It should play them without problems.
What could be another major problem is that each time the studio change keys a firmware upgrade may be needed on some players. To make things worse many Blu-ray players doesn't even have a internet connection making firmware upgrades more difficult.
We hope this is not the case. If so, i feel that the Blu-ray camp may have scored a goal in its own net. Copy protection shouldn't make life hard for those that pay hard earned dollars for their legal movies. This in the end may push people into downloading illegal movies. At least here they know that these movies will play.
If you have problems with the discs or they work as a charmer please post your comments below. We will return when we have tried these discs out ourselves.
