It's a pretty big win for Blu-ray this week. Looks like BD will not relinquish the lead any time this year, and possibly never relinquish the lead. I've been saying this for a long time now, and that is that HD-DVD simply can't win this fight, and its only ability left is to drag BD down with it.

Thought you were only going neutral if HD DVD won the week.

Eh the way I see it is that even if Warner goes BR exclusive and everyone else goes br exclusive Universal will still be anal fucks and keep their things away for a while.

One good thing about HD-DVD is that it's so cheap that serious movie fans can get a HD-DVD player and not feel much of a sting. Won't be before they're giving them away I suspect.

WAY late on this, but since I just saw Transformers, I don't know that they're going to change that. Even on the downloadable widget where it shows each Transformer and their life bar, they list that robot as Devastator.

Yah, I doubt they'll ever edit those inconsistencies. Even for a down the road double dip. Unless those cuts are ready on hand. The Devastator/Brawl thing though should be easy to fix.

Did his life bar go from 100 to 50 to 0 during his sequence? :lol

What was loud, your 360 or the spinning disc on the add-on? I've never been bothered by the noise, but I'm sure the Ps3 is even quieter. Also, is the noise what's pushing you towards going for a standalone, cause you seem pretty pleased otherwise.

BTW, congrats on going format neutral. Let us know what you think of Hot Fuzz and the special features on Heroes. Also, King Kong is still packed in, no? I didn't see you mention getting that for free.

I really can not tell which it is that is loudest, it is just the combination.
For the record too I have an elite with the new smaller power brick.

As far as what is pushing the standalone it is a combo of the noise, looks plus space , and also there are alot of odd pauses that I presume are just the stand alone.

Hot Fuzz was great all around, havent busted into Heroes yet. Shaun locked up a few times which is pretty irritating but it is Shaun of the fucking dead so it is great.

Yeah it still comes with King Kong and the remote also.

the 360 hd-dvd add on isn't loud at all; in fact, it's as quiet as the ps3 (imo of course).

what IS loud is the 360 itself, and whether a disc is spinning in the 360 or not is irrelevant. that machine (as much as i love it) is loud as fuck no matter what its doing. you can even hear it running if you turn the system "off" while you charge a controller.

props to sony on their construction of the ps3. when my 360 is on, it sounds like there's a damn motorcycle running in my bedroom. the only noise i can hear from my ps3 is the beep the machine makes when i turn it on and off.

You could be ( and probably are ) quite right about where the noise is coming from.

like i said, my opinion so your mileage is probably different than mine. in any case, congrats on snagging the drive, there's some great titles available on hd-dvd. hope despite the loud noise you can get some enjoyment out of it.

Yeah the system noise from my X360 while playing an HD-DVD is the #1 reason why I will always pick up the Blu-ray version if I have a choice. It detracts from the movie experience somewhat when it sounds like there's a vacuum cleaner running in the background.

Holy shit, they still haven't fixed the error in the system @ Best Buy! I just got the Matrix ultimate collection, Planet Earth complete, and Heroes Season 1 w the drive for $195! :lol

I thought about going that road but I already have Planet Earth on blu, and the only Matrix I liked was the first one.
Good pick ups though, anyone who has an hd tv and either hd format needs Planet Earth in their collection.

There is no loud noise while my 360 is on the dashboard or watching movies (via 360 or HD-DVD drive).

if your 360 is loud as fuck, it's either an old unit or broken.

note: my 360 is HDMI premium.

Anyone know what extras the EU release has on disc 5 yet?

Is everyone sure the box-set thing is an error?

Odd that it wouldn;t be fixed if it was.

I think it's being specified in the promotion that box sets are not included, but their system accepts it anyway.

The promotion actually says any movie 34.99 and under ( i think that is the figure), but they may have changed it

If yours isn't, that is great but from reading different boards and some reviews you are in a minority.

what? is there still some deal going on at bestbuy?!

Best Buy currently has a deal where you get the heroes boxed set and two movies of your choice for free when you get the 360 add on drive.
It is supposed to be two movies under 34.99 but it is accepting boxed sets also.

For Bluray walmart.com is currently doing a 2 for 1

You could be in the minority as well.

my friend HDMI premium sounds the same, same goes for my other friend with his Halo edition 360.

even my launch 360 didn't sound like a fucking airplane (on the dashboard/movies anyway).

only one time where it did sound like an airplane taking off is with one of my friend's 360, it happened after we did the xclamp fix on it, weird shit.

whether you believe me or not is up to you, i don't have anything else to say in this matter.

Does the price update when you add movies to the cart? Thanks for the info btw.

Wow! I was thinking of grabbing the HD-DVD add on with this deal today. If I could get Planet Earth with it I'd be one happy happy guy. Looks like I'm off to Best Buy! :)

are those the ones with the Insecticon, Grimlock and Starscream? They were on the Sector 7 website back in the summer. Very annoying to watch because it makes it readily apparent that they could have made a G1 movie and it would have looked pretty good.

Yeah...I guess I missed them back then.

Indeed they should have used the old models, which look a thousand times better than the generic ones in the movie.

Have there been any reviews of Spidey 1 and 2 in the trilogy box set? I wonder if the quality makes it worth getting it for the first two movies?

Make sure you take the game disc out if there's one in there. It sometimes reads it while HD DVD drive is running. Obviously makes a big difference.

Those are really, really cool.

Is there a schedule they're releasing the web extras on? I'm jonesin' for those features beyond the videos, but nothing so far...

Just got back from Best Buy. I was unable to do the X360 player + Matrix + PlanetEarth + Heroes for $195 deal. The register only took $35 off each box set.

Put it back. Too bad.

my launch 360 is noisy as a bastard in idle mode. Disc in or not. The HDDVD add on was pretty quiet, but the 360 itself was breathing very heavily (well ventilated area)

So I dumped it for a standalone. And then dumped the standalone to try and manage on just one format for a while, mostly out of principal for this being so fucked up. Although if Warner don't release the Matrix on bluray before easter I'll probably go dual format.

Actual numbers for best 1st week releases! Nice lies Paramount! :lol

Transformers HD-DVD
Week Ending 10/21/07 = 89,871 Units (First Week sale
VideoScan First Alert)

---

300 HD-DVD/DVD Combo Pack
Week Ending 8/5/07 = 56,191 Units (First Week sales
VideoScan First Alert)

---

300 Blu-ray
Week Ending 8/5/07 = 107,351 Units (First Week sales
VideoScan First Alert)

20k shy of 300 on Blu-ray's record.

Haha, I guess they finally wised up and fixed it.

wait, didn't 300 do 250k first week?

I thought it did around 100k HD DVD and 150k Blu-ray?

something about these numbers is off...

Shipped versus sold?

In any case, Transformers sales exaggerated for PR's sake... shocking!

I read that article where you're getting those #'s. That figure is for 3 retailers which account for 60-70 percent of the market. Why are you going with those #'s instead of nielsen?

Shipped versus sold?

definitely not the case if we talk Warner's numbers:

http://home.businesswire.com/portal...d=news_view&newsId=20070806006367&newsLang=en

from August 7th press release:

Today Warner Home Video (WHV) announced that it has the fastest and highest-selling high definition title in the market with the epic action-adventure, “300.” Since July 31, 2007, “300” has sold more than 250,000 copies to consumers on HD DVD and Blu-ray Disc.

unless they sold almost another 100,000 copies of 300 in one day, it seems either Nielson is off, or Warner was fibbing about their own figures...

Of course, Nielson numbers and Paramount/Warner numbers aren't the only ones out there, there is also Home Media Research numbers (which take into account Nielson) to consider...

All told, I'd say it's hard to tell which is the most accurate of the 3 sources, but I'm surprised Warner would feel a need to exaggerate their numbers... everyone knows they are the #1 high-def studio (over 30% marketshare)....

This now calls into question thier assertion that 300 has sold over 400k a few weeks ago.

DVD Talk reviewed the box set. They said the image quality for Spiderman 2 is great, but Spiderman 1 is underwhelming.
