can you create a thread asking why people won't buy PS3 here?

gkrykewy said:Snah, you continue to be in the wrong forum for this bullshit. I've had a 360 since its launch, and there's only so much free time to go around. There are too many 360 games for me to get to, and no PS3 games available or planned that I just *have* to have, expecially considering I also own a Wii and DS, with a backlog of games.
neojubei said:Does anyone know if spirited away or any Miyazaki film will be on blu-ray?
Oh and what is HD-DVD's strategy for Japan? Isn't Blu-ray king over there?
Snah said:I haven't even brought up 'this bullshit' at all previous to my question.
Don't take a question addressed to you as if I'm personally attacking you. It was an honest, genuine question.
Jesus. People on this board are so sensitive over the most trivial shit.
Warm Machine said:Japan / Asia is pointless movie format wise. Hell, VCDs ruled asia while the rest of the world was using VHS.
distantmantra said:If it weren't for Asia, we wouldn't have Infernal Affairs on Blu-ray. For that alone, they're not pointless. Plus, we've got Gundam movies coming from Japan in February.
gkrykewy said:No, Snah, you are the most transparent and silly sony-partisan on the entire interwebs. It was just annoying that you chose to bring the console discussion so directly into this thread.

this is where it breaks down for me - all the emotional baggage. Toshiba aren't the 'good guy' fighting the good fight against the evile Sony. But Toshiba are a large faceless corporation just like Sony.
and Sony are only one member of the BDA. Its been discussed that Panasonic is actually a very strong IPR owner in Bluray, yet its Sony that gets all the bile.
I don't get it.
I hate the format war because its splintering the media. I'd prefer one colour of packaging. I happen to have a bluray player so I would prefer bluray to be that format. I also think thats the more logical choice and I've given reasons for that before.
But the idea that people are making similar choices to me but based on who is 'good' and who is 'bad' is just sad frankly.
In a statement released late Thursday, Kmart VP Jonathan Magasanik said the following:
There have been numerous statements in the media today, attributed to Toshiba, indicating exclusive support for the HD DVD format in Kmart stores. These statements are false. Kmart intends to support both the HD DVD and Blu-ray platforms, and has no plans to support either platform exclusively.

neojubei said:I would love to see that and/or the original movie on Blu-ray. When I first say Ghost in the Shell on dvd, i was shocked how awesome it looked, but it would be pure awesome in hi-def.
Hopefully Macross Zero and Macross Plus make it on blu-ray. Sony or someone needs to start putting anime films on blu-ray.
Oh and has anyone been spoiled with Hi-def to the point that you actually refuse to buy DVD. I have, I was in Strawberries in Government Center in Boston and I could not bring myself to look at any of the DVDs expect the blu-ray section, either looking for a good deal on a movie i want or something interesting. If it wasn't for the Yuffie Kusaragi action figure, I would have bought the twilight zone movie on blu-ray. Is that a good transfer on blu-ray?
OokieSpookie said:Innocence looks breathtaking on Bluray, the first Ghost in the Shell looks great and sounds amazing.
Both are available as imports with english subs. (though a little pricey)

Does this mean it's a sign of things to come? Should I break out my hipwaders?

B-Ri said:lol, theyre back in the game with desperation price drops. A format thats losing will cut its profits and take more losses to try and get back into the game.
i will still only back blu-ray until there is a winner declared. I chose the format that had the superior specs.
MaX_PL said:does the A3 do 1080p natively? my parents are getting a new tv and i wanna hook em up with a good hd dvd player.
uh i thought hd dvd had the superior specs?
No, only 720p/1080i, the A30 does 1080p and can run 1080p/24 although it still runs 399.99 I think and I've heard that the real-world difference between the two on 1080p sets isn't huge, although haven't seen it personally (I only have a 720p set currently so not really relevent for me).MaX_PL said:does the A3 do 1080p natively? my parents are getting a new tv and i wanna hook em up with a good hd dvd player.

Anywhere I can download this and put them in my blu-ray case? It's offical, Japanese have the best box art, but now on movies.

HomerSimpson-Man said:Dammit, that's hot! I just got the trilogy set yesterday too! I really really didn't need to see this. Then again them Japanese folks must be paying an arm and a leg for such a set, home video prices are ridiculous over there for like one movie at nearly $50 at times let alone three.
