So his gaming platform of choice has to directly correlate with his high definition medium of choice? I see.

Gonna pick up Cars and Ratatouille tomorrow. I started buying blu-rays again last week with the spiderman trilogy, reign over me, and fantastic four 2:D

Picked this up the other day on Blu-ray.

The Choose Your Own Adventure style works wonderfully and makes it a real blast to watch the film multiple times. I managed to kill off everyone, including the main character, about midway thorugh the movie, ending it abruptly. Brought me back to my childhood reading all those CYOA books. :lol

Awesome.

The movie's fairly average, but these funky features elevate it to a level worth purchasing IMO.

look at his post history. he is either a joke, a viral marketer or a very sad person.

1) this post was highly inflamatory.

2) so is everything else he says.

i used to play on xbl with him and all he did was make fun of sony to the point of annoyance... now hes the same but switched sides.

I think this Cerebral Palsy is a different person than the other. The other guy gave his account away or something? Anyway, yeah. This one I can do without.

So, my friend up north canceled his Best Buy Business order for the A2 after learning that his Wal-Mart had 20 A2s in stock. Then he must have dropped the ball because they sold out before he got one.

Now he's without. And BBB would have upgraded him to an A3 with two additional free movies. *slaps forehead*

I'm trying to help him locate another player around here but they all seem to have gone missing.

As for myself, I think the next movie I'm looking forward to is Live free or Die Hard. But... I don't want any theatrical version on Blu-ray if the godforsaken DVD is going to have an unrated cut. What, really, is the excuse for this? One article I read said, "they didn't have time." Bullcrap!

+1 DVD sale, even though it may rape my eyeballs.

It seems that Fox may re-release this? Are they doing this crap for Mr. and Mrs. Smith as well? The BD coming out seems to be identical to the original DVD release, not the unrated release. Obviously there's room for the four commentaries and ALL the extras (in SD I think) that the unrated has.

Well I ended up deciding to get a HD-DVD player the A3 from Best Buy. With 10 Free movies it was to good of a deal to pass up. With the 5 Free DVDs by mail what would u guys recommend. Heres the list

Category A:
Aeon Flux
Babel
The Italian Job

Category B:
The Hulk
Pitch Black
The Thing

Category C:
Charlie and the Chocolate Factory
Swordfish
Full Metal Jacket

Category D:
Firewall
The Frighteners
U2: Rattle and Hum

Category E:
Black Rain
Darkman
Troy

Babel
The Thing (I like all three of those movies)
Full Metal Jacket
The Frighteners
Troy (I like all three of these also but Troy probably shows the format off the best)

Isn't Full Metal Jacket likely to be the shitty old transfer and not the new reissue?

I think so, but with the other two choices on the list, I would still have to pick it.

Any Canadians, Futureshop has an exclusive Ratatouille steelbook case. It's the DVD version so you'll have to buy the BD as well. I'm thinking of doing that because I really like this movie. It's pretty classy and the inside is nice. Reminds me of the FFXII CE steelbook (the last one I bought).

BTW this shit is going for double price on eBay.

http://www.futureshop.ca/catalog/proddetail.asp?sku_id=0665000FSM2141405&logon=L&langid=EN

Besides that, the lack of commentary sucks, especially with someone cool like Brad Bird.

getting annoyed at movietyme.com. They're usually so quick with preorders, often getting stuff to me before it streets in America. But these days all my ordres are stuck at 'preorder' (including ratattouile and cars). Hurry up!

Any Patlabor fans? I just got my hands on Patlabor 2 on Bluray ...it is fantastic. The audio is stunning....its totally incredible. I believe it is also out on HD-DVD. If you're a fan of this movie, and you've got some birthday money laying around, I'd HIGHLY recommend it.

you absolute fucking bastard. I'm a massive Patlabor fan. I was hoping this was a shit version as its really expensive.

Japanese import only? English subtitles?

You checked out Patlabor 1

but if I import that I might want to get Jin-Roh too. and I just spent nearly $400 on blurays for the Winter releases...

edit: $100 each for patlabor 1 and 2 from play-asia!!!!

Wonder if anyone can help? Im in the US visiting from England and was thinking of picking up a Toshiba A2 while im here but have a few questions if anyone would be able to answer

1. Is the player multi voltage so I will be able to plug it into uk power supply or will I need a step down?

2. I know that HD-DVD has no region protection but what about for regular DVD's will it play all region DVD's or if not is there a region hack for it.

Thanks for any help.

it'll only play region 1 DVDs. There is apparantly a region free firmware going around for the XE1 though.

not sure about the multivoltage thing.

Ughh, I wish Hi-def digest would review OldBoy already. I'd like to pick it up at work during lunch, but I wanna know if the transfer is good enough to warrant it. blarg.

The Oldboy regular DVD transfer is easily one of the best DVD transfers I have ever seen. So I would feel confident that Tartan will do right by the BRD too. If I had BRD player, I would pick up Oldboy without hesitation.

Thats what stinks about the "war". I have an HD DVD player, yet Oldboy is one of my favorite films, and I cannot get it on HD :(

Anyways, whenever I eventually get a PS3, Oldboy is likely to be my first BRD.

FYI, the annual DeepDiscount.com 20% off sale is happening 11/9 to 11/25. Use code DD1109. Good on HD DVDs and BRDs as well, but not on preorders. Try to order on the first day if possible - experience says they'll jack the prices a bit on popular items during the sale.

My BBFB order was just upgraded to an A3!!!! That's freaking sweet man, apparently the site got flooded with orders and is upgrading most of the people that they can't send a A2 to. So a brand new toshiba A3 for 99 bucks. Can't beat that at all man.

Awesome I think I might use this to pick up the Die Hard pack and Prison Break season 1.

Most of them. All Fox releases are region coded (in the US at least), as are most Disney ones and a few Sony ones.

Strangely it various depending on the country, so for example the region A Casino Royale and Spider-Man Trilogy are both region locked but the region B versions aren't. And Spider-Man came out here first, so it can't be to discourage importing.

In any case, it's one of my favourite features of HD DVD. I have a UK player but can continue to import with impunity, while with my US PS3 I can keep importing BDs but it pretty much rules out impulse buys in HMV or Virgin.

actually the situation being in the UK with a region A player is pretty good. Region coding seems mostly enforced for US titles, and then mostly for premiere releases. Even fox don't usually enforce on their catalogue stuff.

Just checked mine and it's been changed to an A3 too. It's still "In Process," but wow, way to man up to their sales. Best Buy just earned some serious points with me.

I wonder if this will have the two pack-in movies.

Thanks for that mrklaw will look into the firmware, not too bothered about it being region free have my PS3 for upscaling region 2 dvd's, just would be nice to be able to put all my disks in one player.

So anyone got hold of Ratatouille still waiting to hear if its A and B coded, just picked up Cars as that is reported as being playable in UK PS3's.

This is what I was wondering as well. It's already an incredible deal, but if they include the 2 pack in movies that's just insane! This will be my best purchase of the year by far. Such a great deal. Best buy just got a big thumbs up from me.

initial reports have it as 'region A' on the packaging.

Certainly better than having a region B player :D

Still, getting used to region coding is a pain coming from ~7 years of only having multiregion DVD players and then having HD DVD be completely region free.

BR is super easy to region cheat on the PC since the region lock is in the player software and not the hardware.

Wooo PC rocks! Stand alone players are lame :D

Darn! If it had English subs Id order it today.

thus the problem.

Amusingly enough, they would probably have sold more import copies to the US than they sold in Japan had it had subs.

VanMardigan

has calmed down a bit.
The Best Buy HD DVD stuff seems to be over. :(

And they're all out of A3s according to the website. Oh well, only a matter of time before the deal comes back.

Edit:

Amazon has a sale on these six HD DVD titles:

The Big Lebowski
12 Monkeys
Casino
Backdraft
Doom
Seabiscuit

$16.50 each
