i saw this story earlier and have been looking to see if other sites report that actual demos are going to be on the disk.

i could understand the dmc4 demo being on the disk since the game is coming out in feb but re5 is no where near ready (i think).

my guess would be it has the dmc 4 demo like the pre-order bonus games such as turok and R&C and a new trailer for RE5.
If you read the paragraph, it says it's part of the shared features coming from the SD DVD version, so they have to mean game trailers.

holy smokes. Hero is one of the most amazing beautiful films I have ever seen. Seeing this on HD might actually kill me from the visual thrill! OMG!

I'm not asking about other HD DVD movies with cool extras, I'm asking if any have used the web enabled features in a fashion that actually justifies their existence.

Well, to your first argument, you say you don't really care about them, so the fact that they don't take up space on the disc is presumably giving you a better feature.

As to web enabled features, 300 allows you to edit a version of the movie (like one where it doesn't have the politics crap) and share it online, or view other people's cut of the movie. I think that's pretty cool. Web enabled features on HD DVD have only been around since Freedom Vol. 1/300, so it's still a very young feature set. In time, I know there can be some cool stuff on it.

I am stuck on buying this or not??
I would asume it looks great being animation, but I haven't heard great things about the movie itself..enjoyed the last two though.

I loved 1 and 2, but the third one was a disappointment. Same as Spiderman 3 and PoTC 3. They just weren't as good as their predecessors, due to being bloated messes.

I'm still picking it up, mind you, because it should look stunning and it was still fun. I only have 2 animation movies on hi def, so this should fit in nicely.

I saw it in the theater. Despite the insanely feature rich HD-DVD release I still can't bring myself to buy it.

Sure, but on a 50GB disc you could put the extras on there without compromising the feature :)

I might have to check that out - I just went to the "web enabled features" tab on the 300 disc and only saw the thing where they were selling you ringtones...

My bestbuybusiness.com A3 just arrived (Xmas gift for parents), and they shipped it directly in its own box, and placed the shipping label in the worst possible place - right over the UPC sticker that I need for the 5-free-disc rebate. It seems impossible to peel off the shipping label without destroying the UPC label (I've tried).

Any suggestions?
Got mine today and my UPC is covered too.

Thanks gkrykewy for the head's up on the BBfB deal. I can't wait to get home and hook this thing up.

I was thinking about picking that up, but does HD really make a huge differance with hand drawn animation?worth the extra 10-15$ for HD?

I'll let someone else answer that as I have yet to invest in a HDTV, let alone either HD disc medium. That said, Paprika is a visually astonishing film and if it looks great on the big screen then I imagine it'll look great in HD, especially compared to plain ol' DVD. Will it be a showcase film like, by all accounts, Ratatoullie? Not sure, but I'm guessing it'll still be pretty kickass. Anyone who's actually, you know, seen 2D animation in HD care to comment?

I have Freedom Vol. 1, and I think it's worth the extra money. I haven't seen that particular film (paprika), but the stuff in Freedom is so much better in HD. Colors pop, and everything looks crisp. That film has both versions on one side on HD DVD, so I was able to compare.

Sure, but on a 50GB disc you could put the extras on there without compromising the feature :)

That makes no sense, unless you're assuming they'd use the same encode, in which case they'd be wasting space anyway. If it's on the disc, it's taking up space that could be used for the feature, whether the disc is 30GB, 50GB, or 100GB. So, if they can push it out, and it's stuff you don't care for anyway, then it's a good thing for you. Also keep in mind that there is a separate disc for special features, just like Spiderman 3. Was there a space issue on that movie as well?

All I'm saying is that you complain that it's useless, but you take a shot saying that it would've been on the disc on a Blu Ray. What's the point of complaining then?

there are still areas that can benefit from animation in HD. Deeper color saturation, elimination of edge enhancement (which still exists on TONS of DVD animation), 1080p24 for animation at 24fps, plus backgrounds are usually painted and often given a tremendous amount of detail by background artists, giving you at least a slight bit more of detail than the SD picture. And of course there are computer assisted parts of animation as well.. Appleseed and Steamboy being the two most prominent off the top of my head.

So in short, yeah... there are still areas that DVD can benefit by being in HD. Definitely not as profound as filmed or rendered content, but still an improvement over DVD.

It includes the best fight scenes I've ever watched.

His haircut looks strange in this flick. I haven't seen it.

But surely you can not say that the fights are better than the one in Oldboy or Ong-Bak?

You can queue things to download in the background Van, and after a while the PS3 will go into low power mode or if you have a psp you can do what I do and that is turn on your psp from work, log into your PS3 with your psp and start the downloads that way when you want to. ( and stream music or movies from your PS3 hd ) :D
I take my PSP with me to work on thursdays especially since it is the day we get PSN content, that way I can be pick what I want and start it downloading before I get home.

I hope it does go into low power mode, because I turned it on when I went to lunch so it can download the Ratchet demo. I have the PsP all set up with Remote Play (which is awesome), but there is no wifi here at work. I used it at home to play all my files on the PC through the Ps3 while I was in my bedroom, which is insanely cool.

Definitely better than Oldboy, and, yes, I'd give it an edge over Ong-Bak (although the most attractive thing to me in Ong-Bak was the stunts). I appreciate the grittiness of the fights in Oldboy and Ong-Bak, and while Fist of Legend is obviously more choreographed, I think it still features a lot of that "hardness" or whatever it is that makes those fights captivating. Some of the concepts are pretty true-to-life as well. As a fencer, I really enjoy watching the fighters use fake attacks and distance to get the upper hand.

I personally think Ratatouille is best release in terms of PQ but it is CG so it is unfair. If you are going to go for a non CG Blu Ray I would go for Planet Earth if you are willing to spend the money. It might not have the absolute best PQ but it is still the best package out.

My favorite-looking movies are Rataouille, 2001, and Casino Royale still looks great.

hey just curious if anyone picked this up today and if so, whats the verdict. I loved the movie. It was very close to beating out the first one, and totally shits on the crappy 2nd one. So I was hoping the BD lives up the name...

I was thinking of the giftset, but I already own O11, and I hated O12. plus the versions in the giftset do not vary from the single disc std dvd release.

It is a really bad movie, and I say this as someone who owns a number of these movies for unintentional comic value... It's even worse than this, which I was just reminded of for some reason:

Bit late but what blurays did you guys grab from the Amazon bogof offer? The only BD I have so far is 300 but I just ordered:

Fifth Element
Donnie Brasco
A Few Good Men
Layer Cake

and I'm tempted by Chicago and Apolcalyto.

Any others which are must buys? Tempted by Pirates but I just know they'll release an awesome boxset.

I'd just pick up both Pirates movies and then buy the third when it comes out in a month.

Isn't it only in like a collected whole 8 seconds of footage? It hasn't been fixed though, to answer your question.

8 minutes apparently, in other scenes there are framing differences but not to the extent that the star's head is cut off. Think I will wait due to this as well as my fetish for boxsets, I'm more interested in owning awesome copies of them than watching them again in HD.

As for Hero, style over substance imo. Awesome visually but found the whole film boring, tried too hard to be great and never came close, just came across as pretentious and irritating. Greatness is not so easy to come by!

RaidenZR said:

Exactly.
I admit that it I am not happy about it but it is seriously barely even 8 seconds.
And even that is only the first movie.

I would imagine that they will have them fixed for a boxed collection down the line.

No, I think it is more along the lines of "Gaf are not typical americans who have never seen good asian films and drool over every whatever they are spoon fed"

Anyway this is not a place for this debate.
I actually think there was a whole thread for it not terribly long ago.

Actually there is nothing even close to similar between them.
The Bride with White Hair is a romeo and juliet type story about love, betrayal and promises with great action mixed in.
