No offense but main event is now on the ignore list.
Someone tell me if he actually starts taking part in the discussions at all instead of just posting random link crap.

I'm not going to take part of discussions that's been discussed to death a hundred times already since last years. This thread has been circling around the same arguments way too many times already (can't really avoid it I guess, with so many new people popping up in this thread).

Keep ignoring me, I'll just watch my movies and post quick news, thank you.

Still with the combo discs eh?
I thought they were going to end that by the end of the year and rerelease them.
Why continue making them?

Or is it just Warner that would stop?

Universal will continue the combo format.

Warner will stop beginning 2008. Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix will be their last combo format title for the year.

I hated the
cop 'twist' towards the end
ruined it for me otherwise it was enjoyable. Debating whether I should get it.

Was the pre-friday number tease released yet?

Paramount/DreamWorks' "Transformers" remained at the top of the HD DVD sales chart, while "Ratatouille" was at No. 1 on the Blu-ray Disc chart. Both titles are only available on those high-definition formats.

Slightly interesting to see Ratatouille as the #1 movie. Either it did extremely well, or Spider-man took a large drop.

The thing you have to remember, Spiderman 3 comes with every 40gb PS3.
I honestly expect 123 to be Rat, Cars, Spidey ( or Rat, Spidey, Cars)

In the end, I’m incredibly torn on this first Star Trek appearance on high definition home video. It’s so close to perfection, yet the obvious anti-Blu-ray decision to make it a Combo Format release detracts from the pure high definition package – in terms of content placement/navigation, number of discs, and absurd pricing. I’m not advocating Blu-ray in any respect with that statement as I remain 100% format neutral both professionally and personally. Even with the HD DVD exclusive announcement, Paramount could have released a separate HD DVD-only set on fewer discs for fewer dollars. Instead, many prospective buyers will be crossing their fingers, toes, and everything in-between hoping retailers run some equally absurd holiday sales.

Cheers:
# Wonderful restoration that respects source material
# New (old) score sounds great
# CGI blends beautifully
# Picture-in-picture worth viewing

Jeers:
# Pricing is atrocious
# Combo Format = bad for consumer
# Flip discs for standard def extras
# Inner plastic case too flimsy

Movie 9.0
Video 8.5
Audio 9.0
Extras 9.5
Replay 9.0

Overall:
9.0

Yes! Now I'm glad I didn't get them during the CC sale, this is even cheaper :)

When is Reign Over Me gonna join these deals :( :(

Edit: Damn, in-store pickup isn't working for some reason. Guess I'll have to wait for tomorrow.

I feel bad for Star Trek fans who are not involved in the High Def formats yet because they are getting bent over big time with this set.
Releasing it ONLY on combo is a little shadey to me but hell Trekkies will pay hundreds of dollars for little statues so it is not so bad.

Trek dvd sets have always been really expensive. This one's not even out of the ordinary for an initial release. I really doubt the cost of the hd-dvds themselves are substantially factoring into the price.

Ya, I spent a 120 dollars each for DS9 season 5, 6 and 7 when they were released here in Canada. Isn't the complete TNG series set like over 300 dollars too?

$300 for the full series is a deal which used to be $125 CAD per season. :(

Yeah. This isn't even the highest I've seen. When TNG sets first came out they were bordering on $200cdn. Of course, the dollar was different then, so americans might have a different perspective on this. But it was still 4 times as much as most season sets. So... yeah, not surprising to me.

I picked up:
The Day After Tomorrow
Alien Vs Predator

Always wanted those in high-def, but refused to pay Fox's exorbitant prices!

God damn Frys has sold out of almost everything 19.99 and under before I got around to ordering.
That is what I get for keeping things in my cart and being indecisive.

I'm getting real tired of waiting for the Kubrick Blu-Ray's in Canada? Where the hell are they and why do all the stores have HD-DVD copies but not the BR. Did they not realize it was on BRD as well and forgot to order. Fuck.

On futureshop.com they have a release date of nov 20th, so they appear to just not be out yet. I really don't know why that'd be the case, but it seems to be.

2001 on hd-dvd is still impossible to find from a canadian retailer, too.

I STILL never will understand the Tivo thing.
As far as I understand every cable and satelite provider has dvr service available cheaper than Tivo.
How does it still sell?

1) no monthly surcharge from cable/satellite provider
2) retention after cable/satellite cancellation

those things matter to some people

1) I pay ( well if I paid for it ) 6.95 a month for it, isn't tivo 9.95?
2) Very valid point

3) Very likely better UI. At least at some point, tivo was considered to have a better one than proprietary boxes. Dunno if that's still true.

Not the best camera, not the best lighting, and bad angles in general, but they clearly show two things:

1. Ps3 has better dvd upscaling than Xbox 360

2. Spiderman 3 and Transformers look stunning.

Both of which we already knew. :p

I could probably find better pics of both, but I'm going to sleep.

It's still very much true. The Microsoft UI, in comparison, is large steaming pile of canine fecal matter. I literally know nobody that likes it.

Plus, if you have multiple networked TiVos, you can send programs between the boxes, as well as download the programs to my local machine. I have a external drive full of HD programming. I may pay a couple bucks more for the Tivo, but it's more than worth it.

I'm jealous of PS3's upscaling, but that's not really a fair fight unless you've got an HDMI 360. I don't, but fortunately my new A3 upscales admirably.

God-fucking-damn it. The only place that ever has any HD-DVD promotions worth a shit, and there isn't one for a hundred miles here.

I just price-matched Kingdom of Heaven from Fry's at Best Buy. Can't beat that for $13.99. The cashier was stunned that it went down from that $34.99 sticker price. :lol

And that Zodiac cover is really frickin' cool.

When TOS originally came out on DVD, it was two episodes per volume. If memory serves, season one is 29 episodes. That means that season one was about $300 list, and $200 street price at discount stores.
