HD DVD owner here courtesy of the 360. I did plan on getting a PS3 for Blu but its strength as a game machine is not as strong to justify a $399 investment for just mainly a Blu Ray machine. Once Sony drops their Blu ray players around $199 I'll go neutral. Hurry up please I want to see Pirates in HD :D

HD-DVD only owner here, but I don't care which format wins, but how can any reasonable person try to spin this towards HD's favor?

Who's trying to? I'm just depressed about the sales volume during the biggest sales week of the year.

Logic for those who aren't following the thread so closely:

BR sales > HD-DVD sales = HD-DVD winning
Warner BR sales > Warner HD-DVD sales = Warner HD-DVD exclusive
BR since inception sales > HD-DVD since inception sales = HD-DVD winning
BR standalone sales > HD-DVD standalone sales = HD-DVD winning
7/10 BR sales on Thanksgiving > Transformers and Shrek 3 HD-DVD sales on Thanksgiving = HD-DVD winning
$399 BR players > $99 HD-DVD players = HD-DVD momentum
BR winning worldwide > HD-DVD losing worldwide = HD-DVD winning

BR becoming the new HDM standard > HD-DVD dying off = I was neutral anyways / I still have all my movies / I don't care.

Pot, meet kettle.

I am glad the fact that BR is winning this war; the DVD series is just plain boring as of the fact it is a waste of our precious time!

I am good talking you today. Enjoy!

guys, trust me, warner is not going to go blu-ray exclusive until hd-dvd standalones stop selling

the guy running the show there, named parsons or something, thinks that ps3 is not as effective a blu-ray player as ps2 was a dvd player

if hd-dvd sells more standalones yet 7 out of 10 high-def movies sold in thanksgiving week were blu-ray, then how do you manage to tell me that the ps3 is not effective?

what a joke.

Clearly the PS3 not being effective is demonstrated by these sales. Clearly.

edit: Parsons is leaving Time-Warner at the end of the year.

Jeff Bewkes will be new CEO.

Analysts say Bewkes, who graduated from Yale and has an MBA from Stanford, combines financial savvy with a knack for managing creative talent.

Oppenheimer's Eagan said Bewkes is results-driven and will look closely at the financials of Time Warner's publishing and Internet units before taking any action.

I hope he is looking at results.

Woo! My five free Blurays finally shipped! :D
It's been like three months. Surprisingly, the page says Babel shipped, but I had heard people were getting Xmen 3 instead.

It also says I'm getting Stealth instead of Resi 2 :(

With the Profile 1.1 players out, those looking to get into Blu-ray will have an alternative. Unless you count the new Panasonic BD30, there is really no reason to invest in a Blu-ray standalone. It also does not mean that those who own the PS3 should automatically be labled "gamers". There are many people who own the PS3 as a "stop gap" to when 1.1 and 2.0 players are out.

Well, I'll be at CES to announce any awesomness that comes our way. :D

I'm going for work, and it'll be my first time at CES. AND I'm going on Microsoft's dime. I'm probably more excited than I should be.

of all the companies that could actually afford to be multiplatform, it's GE. their stockholders need to stop being cheap asses

Wow, Wild Hogz was horrible. Who was it here that was defending it? captive?

At least it looked decent, with all the desert vistas while they're riding.

And that Passion of the Christ cover.........has that title been announced?

It was the Toshiba A2 that was $99, right? Are they permanent 99 or was it just a sell? There is one close to me and it's asking for $247 online, but they have it instore.

It was just a clearance, the new A3 model is $199 with at least 7 movies, so don't bother paying that much for an A2.

I know there's some stigma attached to game systems as media players, but the PS3 is a seriously slick machine-- I can't imagine wanting to replace it.

Just bought band of brothers on Hd-dvd...150 bucks.. (someone make fun of me in a year or so when this hits hd-dvd in America)

I will be going purple as soon as i find all my hd-dvd purchases :). One more gen for these Blu-ray players as im not satisfied with the whole different profile thing.

Another Walmart secret sale coming on 12/7.
Both sides will be covered in it this time.
Blu : PS3 40gb get an instant $50 gift card
HD : A30 with free movies (most likely 10 like the black friday PS3) (Only 25k units being shipped to the stores for this sale so it is assumed to be normal price + the movies)

Also this is not big news for many but I am glad...
Opus Arte will start releasing on blu in February.
They do Opera and Ballet releases, they have a couple out on hd-dvd.

Cheap HD-DVD/Blu-Ray aren't nearly as important as they were with DVD because of the high price of HDTVs.

I'm calling whichever format gets Open Water first will win.

Anyone notice this ad in the nextbook mag?

Yeah, a friend of mine in the CE business (no dog in the BRD/HD DVD for his company though) sent that to me. It's making the rounds in his circles and is getting some pretty big laughs.

So is this one, which he also sent. It's the (very fake) response ad from the HD DVD group:

Cruel. :lol

[EDIT] Crap. I forgot to ask the question I came in here for...

Anybody get Paprika on Blu-ray yet? Impressions?

is DeepDiscount.com having any more promotions? I'm about to unload well over $100 on some Blu-Ray titles.

Already have it for a few months. It's been out in Europe for a while. PQ is really good. Pretty what you would expect from animation. I wouldn't expect alot of "pop" but it's nice to see in HD without any DVD artifacting.

i think i'll start netflixing.

What I usually do is go through the review section at high def digest and see what movies are out. That's how I loaded up on Blu Ray movies that I'd missed being HD DVD only. Then every monday I update with the new releases for that week on both formats, unless I plan to buy any of them.
