well i just went out and bought Transformers HD DVD but i honestly dont know how this format will survive.

some fatass guy there was buying 4 or 5 blurays for his PS3 which made me hesitant about my purchase. add to that the fact that my stupid cousins mentioned Bluray first when asked about HD movies, plus a girl at school did the same, it just seems HD DVD is not gonna win this.

while at bestbuy getting my movie a guy was buying an HD A2 i believe, so thats good.

So fatasses and stupid cousins buy Blu-ray, awesome MaX_PL buys HD DVD? :rolleyes

You do realize that there is an hd-dvd version of bluray.com which is even more asinine don't you not to mention Amir and the "neutral" avsforum.

anyone here anything about Kill Bill going to an HD format, or miramax in general?

There have been a few Miramax films released on Blu-ray, since it's a Disney company. Chicago is the one that comes to mind at the moment.

I invite you to go out and listen to some seperates VS any receiver. They sound totally different.

I never said anything about cables...but okay.

130 watts a receiver is not 130 watts.
I could get a amp that has 50 watts which would lay waste.

Naim for example:

Yeah, pretty much the rest of the year is going to beat the unholy hell out of hd.
This week that is just finishing is their best chance to win a week though I do not see it happening.

Cast Away better be a good transfer. I sold my DVD a while back in anticipation of this release.

Don't fuck with me, Wilson.

Woo-hoo! Got my 5 free Blu-ray's, and they even sent the new version of Full Metal Jacket. Anyhow, I only kept that and American Psycho, and the rest got excused.

Total time: 8 weeks.

My purchases this month:

HD DVD

The Bourne Ultimatum
Battlestar Galactica
Eastern Promises
Pan's Labyrinth

*Maybes:
The Kingdom
Sunrise Earth
Stardust

Blu-ray

Superbad
Simpsons: The Movie

*Maybe:
PotC 3 (Thought the 2nd wasn't really good, will probably wait for another BOGO Disney movie to get it)

I am keeping an eye on the sunrise earth, just want to see which ones are on.
I think it is just american ones which I didn't find very special.
Stonehenge, Shanghai Harbor and others are the ones I want.

Just to head off any drama knowing how things can get, I will point out that it seems some copies of Pirates of the Caribbean: At World's End have a misprint on the slipcase that says 1080i.

Some pre damage control? Good boy.

On another note, I'm hoping for at least one more BOGO on either format before the year is out. There's some stuff on both sides that I need, but none of the Fox movies at Fry's fit the bill.

Hmm, Eastern Promises is HD-DVD only, too bad. Not a "system seller" at all, but I would get it on Blu-Ray. Their loss I guess. Getting it just for that one scene is worth it :lol

I don't know if I want the Simpsons movie, I had genuine laughter throughout, but it wasn't like "OMG this is a classic". Depends on the extras I guess.

Eastern Promises has to be my personal pick for letdown of the year, followed by No Country For Old Men.

Oh wow, Cronenberg, Viggo Mortensen's cock flopping around in a sauna fight. How remarkably edgy.

4 out of 5 stars - The Movie Itself (has an average rating of 7.6 on IMDb)
5 out of 5 stars - Video Quality (1080p in VC-1 on a 30gb)
5 out of 5 stars - Audio Quality (Dolby TrueHD & Digital Plus 5.1)
5 out of 5 stars - Bonus Materials (include “In-Movie Experience“)

The only thing missing here is the “A&E Documentary: The Hidden Secrets of Harry Potter” which is included on both the DVD and Blu-ray Disc versions of the film. I guess they had to give Blu-ray some sort of exclusive content or couldn’t fit this on the 30 gigabyte HD DVD. Either way the bonus materials are extremely impressive. The “In-Movie Experience” proves to be very informative and entertaining. The “Magic of Edition” interactive feature is pretty impressive. The new “web-enabled features” like “pick your favorite scene” and the “live community screening” are extremely breakthrough. This is totally worth “5 Stars,” especially to die-hard “Potter” fans.

DVDTOWN.com rates this HD DVD:

Video 10
Audio 10
Extras 7
Film value 6

Why is it that HD-DVD seems to have the better exclusives? Does Blu-Ray even have exclusives (outside of Sony stuff)?

y'all should be ashamed

Heh...actually, BD corners the market on exclusives. Fox, Disney, Sony, Lionsgate and a host of other companies are exclusive to BD. Paramount and Universal are HD-DVD. Warner is neutral.

Disney and Fox. Its all personal preferences. I do prefer my HD DVD exclusive movies over the Blu Ray ones though.

HD-DVD had a better year IMO of quality exclusive, but BR definetly had more big name blockbuster exclusives. Eastern Promises is a nice exclusive, but it is not going to sell the format like a SpiderMan will.

What in the nine hells are you spewing?
Wow...
Must be some kind of magical mystery hd-dvd releases that slipped out without the rest of the world seeing

No one posts at the hddvd.com version of bluray.com and AVS finally eliminated all the riff raff. Bluray.com is full of fanboys with taglines such as "The only good HD DVD supporter is a dead HD DVD supporter" or the infamous "Blu Bloods".:lol They take this shit way more serious than any other group I have ever seen.

So are you big enough of a fan to rebuy the whole 7 movies in a similar collectors edition on Blu-ray, a couple years from now... when there is no HD-DVD version left to buy? :p

Then leave it over there. Things are a lot stricter here.

Let's wait until that actually happens to start poking that particular hornet's nest, okay?

The Fly is a better Cronenberg flick and it's Blu-ray exclusive (though I'm not saying Eastern Promises isn't awesome.) But yeah, for the most part, the "better" exclusives thing is a personal preference.

Is there any word of Lost Seasons 1 & 2 coming to Blu-Ray anytime soon?
I believe season 1 is already out.

Do people watch TV seasons more than once? Not miniseries like Band of Brothers, but full-fledged TV seasons. I have all the Sopranos on DVD and I haven't touched them after watching them once (fucking expensive too...)

Was anyone here crazy and rich enough to pick up Jin-Roh on bluray? I'd love to read some impressions on the pq.
I searched and found this nice review (take the scores how you want, he has comparison pictures).

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film2/DVDReviews33/Jin-Roh_blu-ray.htm

With all the extras (a FAT Japanese storyboard book plus a small booklet), but no extras on disc (besides trailer), I'm not sure. Is Bandai even going to double dip assuming BD becomes the next standard?

Just checked, no dice. :(

I do watch TV seasons more than once, but it really depends which show it is. For Lost, it is a definite YES.

I watched Cars tonight and that was probably the best looking HD CG disc I've seen. Looked incredible :O

Also Amazon just e-mailed me that the Bourne deal they were running for all 3 movies at 50% when #3 comes out on HD-DVD has been delayed until mid-January for shipping. Did #3 get delayed or is Amazon just being out of stock like always lately?

Outdoor Miner said:

Doesn't actually exist yet it seems....

I mean the disc does exist in the Japanese set, and there's a review of the Japanese version at animeondvd.com and the US disc should be identical, but my order at Rightstuf.com is still waiting for them to receive the discs from Bandai Visual. :(

Did Advent Children Blu-ray really come out in JPN on the 28?
according to wikipedia:
At the Tokyo Game Show 2006, Square Enix showed a trailer of a director's cut of the movie, titled Final Fantasy VII Advent Children Complete for release on the Blu-ray disc format. New scenes will be added to the movie, including one where Sephiroth impales Cloud with his sword and then lifts his body up into the air. The movie will also benefit from high-definition video and audio that the Blu-ray format offers. However, only a Japanese release has been confirmed so far, but is likely to be released elsewhere if the popularity of the Blu-ray format continues to grow. The cut had formerly been expected to be released in mid 2007, however, Square Enix announced at the Tokyo Game Show 2007 that they would postpone the product until 2008.[2]
hmm, too bad.

Why would he if his HD DVD would still work? It's not like they will re-call HD DVD players in the future.
