They have get out clauses though. Spielberg films are a lock down to, if they are ever released they will be dual-format.
When Warner and Paramount left HD-DVD exclusivity back in 2005, Paramount pre-empted the Warner announcement after finding out Parsons wanted to be on the BDA. They do tend to follow what Warner will do. I'd guess they'd make their next decision based on what Warner do.
All eyes on Warner.

OokieSpookie said:Mainly because if Warner picks a side it can in theory end this whole thing.
Warner on one hand has said that they have no plans to stop supporting both, but in other statements have said that they will soon have to make a decision.
So it is kind of a hear say mess.

Forsete said:I would say choosing Blu would probably end it pretty quickly.. but if they would go HD-DVD the split would become something like 50/50, extending this shit even longer.
OokieSpookie said:If they went red I believe that you would say a sizable increase in those that go purple as it were.
No end, but essentially giving up on ever having one winner.
If they go blu it would have a very strong chance of finally ending this mess because it is believed by many that Weinstein will go where Warner goes and when Paramount's deal ends they would definitely at minimum go neutral again.

Robocop!
The good ol' BAIL OUT clausemrklaw said:more than that IMO. If Warner went bluray exclusive and the numbers started looking really bad for HDDVD, I'd hope Paramount would have a suitable exit clause from their deal and for them to switch just as quickly as they did this time round.

on the topic of blu rays players, id like to vent my anger towards sony for dropping the ball on dts-hd support, every new player has bitstream capability now and for them to not at least include bitstreaming is a joke. i want to buy another player for my theater since im ordering the denon 3808CI, but the samsung 1400 isnt 1.1 nad thats the best deal out there. im hoping the samsung 5000 dual player that releases in mid january will at least support the bistreaming of HBR codecs but jesus this is getting ridiculous
As Sony's flagship player the PS3 should be at least a 1.1 player with the ability to decode on board DTS-HD master audio. if the cell prcessor cant do it, id hate to see how expensive standalones that can will be.there is no excuse f seeing as how fox has supported this codec since day one
ps. fight club makes me moist in the pants
Cdammen said:Please Warner go blue... make this shit end. Fuck this format war. It's no fun for the consumers.
the larry david sandwich said:2.0 was a perfect opportunity for sony to really impress me and i felt let down as everything implemented revolved around gaming. the ps3 is no longer the best blu ray player on the market, sure its the best overall package, but dts-hd is a huge deal for alot of people myself included
the larry david sandwich said:ideally id like for the ps3 to get internal decoding so i can just snag a 40 gig. one in the theater and one up stairs, i figure for the cost i might as well get another game player as well as sacd support.
Naked Snake said:I'm glad to not have bought Fight Club on DVD, cause I can buy it on bluray now without feeling guilty for buying a movie I already have
B1: yes. yes they did.VanMardigan said:Didn't they drop sacd support from the 40 gig?? One of the reasons I bit the bullet and picked up an 80GB Ps3 was my fear of them continually stripping features to get the price down. A necessity for them, but sucks for me.
As far as profile 2.0, isn't that web enabled support? No reason why the Ps3 shouldn't be able to do it, considering how even the low end HD DVD players support it.
edit:
speaking of which, I'm willing to try out an sacd. I never bothered with either dvda/sacd, but now that I have a player by default, I'd love to try it out. Can the audio be passed through optical? What are my requirements on the receiver end? Is sacd really a big step up, even from well done concert dvd's in DD 5.1?
NR1 said:Sorry if its old, but I didn't see it post in the last 3 pages...
The guy that posted it says it came from Empire magazine in the UK.
Ghostbusters!! Hell yea! GB2 better be released right beside it too.
I've never seen Fight Club, but I hear great things about it, so I will have the check tat out then.

thats highly debatablesooperkool said:maybe not necessary but good seperates allow you to focus individua components for better sound overall.
