Hmm, Eastern Promises is HD-DVD only, too bad. Not a "system seller" at all, but I would get it on Blu-Ray.
Could not agree with you more. Everything you say is cutting edge logic, like Occam's Razor. Wake up and smell the fucking Violets, Universal. At least go purple, shit.

Decado said:
Why is it that HD-DVD seems to have the better exclusives?
I see your point.

For as many exclusive studios Blu-ray has, it does not have Serenity, Jet Li's Fearless, V for Vendetta, Lucky Number Slevin, Transformers, and all the other movies I actually care about. But then again, the ones you lose are the ones you care about.

I searched and found this nice review (take the scores how you want, he has comparison pictures).

With all the extras (a FAT Japanese storyboard book plus a small booklet), but no extras on disc (besides trailer), I'm not sure. Is Bandai even going to double dip assuming BD becomes the next standard?

Thanks a ton for that link.

Those screen caps look effing sweet. This is one of my fav animes of all time, but I can't allow rapage of my wallet for what equates to an $80 barebones disc. :(

So are you big enough of a fan to rebuy the whole 7 movies in a similar collectors edition on Blu-ray, a couple years from now... when there is no HD-DVD version left to buy? :p
why would it matter if I will have an HD-DVD as well as a Blu-ray?
EDIT: I misread, yes, I would.:p
I have all the DVDs so far.

What other anime (if any) has been released on bluray?

Byt the way, Jin-Roh is the only DVD I own which I still haven't watched.

Thanks for the list. Nothing on the US list that interests me, some of it might be but I don't know most of these titles, kinda stopped watching anime a few years back... Any news about Studio Ghibli stuff in HD?

There's some kind of documentary type thing coming out, but none of the films yet.

My Toshiba HD-A2 downcoverts the new audio formats (like Dolby True HD or DD+) to DTS when using the optical output. Does the PS3 or any standalone Blu-ray player do this?

I know, I know, I should just get a new receiver, but for now I'd like to just be able to use my current one.

Utawarerumono was fantastic (despite the cliched ending/premise). If the cost was reasonable, video quality good and the English subs were good, I'd buy a blu-ray box set.

which is why its good to have universal. one reason why bluray doesnt appeal to me is because their main exclusives seem to be disney movies, and HD isnt necessary for cartoons.

WTF? HD is at its best when displaying CG cartoons. Even more traditional animation like The Simpsons Movie looks 1000% better in HD.

Get both. There is no war when you have both.

mini-rant: Took Rescue Dawn back to Hollywood Video store this morning. Had to wait more than a full minute for my Pioneer standalone to eject the disk. Why does the eject mechanism need to wait for the OS to boot?

On the flipside, cartoons also scale the best when being upconverted.

I ask myself that every time I turn my A2 on (which hasn't been often lately, my Netflix queue is pretty stale...)

I leave my A2 on all the time now for that reason. I'll have to use my Kill-A-Watt meter to see what the increased power usage is.

I am going to leave the Blu Ray player on. Surely that could be fixed with a firmware update. On all those minute-ey systems.

I hate to get dragged into list wars crap, but anyone who says BD's main exclusives are cartoons is either not even looking or full of shit. As far as action flicks, there's the Die Hard films, Robocop, Apocalypto, Speed, Crank, Casino Royale, etc. Cartoons my ass.

I know there has been alot of import talk on here and I came across an image which might help some blu fans.

I imported The Prestige for HD.:D :lol
But seriously though, most people don't import and give a shit.

Where were you three days ago when the HD-DVD import fury started?

Anyway, don't knock it. We aren't talking about "most people"-- these posts are a service to people here.

I started the import fury and I wish I hadn't. It was an honest question that I knew would turn into a stupid flame war, but whatever.
