wait, what? what kind of error gives you a box set that expensive for free?

it did not scan because my reward zone card froze the system for a few seconds and the cashier never noticed (or if he did he did not care).

1080p is mostly hype.

Yes you will notice a difference.

Uh, that completely depends on screen size. I have a 61" screen and you can bet that I'm glad I'm running things at 1080p rather than 720p.

Thinking about getting a Blu-Ray player. Should I wait until I have a 1080p set, or will I notice enough of a difference over my upconvert DVD player at 720p?

Yeah you will notice a big difference. Allot of people will tell you 480>720p is a bigger jump than 720p>1080p... but those people tend to have 720p sets :lol

No reason not to get a player now though. I would probably wait till the next version or whatever though (or get a PS3 so it will update) Up converted DVDs are nice, but there really is no comparison to a good blu-ray or hd-dvd.

I had something like that happen (age verification warning froze the scanning) but the cashier made sure he scanned everything before hitting total.

1080p is not hype. im running a 106 inch and its very noticable, also with the ability to do 1080p/24 judder is eliminated

At that size, I'd say 1080p is almost insufficient! I think the benefits are negligible at smaller screen sizes, say less than 50", unless you sit unusually close to the screen.

well there have been advancements in the 4k at home theater level. but right now the cost, bandwidth and sheer storage size eliminate that possibility..

in the end 1080p/24 and lossless audio is all i care about.

People buy porn?

Some numbers :
- 11 000 porn movies were product in 2000 in USA.
- In France, porn vidéo is about 40% of the whole vidéo sales

So, I think, yes, people buy porn in mass... :lol

Michael Bay's view :
What you don't understand is corporate politics. Microsoft wants both formats to fail so they can be heroes and make the world move to digital downloads. That is the dirty secret no one is talking about. That is why Microsoft is handing out $100 million dollar checks to studios just embrace the HD DVD and not the leading, and superior Blu Ray. They want confusion in the market until they perfect the digital downloads. Time will tell and you will see the truth.

I just bought Corpse Bride and Blood Diamond on that list along with
Training Day and Purple Rain. It came out to 32.00 for all 4 movies with BN discount so great deal for me and should be getting them in 2 days with my Prime.

Why aren't HD-DVD camps having these BOGO sales? I would stock up on them if I was given a chance. That and all these high priced combo discs are preventing me from buying more HD-DVD movies.

Sony is subsidizing the deal for WB/ebay so they dont lose anything on the BOGO offers.

HDDVD group seems to be using their money to get hardware prices down and pay for exclusives (studios/individual movies).

Which is also why Toshiba is talking all about stand alone sales and BRD is talking all about software sales. They are trying to talk up their strategy as being the "right one", meanwhile both are throwing money at their strategy to artificially inflate it.

You must have missed a memo.
Toshiba has dropped the stand alone thing so that they can use the 360 add on to pad their numbers.
The new catch phrase is "dedicated" players.

makes sense. HDDVD only has Toshiba as the manufacturer, so there is nobody but themselves to piss off if they cut the hardware prices.

However with Bluray, if Sony cut hardware prices aggressively, they risk pissing off many other manufacturers. So they are going the software route, which enourages people to buy the (relatively) expensive players which is good for BDA CE partners.

Where is the cost benefit that HD-DVD was suppose to have over blueray? We sure aren't seeing it in the disc prices so far. If Toshiba really wanted to get serious they would pay off Warner to get them to HD-DVD exclusive camp and make sure all discs are below $20 to drive up sales.

yeah, but logically if you are going to buy into "stand alone" players arguement, the HDDVD drive is essentially the same thing. You have to go out of your way to buy it unlike a PS3 owner who might now even know the PS3 has it. FWIW I allways thought they counted the add on as part of the standalones for that reason.

you have to remember, a big part of the reason that companies moved to the HDM realm was for increased prices of movies. The combo movies cost more to make, but more importantly the movie studios see them as a way to justify premium pricing.

What Mr. Bay doesn't know is the secret reason the digital download business is all divided up into multiple sites (iTunes, Hulu, XBLM, etc.) with no single source for all studios and networks. It's all part of a vast conspiracy to destroy digital delivery and push the consumer towards disc.

360 HD DVD player $129 at Toys R Us

+ tax, +$9 shipping. Qualifies for the 5 free discs, of course. Not sure if this is also in-store or not. Could also be the beginnings of an MSRP drop.

Damn, I was waiting for something like this to come along. Too bad I just spent 1500 bucks on a new tv and stand. Add in my utilities and presents I have to buy for Christmas =I have no free cash.

It looks freaking amazing and the last half is unbelievable with the sound cranked.
I have to be one of the only people who loved the movie :lol
Wait...considering there were about 20-30 people at a midnight opening at Moviestop for it maybe I am not.
(I will say I am pissed about the misprint though)

well you cant blame microsoft. they do have an interest in digital downloads and they'll do whatever they can to further that interest.
its up to sony and the rest to fight just as dirty to further their interest.

I'm not so sure Sony subsidized Disney. Disney seems pretty gung-ho about Blu-- unless SOny is propping up all of their efforts.

the word on the street is they are getting money. On top of that they are the one that wouldnt deny getting paid to be BRD exclusive back when the paramount thing happened.

Doesnt mean they are being paid, but we'll never get a solid confirmation on that.

I'm fairly certain that it's 100% Jobs. God knows Eisner would be selling out as hard as he possibly could, but Jobs has a vendetta and will pursue it to the end.

I only meant the BOGO Disney deal being subsidized. I think the roadshow shows they have some personal investment. But I'm sure Disney is getting some for of payoff.
