What delay?

There's a delay message on Amazon for the 5 disc version of The Final Cut on Blu-ray.

Production Delay: Due to production and shipment delays from the studio impacting all retailers, this title will not be available to ship by the street date indicated above. We are working with the studio to get this product in stock as quickly as possible. We apologize for any inconvenience.

I pre-ordered on the 10th, so hopefully I get it.

kind of a weird question but if I try and rent Fifth Element Blu-Ray how will I know if I'm getting the recently remastered version? Is there some kind of marking on the disc?

The bottom text, "Experience High Definition," will be a foil silver on the remastered version instead of matte.

Blade Runner 3 Blu 2 DVD

Workprint is 110 mins

Final cut has Dolby TrueHD 5.1, other versions have Dolby Digital 5.1

Disc 1-Final Cut
Disc 2-Dangerous Days (DVD)
Disc 3-US, International Theatrical, and Director's Cut
Disc 4- Enhancement Archive (DVD)
Disc 5- Workprint

Does anyone know if HD-DVD gets the same in terms of sound?

Dissapointing that PCM was not utilized for the Blu.

Bourne Supremacy and I Know Pronouce You for $32.61 and both are the HD/DVD combo. Not bad :D Best Buy's 2 for 1 deal.

Yeah, I was holding off on buying Bourne: Ult until after the holidays but this was too good to pass up so I ended up getting that with Shrek 3. Good deal.

I read on gizmodo that the entire Bourne Trilogy is going to be offered with the Xbox 360 HD DVD drive tomorrow. That's along with King Kong and the 5 free movie deal.

There will be no shortages of add ons for Craigslist and Ebay for the holidays now, that is for sure.

Yeah, it's a pretty sweet movie deal if you can offload the add-on for $70-$80 or so afterwards (provided you already have a player.

I'm trying to figure out what's the "issue" with the 1080i Toshibas. Is it that 1080i isn't HD? Is it that folks with 1080p tv's aren't getting a 1080p signal even though they are because their tv is deinterlacing it? What do you want me to address about that?

The issue is that they don't have 1080p, much less 1080p24 support, which the vast majority of Blu-ray players support (for 1080p, 100%, for 1080p24, probably 90%), but only a minority of HD DVD players support (only A20/XA2/A30/A35, if I have my model #'s right for 1080p24, and the Xbox add-on will do 1080p).

On the other hand, once this FW update hits, the vast majority of Blu-ray players will suddenly be 1.1 compliant.

HIGH-DEF DIGEST

UPDATE: Readers are reporting seeing this player priced at just $279 at Costco. Thus far we've been unable to definitively confirm these reports.

The latest in a series of price drops for high-def players on both side of the aisle, several retailers have dropped their prices on Sony's BDP-S300 to record-low levels.

The player, which carries a $399 MSRP, is now being sold by Best Buy and Circuit City for just $299. At press time, Amazon.com was offering the player for just $294.

This new price drop comes only a week after the same retailers dropped their prices on Samsung's BDP-1400 Blu-ray player to similar levels (by mid-week, Amazon was selling that model for $270, setting a new low-price record for a Blu-ray player).

According to DisplaySearch data released late last week, Sony led sales of standalone Blu-ray players as of late November by a wide margin, capturing a full 60% of all BD unit sales, followed by Samsung with 37%.

The Sony price reduction would seem to contradict earlier statements by execs at the company, who -- as recently as last month -- said they didn't expect their BD hardware to decline much lower than the $400 level through the holiday season.

To discuss these and other next-gen hardware and software deals, visit the Blu-ray Bargains or the HD DVD Bargains areas in our forums.

(Thanks to everyone who sent in tips related to this story.)

I'll be keeping my eye on those. I can always use another one for my other 360 hooked up to my monitor.

So I cancel my Amazon order for Bladerunner because of the delay, then call Best Buy to see if its in. The guy tells me yes and says he'll put one on hold for me. When I arrive, they tell me that they can't break the street date and that the actual release isn't until 12/25.

I hate, HATE Best Buy.

My delivery estimate is and has been December 28th for months now. Amazon has been dicking with me on shipping dates on many items recently, and won't give me a straight answer why.

Part of my wife's Christmas present (Rent on Blu-ray and a couple books) has been in the "shipping soon" category for almost a week now, but isn't scheduled to ship until DECEMBER 22ND, and it won't get here until after Christmas. I've emailed them about it, and they try to sound apologetic and understanding, but just blow me off.

That's what mine said, too. Doesn't mean it's going to happen, though. For reference, my 8800GT order from Dell was estimated to be 12/13, and I'm still waiting.

I love WHV! My HD DVD Blade Runner 5-disc (non-briefcase) set was delivered today. Free overnight shipping, received before the street date. The other two parts of my order (2001 and Potter set HD) were received on the street dates.

Can't beat it, when free overnight shipping is combined with 25% off.

Just to make it clear to everyone reading this thread, you can still watch all of your Hi Def movies on your Blu Ray players even without the Profile 1.1 update. The update simply, allows for lack of a better term, useless bonus features - java, internet sites and the like. So to anyone who was told your player won't play newer titles fell to the FUD.

They're still shit IMO.

Except nobody here said that, but thanks Captain Obvious.

Just what I've been reading on various forums about the elusive 1.1 update - and how old players are "done".

I'm so sorry not every other post in this thread is mine - so please continue to fill us in on the news.

I suppose they could have given me the movies for free, or with a couple of bonus free pints of Patron, but I didn't want to be greedy.

I'm referring to how they've treated those who pre-ordered the Kubrick movies (among other things)

Yeah, I guess that was rude, but I don't think anybody thought the movies wouldn't play. 1.1 profile movies (and their features) will be hyped to high hell by the BDA next year, and these players won't be able to take advantage of them. If it's enthusiasts who've already been told "too bad, you're an early adopter" by the BDA, then fine. But at $299, I'm worried that some folks are going to be buying a unit that doesn't do what the movie ads next year will say they do.

I'm pretty much done on that subject too. I don't think these units will continue to be produced, so hopefully 1.1 and (eventually) 2.0 players hit those price points early next year.

Again... no 1080p/24 on one side, no pip on the other, both sides have their screw jobs.

I got my BR copy today too (this morning in fact) but I am still waiting for my Oceans Giftset.

Got my five disks in on Hd-dvd. I sent it out Oct 10th. None of my cases were marked up, but I bought one recently not realizing that was the one I ordered.

Great week for Blu-ray huh! :D

This week will be much closer. I'm not going to say HD DVD is going to win with Ultimatum - as everytime it seems HD DVD will win a week, they lose it.
Do not quote me on it, but unless something changes between now and posting time all I will say is 63:37.

Wouldn't surprise me. People with vudu boxes get the first part of the trilogy for free and get the 3rd part discounted.

Yeah, I really wish the X360 crew would add 1080p/24 support to the HD-DVD add-on.

It's the only type of 1080 content my tv will accept.
