So can I find The Simpsons Movie Blu Ray in stores cheaper for $34.99?

I want to get this for a xmas gift, but there is no way I'm spending 35 bucks on the movie.

Reposted on a new page so it doesn't get lost. :D

What the hell is going on with Netflix and HD movies? I have Ratatouille, Oceans 13 and Mr. Brooks on the top of my Queue. Rat & Oceans have been in very long wait since release, Brooks has been on long wait. After receiving my last movie I get a notice:

"MR. BROOKS was not available at your local shipping center. Instead, we will be shipping this movie from Worcester, MA on the next business day. As usual, you will receive a movie shipped email confirming the shipment. "

(I live in S. Florida)

Damnit if they are going to ship from another center at least give me RAT!

I wonder if HD rentals are up, and if so, because people either don't want to commit to buying a format that might peter out or because prices are high.

Tenenbaums was released by Buena Vista/Disney. Darjeeling is Fox Searchlight. The DVD is scheduled for March according to The Digital Bits, but no word on a Blu-ray release.

I know it was released by buena vista, but the DVD release was criterion only unless things changed since I bought it, Same with Life Aquatic (touchstone/disney). I checked the release date for Darjeeling Limited hoping to see a mention of a blu-ray version but came up empty. Incidentally I saw the DVD release date for 2/26/08. Ah I just found a picture of the DVD, it seems fox will release it, Hopefully fox will release it for blu-ray as well.

The crazy thing is that I got Mr. Brooks way back when I got ripped off on Ebay, and had to return it when I realized that I wasn't getting my Ps3 to watch it on. Mr. Brooks says available now (though it isn't at the top of my queue anymore so it won't get shipped), while Rat is "very long wait" along with Live Free or Die Hard. Cars is "now", and Ocean's Thirteen is "long wait", so I feel like picking that up at my local Blockbuster, which has the Blu Ray version available, since apparently not many people are renting HD movies down here.

On HD DVD, I got TMNT last week or so after it being on queue for months, while Bourne Ultimatum and Harry Potter are "very long wait". Netflix is pretty pathetic when it comes to HD movies on both formats. I know I won't get to watch new releases for months unless I buy them, and the new releases are rarely listed in BOGO deals. I have to be content with older releases on both formats, which is fine for the most part.

Circuit city has it for $30, probably not as cheap as your hoping for, anyway amazon has it for $28, so I'm going to get it at CC it's only a $2 difference and waiting for shipping sucks.

Also High def digest gave it five out of five stars cant wait to see it.

The Video: Sizing Up the Picture

I have to admit walking into this one with relatively low expectations. Visually speaking, "The Simpsons" is certainly a step up from "South Park," but let's face it -- the TV show is a far cry from Pixar. However, the creative team behind the 'The Simpsons Movie' clearly put a lot of effort into upgrading the show's visuals for the big screen, and the results are often downright eye-popping. Likewise, this Blu-ray presentation looks way better than I expected it to.

Fox presents 'The Simpsons Movie' in 1080p/AVC MPEG-4 video. The most striking aspect of the presentation is certainly the colors. Hues are wonderfully vivid and smooth, with bold uses of primaries and subtle shadings and gradients that far exceed anything seen on the TV series. As you would expect, the source is immaculate, with not a whiff of grain or any other imperfections. Blacks are rock solid, with contrast expertly modulated across the entire grayscale. This image really pops with depth and detail, and it's sharp as a tack. I was continually surprised at how three-dimensional it all looks -- even "dark" scenes have a richness of texture that's faultless. Finally, despite the bold animation style, I noticed no posterization or macroblocking.

I'm going to go out on a limb and award 'The Simpsons Movie' a five out of five stars for video. Not because I think this one replaces 'Ratatouille' as the greatest animated movie yet to hit high-def, but simply because I can't find a single thing wrong with this transfer. It appears to be a perfect representation of the source material, and you just can't get any better than that. So don't have a cow, okay man?

The five disk is out, the ultimate in the case was delayed on both formats.

Not based on what i've seen.

I went to both Futureshop and Best Buy today and the Blu-ray copies were completely sold out. However, there were plenty (i'm talking double-digit) copies of the HD-DVD version - including the Ultimate breifcases - so I guess if you're an HD-DVD fan you won't have anything to worry about.

So yea, I came out empty handed. Looks like i'll try again this weekend.

Strange, Rat has been "Long Wait" for a long time in my Netflix queue. It is at the top of my queue. I wonder if that or place in line determines how long you wait.

Well I'm going to try to grab the Blu-Ray version of Blade Runner this weekend. Hopefully someone will have the 5 disk non ultimate version.

Cancelled my Amazon order and picked it up at HMV here in Toronto. More expensive but I really wanted it today. The fifth disc was loose when I got home and there is a small scratch on it. I really hate these cases... :/

For the person who said that the ultimate was delayed... I saw it at several stores today.

I saw plenty of the briefcase in both HD and Blu varieties all over town, and a handful of the regular Blu release. Only one copy of the HD-DVD apparently made it into this neck of the woods, which I bought, watched the final cut, and already have it up for trade elsewhere. I was open to giving the movie another chance after having seen it a few years ago, but man, it simply does nothing for me. Ah well.

Which HMV? Any more copies?

Yonge & Eglinton and they had one more (Blu-Ray) when I left. There were some Ultimate Editions around too.

FYI, I found them in a display near the escalator.

Adventures of Baron Munchausen Blu-Ray: 4/8/08

Sony Pictures Home Entertainment has announced that they will bring 'The Adventures of Barron Munchausen' to Blu-ray on April 8th. Specs have not yet been announced for this title, but extras include an audio commentary track, two featurettes, two storyboard sequences, and deleted scenes. Exclusive to this Blu-ray release is a "Graphics and Picture Track".

And you can vote for what the artwork should be here.

As a Blade Runner virgin is there any reason for me to get one of these sets over the other (Blu-Ray)? Will I get anything significant out of the larger one?

edit: Nevermind, just saw there's a dedicated topic to this question. I guess I'll read that.

Blu-ray.com got a screener copy of Resident Evil: Extinction, which utilizes Profile 1.1 and PiP.

That seems like some really cool content, and pretty much what I want from my movies on both formats, so I'm glad Blu is finally catching up in that regard. I'm updating my Ps3 right now. As far as the last paragraph, it seems like that extra content is lost for non 1.1 players, not as spookie suggested that the content would be shown in an alternate way. That's what I was afraid of, that the 1.0 players simply don't get access to the features, in any way.

We will see.
Everything that I am being told says that the pip content will be watchable as featurettes.

Does that even make sense to you? A video commentary with the director's head as a featurette? Who "tells" you these things? Is it one of your boys at hd digest forums? :lol

Picked up the suitcase version<hd-dvd> at my local best buy. (tried Amazon, but they sent me the dvd one..prolly me after some thought never done that before, but neither has amazon)

You could get by with complete. Its cool and all, but not almighty like HarryPotter:SE.

You do not get it.
For example in Harry Potter and the OoP, when there is a featurette a symbol appears on the screen and you hit a button and it plays that and then goes back to the movie.
It may not be the best way but it is not bad and gets the job done.
Same content, different delivery.

A bunch of Warner titles on BD and HD DVD are currently at 19.99 at Futureshop, including all Stanley Kubrick's titles.

Picked up Full Metal Jacket (re-master) and Clockwork Orange. Will pick up 2001 A Space Odyssey later on this week.

Holy shit. And that's in the span of a few weeks.

Makes sense for week to week sales to trend that way with HD penetration booming over there and people buying HD media for the holidays. They're ahead of the US significantly in the HD boom. Should put DVD officially in the backseat there in a year and a half or so.
