Kittonwy said:What back-up plan is Toshiba supposed to have when Warner Bros decided it's best that HD-DVD dies ASAP? Once Warner Bros goes Blu-Ray, it's game over. Maybe they thought they could keep WB neutral even if they can't woo them over.
surazal said:What if relying on Paramount and Universal was their backup plan? :lol
Ignatz Mouse said:A small price to pay in trade for more titles available and peace of mind that the format isn't going away soon.
MechDX said:What did the BDA do when Paramount/Dreamworks moved? They had Fox the next day realease a list of movies. Now in typical Fox fashion 80% didnt ever see release lol ) but it was something.
They should have either ponied up more cash or had SOMETHING planned just in case. I GUARANTEE you if WB had jumped the other way the BDA would have put something out there to draw peoples attention.
A good manager will prepare for all circumstances, just in case. Toshiba though.....its like watching a freaking train wreck right now.
Then do your press even, talk your PR bullshit and at least sound confident. Dont run away like a freaking whipped dog with your tail between your legs.
Good for you. Considering this stupid war over bits of plastic shouldn't have progressed this far in the first place, it's good to see you making most of your money back, if not all.HocusPocus said:Thank goodness my HD-DVD stuff is selling on Ebay. I'm getting back 90 cents on the dollar.
Ohio State fattens up their record on patsies every year before getting whupped on national television. At least HD-DVD can say it got beat by a proper juggernaut.Crisco said:Bigger trainwreck: HD DVD or Ohio State in the national championship game?
Kittonwy said:The difference was that Paramount going HD-DVD, while it hurt the BDA wasn't as significant as Warner Bros going Blu-Ray, which is essentially check-mate. I guess they could try to appear brave and shit but I think deep down they knew it was game over and just didn't have what it took to keep it together, everybody else knew it was game over anyway.
It's entertaining though.

Interview: Samsung Says There's Life After Hollywood for HD-DVD
"We scored a sitdown with DongSoo Jun, Executive VP and General Manager of Samsung's Digital AV Division. Translation: He's Samsung's main man on Blu-ray and HD DVD. We asked him the big question: "Is HD DVD dead ?" His answer might surprise you.
On the Hollywood front, he believes that the Warner announcement was a tipping point. In short, Blu-ray will win. But! HD DVD doesn't have to slink into a grave next to Betamax yet. It will become the chosen format for "private" (that is, personal) content because the formatahem, Toshiba and Microsofthas a stronghold in the PC drive market. He expects Toshiba to really concentrate on the PC HD DVD market since it's deader than disco if it loses there.
The format war ends. The "divide" begins. And it'll be even bigger, in a sense.
Upswing: Samsung's going to be keep pumping out dual-format players, so that people can easily watch the personal stuff and the Hollywood stuff on the same deck. "Most people...don't care about what format is most popular," says Jun.
He also thinks:
- $299 is the magic price for Blu-ray playerswatch around June/July
- 1,000 titles is the magic content number (Blu-ray is around 500 now)
-Digital distribution will kill standard-def physical media, not HD - people delete recorded SD content; they want to keep "high quality" content through Blu-ray

Because you're already buying a multiformat player when you buy a standalone BD or HDDVD player. If you think about how many formats each supports separately, the overlap between, what's one more format in combining the two?Kittonwy said:As much as Samsung tried to play both sides, why should I buy dual-format player?

Onix said:On the PC front ... storage is king. Tosh has been having problems getting dual layered (30GB) writable discs in large quantities.
Sony on the other hand, has had dual layered (50GB) writable discs available for 2 years now.
I really don't see how they can come out on top. There already is a BD writable market out there ... its just way too late. Just wait until Apple's announcement.

Fixed, its almost guaranteed death sentence to get moved to friday.Stinkles said:They have a business that relies on cooperation with Hollywood.

You cannot have a back up plan when you are forced to staff your Delta Squad with coked-up retards.
