Wait until you realize that not everything will automatically be better when you become a minority.

It fascinates me as a non-white person, how most people think that if they removed their so-called white privilege from areas they are dominant (economic, political, cultural) that things will be better.

A question, what if this new Hispanic majority, decides to make Spanish the official language of government in California? They are a democracy and now have the votes. What if they decide they'll pass a law where it's no longer illegal to fly the US flag lower than another country's.

Just my thoughts.

The Spanish and the French did try to rape the Indian culture out of the Southwest, and burnt what they couldn't pillage or steal. But there are some Indians who try to hold on to their culture instead of running away from it.

The nomenclature latinos is a shorthand for latinoamericanos (anyone born in Latin America).
Latin America is the more inclusive, less colonial, name for Ibero-America (colonies of Spain and Portugal).

Hispanics are all those from spanish heritage, and Latin America happens to be the largest portion of that, so it is understandable the association and use.

All in all it is a silly comparison as it is worded, since you can be hispanic and white.
But easily understandable that they mean "those with likely spanish-ameridian ancestry will surpass those with likely euro-american ancestry".

The majority of white people definitely don't think that at all. Maybe the more liberal white people do. But if they think it'll be "better," they wouldn't necessarily be referring to themselves, but to society as a whole. Things will be more fair. The lower classes will have more lobbying power, which would lead to better economic treatment, maybe getting a better social safety net for them, maybe fixing some of the institutions white people have fucked up with and don't really want to fix. It wouldn't be some magic pill for America or some instant fix, but it would very likely be leading toward progress, however much it is.

As for the silly things you think Hispanic people might do in power... Well, that's just silliness. I can see Spanish someday being made the official second language of the US, but that's about it.

The term Latino/a doesn't apply to non US born individuals iirc.

e.g Sofia Vergara isn't a Latina, but a Latin American. She would be Latina if she was Colombian American, i.e. born in the US from Colombian parents, not born in Colombia

As an Iranian-American in South Orange County I will tell you right here to go fuck yourself with a rake. And don't you dare shit on the latino population. In my experience many of them are very hard workers and contribute a good amount to our society here. Sure places like Santa Ana might not be the most stable but then again what dense and urban area isn't? Just last week we had some latinos working on my parents house and i'll tell you that they were some of the greatest and most hard working people I have seen in my life.

I would say the amount of machismo shit I've encountered in socal is about the same over every race I've been around. It usually had more to do with the kind of neighborhood they were in and not their race.

Look, the Mexican side of my family is pretty damn awful too, but that's just my family, not all Mexicans. Know you seem to have had a bad experience with some people, but there are better ways to discuss machismo or problems you have with the culture without resorting to gross generalizations.

You know the issues the black community has? Well it's not exactly the same thing going on but it's similar in terms of socio-economics you know? And despite the disadvantages in my experience I know lots of really hard working latinos. I mean I guess I don't know too much though for all I know. I just moved to OC and haven't ventured further north than John Wayne Airport or further south than downtown San Clemente.
