HOLD or DISCARD? - 'current gen consoles'

So folks, what will you do when next gen arrives?

"Sell your current gen console or keep it."

Some of you might think why this guy even has to ask, right? It seems natural to sell the old console and to reinvest the money into the new generation. This is how it is done. That's the way, right?

I mean PS5 has legacy mode, XSX has BC+ mode. You'll loose nothing, but gain everything, right?

But wait a sec! There might be some legit reasons to keep your little fuckers:

- you might have one of those limited edition swarovski brag toys.
- you're a collector
- falling prices
- you have acquired expansive stuff like multiple pads, steering wheels, etc.
- future homebrew shit incoming
- well, any other reason...

So what is your reason to hold or discard? What will you do?

(Late buyers are hereby dismissed :messenger_grinning_sweat: )

I decided I'll never sell a console or game again. Keeping all my gamer stuff.

Still wish I had some of my old consoles.

Depends on the competence of the backwards compatibility solution of both. MS sounds more robust in that area but they still might have that one game that isn't working properly from your collection. Kinda have to wait and see for the moment.

I have enough money and space (atm) to not need to trade-in. I'll probably be getting a Series X, and put the One X on another TV in the house, plus that cross-buy/play anywhere thing I forget the name of, should make for a fun little extension of my Xbox gaming in the short-term. : )

It'd also be interesting if the Ones can eventually use X-Cloud. May be worth keeping it around long-term for that as well, when the Series X or particular TV is occupied.

Plus, not sure I trust BC until DF and others hit it with a fine tooth comb. Particularly Sony's weird, non-comittal wording. I'd rather just make sure I have access to everything.

Xbox will probably get traded in if a decent deal is offered but Ps4 I'm definitely keeping since im not getting rid of it with my 2tb hd.

Yeah it will depend on how backwards compatibility works on Ps5.

If all (or the vast majority) of my Ps4 games will work on Ps5 I see no reason not to sell my Pro and use that to partially pay for a Ps5

I usually sell/trade the old for the new as I don't collect and getting some money back just makes sense to me.

However, both USB ports on the front of my PS4 Pro do not work so I don't think I'll get full price on the trade in. Thank god the port on the back works for my external hdd! I might still try to trade it in as usually they just test if it turns on...

This also depends on the reveal of PS5 for me—will I be able to download my PS4 collection on PS5 day one? I doubt it. There are just too many great games from this gen I'll want to play as soon as I can't so most likely just going to hold onto it for a while.

Highly doubt I can play everything attached to my PS4 Pro on my PS5, so I can't get rid of that, annoyingly, jet engine and all.

Will be selling my X1X since PS5 will play UHD discs and literally everything MS do is coming to PC now.

Always a bit of a tricky scenario for me. I'd like to hold onto my PS4 Pro for example long enough to know that my PS5 won't have any issues. In the event of a repair, I would have a secondary Console to fall back on. So there's that additional scenario of not wanting to trade my Console in before the launch day. Same for the 1X, but that one would be traded in sooner as I don't play it as much.

I usually hold on to my consoles but I feel like with the Series X having full BC there won't be much of a point.

Right now my "primary" console is my One S that's in my son's room (so he can play the digital games I own and we can share the Game Pass sub). So when the Series X comes out I'll probably retire the One S, make the One X my primary to give him an upgrade, and play on the Series X myself.

I think so too. The question is if the download games will be supported.
If not, I'll hold onto the current gen.
Shitty thing is I'm running out on Hdmi ports.

All depends, I really don't want to give up my Death Stranding edition even though the PS5 will let me play anything.

They've already said (with the Series X) that you can simply move all of your games on your Xbox One to an external drive if they're not already on one, then plug that same drive into the Series X and you won't need to reinstall any games. Their BC will work with both disc based games and digital games.

I already sold my ps4. I have a gaming pc and that is my primary platform but I'm planning to get a ps5 down the line.
Hopefully, ps5 will be backwards compatibile with ps4.

Keep hold of my X and use it as faux-next gen xbox until the mid-gen Xbox One Series X X is released

Buy a PS5 day one.

Not much point in hanging on to them, BC is a thing, most of the content on these consoles is digital and carries over and the OG xbone is so underpowered it can't even be used as a paper-weight

Keeping. Using Xbox One X as 4K blu ray player. I have a sealed PS4 Pro Spider man console that I will 1 day sell hopefully for a small fortune, and keep my God of War PS4 pro for games that won't be backwards compatible.

Depends on the launch game lineup. If there are games that force me to buy a launch PS5 then goodbye PS4. Otherwise, I will hold on to it until I have a reason to get rid of it.

I don't sell my consoles.
Even if they are broken.

They are part of my story.
And I love them too much for abandoning or selling them.

Will sell or trade in (if a good promo is on) when I'm ready to move on. Always have as an adult as I rarely replay games, don't collect anything and hate clutter.

Sell it on eBay for maximum return 1 month b4 next-gen console release. Game on my PC till the PS5 arrives.

I've had a white PS4 (Destiny pack-in, NOT the themed system) since 2014.

I just got my Xbox One X in March, the day I started quarantine from work.

I'm buying a PS5 immediately, and waiting a long damn time to get an XSX. I'd happily trade my PS4, but again: OG non-Pro model. Plus the drive is acting up. So I guess I'm keeping it?
