So these level 18 Glinthawks are fucking destroying me, I am level 20 with purple gear. Am I missing something with these guys? Haven't had this much trouble with any enemy so far, including a Thunderjaw I just took down. Granted there we 3 other Carja dudes drawing aggro, but still.

I've got nothing left to do in this game now except a few bandit camp, 3 trials and collecting shit lying across the map.

I do find it a bit funny though how people hate Ubisoft games because of the "formula" no matter how fun to play the game is or different from formula (as with Watch Dogs 2) the game is. Going as far as to mock even the smallest things like the map because it's full of icons. And the funny bit is that Horizon has all of it from collectibles to towers to map full of icons, it's more Ubisoft formula than Watch Dogs 2 or Division and yet I haven't really seen that sort of negativity towards it.

It shows that the formula isn't really bad or isn't really something that makes the game bad inherently but what matters is the gameplay...Though in case of Ubisoft it seems to be hard for people to see past the name of the developer.

Because they aren't inherently bad things when executed extremely well — which is the case with Horizon. It would be more fair to say they're not being done justice in many Ubisoft and Ubi-like titles, then. I agree that it's ridiculous to write these aspects off wholesale, though I understand why it's so maligned given that the execution has been poor more often than not.

So what does the create a job feature actually do? I thought it was supposed to help you to stop grinding
All it does is lets you keep track of how many mats you have and how many more you need. It doesn't really do anything more than that, it won't mark the location of the stuff you need on your map, it won't increase drop rates. It's just a convenience QoL feature than anything else.

If you want higher drop rates use harvest arrows.

I hate Watch Dogs 2 and Division but platinumed Far Cry Primal. A good game is a good game.

Shoot their belly and they will fall to the ground and then finish them.

I think people got sick of Assassin's Creed (I know I did) more so than the formula. I just really love the setting in this game.

I been playing all day.

Farcry 3 and Farcry 4 were well execute with fun and good shooting mechanics though. Infact Farcry's sandbox (excluding Primal) remains one of the strongest and most emergant sandboxes out there, more so than Horizon even actually.

I just shoot them with my bow in the chest until they fall from the sky or dodge when they swoop down and hit them with a heavy spear strike and then finish them off with a critical hit. Annoying bastards, though.

Many would argue otherwise, it seems (I enjoyed both of these titles).

No, it definitely marks certain stuff on the map. I created a job for a high level sling shot I wanted and it marked a Thunderjaw on my map for one of the materials I needed.

I made a huge mistake when I decided to try and take on 3
tramplers
at once....
i just did a side mission that requires you to deal with 4 tramplers next to thunder jaw territory. I overrode two of the tramplers and then they kept spreading out eventually attracting the thunderjaw. Just absolute madness lol

Shoot their belly with a heavy/tear arrow, they'll lose half their health and fall allowing you to do a crit strike....or debuff them with fire. You can also use a ropecaster.

It'll do that for robot mats, since their location already exists on the map. For animal mats and other stuff it won't since RNGezus will pop them out pretty much anywhere.

Ubisoft games don't have giant robot dinos that you can fight. Case closed.

It depends what you want from those games.
I think Far Cry 3 fails in a very important way.

There was no danger from wild life. You could QTE at any point and not ever die.

AC3 also didn't have dangerous wild life. I think it also had OHK QTE, can't remember exactly but no danger due to that.

RDR had real danger where even some coyotes could fuck you up. And TW3 on the higher difficulty was also difficult.

If only those damn leaves moved when you moved through them rather than clipping through in an obvious fashion. Don't even want physics based movement, just a little shake and wiggle while you pass through. My biggest disappointment, followed by water which has the same issue of little to no feedback (sometimes you don't even get splashing sound).

While Horizon is one of the most beautiful games ever, this is my biggest problem with it. Aloy and the world feel so separate and don't interact with each other unless something is scripted.

It would be impossible to run physics on the grass or in the world in a game of this scale without sacrificing how the game looks. While it wasn't physics based and was just animated in a shader, I loved Naughty Dog's foliage solution in Uncharted 4. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fDtL3PpNI-g

That's your biggest problem in the game??? Well I guess that's kind of a compliment.

Erm...you know this game exists right?

I won't be surprised if the idea of a laser shooting dinobot came from Blood Dragon, seeing just how much Farcry influenced this game is, which then could have led GG to making an entire game about robot animals.

I've been thinking about this and I was even going to make a thread about it but I feel like the industry has reached its saturation point with shooty mcbang bang games where you just shoot other human AI. I feel like the trend started around the time of sleeping dogs which is heavily loved and melee focused. Then you had the arkham games. If watchdogs 2 was bold enough to not even have guns be in the game, I'd bet money that it would have been given really high praise. The same way that If this game didn't have machines and just had you fighting humans, it'd be the prettiest looking game that no one would be talking about

All praise Ubisoft, they practically made this 6 years in development game. Nice try GG, better luck next time.

Horizon development began in 2011, and their first step was making the Thunderjaw to see if the concept would work

Blood Dragon came out in 2013

A moment ago I was too aggressive exiting menus whilst still atop the last Tallneck and I rolled right off it to my untimely death.

I see, then they did make Thunderjaw a lot earlier.
However the game still has been heavily influenced by Farcry 3 formula eventhough it started development before FC3 came out. Naturally things get added and directions change over the years.

I actually love Ubisoft games and I can't remember playing a Ubisoft game that executed on its ideas as well as Horizon has its own. Maybe WD2 but I haven't played that. Last one was probably AC2 tbh.

Most Ubisoft titles tend to be one step removed from greatness. I've accepted that now. I pretty much buy a lot of their stuff day one knowing there will be one or two things that piss me off a lot.

You're right. Blood Dragon was amazing as well.

Kinda OT but while playing the game I was thinking about how crazy fast Ashley Burch's career has skyrocketed.

Go from being a YT personality to voicing the lead character for a flagship Sony franchise.

I'm not hating, just kind of in awe of it.

what determines merchant inventory? Just your level? I explored a bit and everybody sells the same crap.

also, if this game has preorder bonuses, amazon seems to have forgotten to send me mine.

And Far Cry's critical acclaim reflects that right? I know for sure that I LOVE the Far cry games WAY more than any of of the AC or WD games.
