Still pretty amazing that SSM has still not released a new game for the PS4 yet. We know that SSM does a lot of other things to help smaller devs but that cancelled game really sucks for them.
and it really stuck out to me too. Kind of sad just since she's never had a real connection with anyone but Rost. Also, I felt bad for the girl and when she hinted at killing herself I was like OH SHIT gotta do something! Thankfully Aloy picked up on it too and got her talking with her dad. Gave me major flashbacks to Life is Strange.
I'd actually like to think Aloy has friends in Vanasha, Talanah, Varl and Erend it's just that due to her journey she can't just kick back and chill with them.
I'm still fairly early in the game. Just spoke to the guy that first gives you trials at the Nora Hunting Grounds.
The first one was to knock off 10 blaze canisters off of Grazers, and you have 1:30 to do it if you want a blazing sun (gold medal). I'm wondering if I'm just not equipped for it yet because that seems nigh impossible with my bow and arrow and the Grazers stampeding off when I shoot one.
Any suggestions in how to approach this?
Also another question:
What is the benefit of the sharpshot bow that I have? It says it's ideal for long range shots, but it kind of functions the same as my standard bow and arrow. Is it supposed to allow me to zoom in to the target? Am I missing something here? Just trying to understand how the bows differentiate from each other.

But... am I missing something regarding weapon upgrades? I kinda feel a bit underpowered all the time. I'm like LV 22 but was doing some lv12 sidequest which took me to a bandit stronghold and they were kicking my ass. It took like 3 headshots with a regual arrow to kill anyone
The first time I tried it, I got my butt kicked, too. But then I took the stealth approach (use tall grass, corners around the building structure, rocks, etc.) and was able to manage just fine. Also the precision bow (I think that's the name) is far better for human encounters than the normal bow.
Lastly, make sure you talk to the NPC guy before going into the stronghold. He helped out a bit.
I'm not sure why people are considering Aloy's lack of sexual agency or romance options a negative.
I really liked how Aloy turned down offers confidently and politely, why reduce a new female protagonist whose clear goals is one that is existential to finding a man/woman?
Reduce? What? Just because she could potentially be interested in a one-night stand with some hot dude, or just gets into an intimate relationship at some point, doesn't mean she's "reduced to making a man her goal". Christ. No one's asking for her to be pining over a man constantly and make that the primary story.
I actually found it weird how many courtship offers she receives through the game in comparison to how sure Guerilla's writing seemed to be of wanting her to be independent.

Dont worry about beating those right away, you pretty much have to have the slow down ability for that challenge to beat it. You will get many skills later on that will make those challenges much easier

Why is that weird? She's attractive and confident so she gets people interested in her. There's nothing weird about that.
Just about to get to the first point of no return! Did a couple side quests today. I'm about 32 hours in and lvl 35. I'm running out of space for resources. I really wish they'd let us upgrade once more. I only have a few things left to upgrade. I'm broke right now. Need way more shards. Also trying to upgrade my outfits. I guess I'll go hunt the appropriate machines tomorrow. I wish I could just play this all day but oh no need to sleep and work

Just plan strategically. The double focus slowdown also helps, so might want to hold off untill you have that unlocked.
You can knock off two without alerting the herd, then focus slowdown for 2-3 more. Then it's just running after and trying to get another five before time.
It's challenging, but not terribly difficult. None of these are brute force challenges, and its all how you approach them strategically.

It's not that there would be anything wrong with Aloy hooking up with someone, I honestly think people are just happy with the fact that she's not like a lot of other female lead characters that we've seen in the past (mainly in films, to be fair), who seem like "strong women" at first, but underneath are actually unhappy and really just need somebody with a penis to complete them and teach them how to lead a happy, fulfilling life.
You must know that character. We've seen her many, many times. Aloy isn't her, at all, and that's a good thing, I think.
Plus, like I mentioned earlier, she does actually seem to be into a certain somebody in this game, if I'm reading it right so far.
Anyone on this thread that has managed to play both Zelda and this already? I've enjoyed BOTW "like it's 98" and it is awesome, but now after hundred or so shrines, memories unlocked and final boss won I'm feeling the pull of Zero Dawn. Any experiences if these two are too humongous to play back to back like that, should I wait for discounts? I don't want to ruin my experience of Horizon by playing it too early after one huge (and excellent) open-world game...

make that challenge a breeze since it knocks off several canisters per shot. It's easily cleared that way in less than 30 seconds, but you don't have access to them when you first get access to that hunting ground.

I beat both last week. Loved the shit out of both of them. Still playing Zelda, exploring chunks of the map I didn't spend much time in yet etc.
Overall, I like Horizon more. Just more my cup of tea with a more focused game design (vs. pure free exploration), the graphics and art style, the actually fun combat, the great story and characters.
Horizon is an easy 9.5 type game for me. Zelda is great, but more an 8.5-9 type game for me in terms of personal enjoyment as I'm just not as into sandbox stuff and exploration for explorations sake and prefer games with a strong narrative and characters. So it's a testament to Zelda's quality that I like it as much as I do given my current interests, but Horizon is a near perfect fit for my current tastes.

Both are great games for different reasons, just enjoy Horizon for what it is on its own and you'll have a blast. I had to stop myself from comparing the two because I would get frustrated at Link's controls vs Aloy's and I would get equally annoyed at the lack of traversal freedom in Horizon that Zelda offered.
The combat and Lore in Horizon is some the best I've experienced in years.
I forget this name, but I think it was Varl. Dude wanted to meet me at mothers crown after the ring of metal quest, and I just searched the whole village and he isnt here.

I never noticed it in-game but it sounds awesome. It's a mix of Deus Ex, Person of Interest and Batman: The Dark Knight. Do you guys think the devs recorded enough songs to use in a potential expansion/dlc?

Yeah that wouldn't be cool but that's not what I'm talking about. You can write women who have love/sexual interests without making them "incomplete without her man" or BS like that. It's not even really hard to do...
I legit slumped in my chair the moment I realized what I was facing in that zone. I didn't have to cheese it though, the game did that for me. Behemoth wandered by at the perfect time and I guess he hated rockbreakers as much as I do, because he proceeded to demolish one while I handled the other. That was neat.
Still have the bandit camps and all those fucking knick knacks littered across the map. I have to do the trials...but I really don't have the patience for them. How the hell am I supposed to get a blazing sun for those Thunderjaw trials?
is but I just love trekking around the world. I actually realized how much I prefer to just walk from destination to destination and treat the walk like a mission of it's own. This game is way too rad. I want to know what happened in the past, but I'm making this experience last.

Oh, it will most definitely appear in a sidequest.
I avoided fighting them for a long ass time and was pretty successful at it - until they threw one at me during a sidequest lol. Managed to defeat it without dying, but yeah, best get your ropecaster at the ready!
Yeah, I agree, but for some reason a lot of writers have struggled to do it in the past. I could be wrong, but maybe people (like those you quoted) are just happy to see any improvement on that kind of BS.

You can lower the difficulty to make it easier. Or if you're stubborn like me keep trying with different with methods. Felt very rewarding to me.
Personally I feel the stalker trials were harder due to how urgent everything was. If you need videos to help you with, I found the hunting vids by i eat games to be quite helpful

Yeah I want the lodge weapons, but I don't want to deal with the other stuff, which is weird cause I love the game and combat, but with the lodge stuff telling me how I should play and me finding it unfun I don't do them too much.
