Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

I still have the meristation video up and just saw the part with the guy at the cliff. That was amazing. It actually had me laughing. That's not great animation, but it wasn't a negative thing to me. It honestly wouldn't bother me if more of the scenes were like that. Shit was hilarious.

Sorry, but I need to ask. In that mirror link, it that the real voice acting, or is that like a bad lip read parody?

I'm 100% genuinely asking.

Edit checked. If the quality of this is consistent with most side quests, it's not exactly the part of the game I want to spend time with. And if it's going to be consistent with the main quest, same thing.

Well, that's what I mean. The Engadget preview, for example, lends credence to this particular interaction being an outlier. If this were indicative of the quality, I see no way in which the previewer could have come away as impressed as she was.

So I just watched "that" scene. If you focus purely on the voice acting (i.e. close your eyes), I think it isn't bad at all, quite decent, especially for an open world, but someone forgot to do the proper animations for this fellow and now he looks ridiculous in a way that he wasn't intended.
this was released in 2016. standards have changed
Heh, nice one.

Dude sounds like someone with mental illness to me. Which I think is the point of character.
As someone who's incredibly close with someone with a mental illness, no he doesn't. This is the same sort of portrayal in media that often stigmatizes mental illness instead of humanizing it. :|

For the case of Deus Ex HR specifically, also understand that we had access to the first eleven hours of the game six months before release, and had a good idea of what that game was going to be. With MD, we had the assumption that it was more Deus Ex HR. Before that slice of HR released, people were incredibly skeptical about Deus Ex returning.

Horion is a new IP and is unproven. I hope it's great.

Do you really thin the side quest animation and VA will change this close to release in the game?

Also, I do not think it was just the one cutscene people are referencing. I don't remember the name of the character since the video was taken down, but I think it was the one with Kral or something similar. The voice acting was just as terrible in that scene.

Again, I hope the gameplay is good. I hope the game is good. But just because you like something doesn't mean that it is without faults.

Most likely not but some going to be better than others like most other RPGs.

Wow lol...

Maybe that terrible cutscene was meant to be ridiculous and awful, eh?

Not every mission/side mission needs to be 10/10 writing Oscar material y'know.

Some games have silly missions, maybe that's just one of those silly missions....

I liked everything else though! I'm going to enjoy actually 'playing' the game. Did anyone else notice how there was an option to turn things she needed to collect into a quest?

What if they're ALL robots and that's why the acting is so stiff and unemotional?

That subject matter discussed in that side mission is not the kind of shit I want them to be joking about

I don't really get the Ubisoft complaints. This is much more Witchery to me - and that's a very good thing.
It has become a lazy and nondescript critique by posters who'd rather drive by post and aren't actually interested in discussion.

Going to a high location to reveal parts of the map isn't just a ubisoft thing. Collectables aren't just a ubisoft thing. Not even all ubisoft titles are the same. It isn't difficult to be a bit more descriptive and at least compare a specific ubisoft title to whatever part of the gameplay they're referring to rather than pretend all games from a single publisher are the same.

Yes they talked about this a bit. Instead of slaying the same enemy time and time and time again for a rare item, you can do a quest instead for the item you need.

I hope there's a hud off button. I really want to get lost in the world. By the way, does this game have health regeneration?

Also, Aloy reminds me of Kristen in that one video cutscene.

I guess standards for a AAA 1st party developer shouldn't be as high? lulz

ah yes- compare it to other games released prior that utilized different developers/engines/artists/directors/screenwriters/etc. make so much sense since they are kinda in the same 'genre'. wish we could do this for every game in whatever 'genre' they are in. lol

This is muthaFukin GG and we should expect higher quality across the board if we are to expect this to be the next big IP IMO.

Even the cut-scene with the guy talking to her about riding one of the robotdinos into the town was off too. it's a lil after the cutscene we all are focusing on.

Like others, i await more details on this preview and im excited to see how it unfolds.

Isn't the Guerilla Games event about to start or has already started? D: Is there a live stream? I already asked before. :(

mine from Ars Technica: http://arstechnica.com/gaming/2017/...awn-made-me-crazy-with-anticipation-for-more/

I'll be online to answer questions about my play. But, my oh my, did I like what I saw.

This is where pre-encounter planning really pays off. You might start by laying down an electric-wire trap by placing two poles near each other, which brings up a live wire on the ground. In fact, lay down a couple of those on the encounter's outskirts, for good measure. Then launch an explosive slingshot charge at one end of a herd's strongest creatures, which will send them scurrying in the opposite direction.

Switch to your bow, with a fire-tipped arrow, and aim at a weak spot on the head of a slower-moving guard creature (you already scanned it, right?). Hit that shot, let the fire damage start wearing that sucker down, and equip your rope-tying gun. Now, use that to slow and stymie the fastest, most aggressive creature that might otherwise charge at you. Get the bow back out, lay down some arrows to take out some of the wimpier Watchers, and rush up to that tied-up beast and land a few "critical" blows.

When it breaks loose from the ties, run back to the outskirts and hope it chases you right through those traps you set earlier. The traps won't hurt you, but they'll definitely hurt the thing behind you.

Cool. The enemy is now weakened by about 70 percent. Finish it with carefully timed attacks and dodge rolls. Also, don't forget the super-powered abilities you've unlocked with level-up points. These include, among other cool things, an incredible time-slowing effect whenever you run and slide—which lets you carefully aim an arrow or two at an enemy's weak point just when you need it.

You're being too generous. There's zero context needed for that to see it's plain badly animated and voiced.

I'll give you Triss. Worst voice acting in the game by a wide margin. Geralt's fit the character of someone stripped of emotion. I never heard a line uttered that wasn't in line with that, and instead sounded flat bad. It was always decent at worst.

Well, there aren't many ways to fuck up a "flat delivery" when it's purposeful. Besides all of those times when he DID show emotion through his voice acting, though. But whatever, I'm making a point here. I wasn't actually bothered by the delivery.

As to the scene we're talking about, it isn't actually badly animated. The animations are fine, if a bit discordant with what's happening. But all in all, fine. The voice acting isn't top-of-the-shelve, but it isn't absolutely horrendous either, and it definitely wouldn't be out of place between those dutch-sounding basterds and random-guy-in-the-woods in The Witcher 3.
