Photomode ToD change. Also nice for watching the cloud-lighting change quickly and dramatically!

Think we just find the next game that going to over take the screenshot thread .
Going to be fun to fool around with that .

For a brand new IP their first open world RPG game this is impressive stuff!
How the fuck are they doing this? It has to be the same kind of tricks Naughty Dog does to make a game look more expansive than it really is. Like the trees in the background might even be just a static image, and the clouds and mountains might just all be a flat skybox as well. You can't have a game that's drawing that many things in real time, with that kind of foliage, and looking that good running at 30fps on the current consoles. The trees aren't moving either, and they wouldn't stop moving in TW3. Youtbue compression made it hard to tell if it was just compression artifacts or if the trees were moving. Looks like quite a few of them are, but many aren't.

edit: looking at the clouds more closely, that seems to be exactly what's going on. So if that's what they are doing, I wonder how much of the game really will be more than just these tightly packed, "kind of wide" corridor or dead end valley areas that make the game look a lot more open than it actually is?
Maybe developing exclusively on PS4 hardware and a brand new engine to get the absolute nook and cranny most out of the hardware the past 3 - 4 years maybe that's why :)

It's not just the Killzone team though, they got tons of people on board from other studios, including Bioware, Blizzard and CD Projekt RED.

Understood. Don't get me wrong it looks really good. Might not be my thing but I'll keep an eye on it. Just seems silly when people who think it has elements of Ubi open world design (and some not even saying it as a negative) get attacked, along with people who aren't 'hyped enough' or something. As usual, beware the nuclear hype cycle.

The combat variety is what is going to set this apart, imo. Setting traps is novel and looks engaging.

Yeah, it looks good. Boring repetitive combat is one of the factors that held back The Witcher 3 and especially Dragon Age Inquisition, imo.

This game... O: Who would've thunk an open world game would graphically eclipse Uncharted 4?

But has it? To me it doesn't really look like it so far, but it probably looks nicer than any other large open world game I've seen.

how does this game look so damn goooooood.

Fuck me, going to waste my life exploring......when you nail the atmosphere and exploration parts it never feels tedious to walk from place to place....unlike certain other games *cough*Ubisoft*cough*

So does anyone else feel that this game graphically looks better than Uncharted 4 during gameplay?

I can't believe I'm saying this but GG are fudging wizards!

I don't know about that man but the least we can say it's that it's pretty damn close, wizardry indeed.

Even after spending over 4 hours wandering the world of Horizon: Zero Dawn, it felt like I'd barely scratched the surface. And when you consider the story's sci-fi origins, it opens up vast possibilities for more locations. Most of what I saw were tribal cities and beautiful vistas full of nature in all forms, but I'm hoping we'll also get to visit locations the "old ones" once inhabited.

I found the leveling up and equipment systems easy to understand -- you'll find them familiar if you've played previous action RPGs. And buying equipment is consistent with the game's universe and themes. Traders won't just ask you for currency if you're eyeing a new piece of gear, they'll also require you to hand over components or materials you'll need to loot from a specific machine. It's a great way to get you to take risks to bring down larger, more dangerous machines.

People say that PS4 games cannot be better as X86.
They ignore the software tech improve

I've been pronouncing Aloy wrong the whole time. I liked my version better lol.

Anyways thinking I might buy this for my little cousin. I just found out it's rated T, thought it was a M title. I'm getting bad at guessing ratings now. I thought Zelda would be T buts it's a E10 title.

Photomode is one of my favourite features this gen.

Some of us own multiple platforms and can be objective without letting bias cloud our vision.

That is to be proven. Having multiple systems doesn't necessarily have baring on whether you articulate a balanced opinion or not.

Looks better than I expected from the Kinda Funny lets play. Glad to see that he said it looks good on the OG PS4. I don't really think I want to spend 400 bucks for this alone.

It does remind me of Primal, but then I 100%ed that game so this should be good.

I really enjoy a post apocalyptic setting if done right.

So... last year, The Division released the day my vacation started. I played The Division for a whole month.

This year, Horizon launches on Feb. 28th and my vacation starts on March 1st.

Owning multiple platforms doesn't mean you still can't be biased towards one more than the other :P

I have been looking forward to this game since it was announced, nothing would please me more than if it were amazing but from I've seen today I'm not sure it will be, I'm definitely less hyped for it now, I guess we'll see, but I think it's stupid to just assume anyone who doesn't think it looks like the best game ever made are some sort of hater. Some people get way too invested in games before they release, it's No Man's Sky all over again.

Believe me when I say that I'm not necessarily criticizing the way the game looks. I think it looks fucking amazing. However, it's been said to be "open world", but even people who are very familiar with the system and might have one of the best engines for it aren't going to be able to do these kinds of graphics in real time with everything in an actual open world.

Another thing is that I have yet to see any footage that proves this actually is an open world game. If you look at the majority of gameplay footage, what do they all have in common? They look like they take place in very wide corridors. You're almost always surrounded by mountains on the left and right side, and not really distantly either. I'm technically fine with that though, and don't actually care about the game being truly "open world" (whether it is or not), and honestly prefer that it not be.

Some of the amazing new screens that were released:

I'm not convinced that it truly is open. That's also how Naughty Dog is always able to make their games look as good as they do. They can just cram the typically restricted areas full of graphical goodness.

The amount of usually suspects coming at you for keeping a level head is embarrassing.

It looks fucking cool. Does it really need to go beyond that?

Well, the rule of cool can be enough up until a point, but it might need to go further than that in terms of gameplay too...
It's just the reactions (YOOOOO, WHAAAAA, etc) seemed pretty overexaggerated, amongst other things. It's nothing particularly impressive outside of the graphics, especially since it's part of a mission objective.

Man shut the hell up. It looks dope. Get over it.

Calm down, people can criticize stuff without having to "shut the hell up".

The game looks gorgeous on most parts, gameplay can be arguable. Looking forward to seeing more non-cut gameplay from random players.

Isn't there only one former CDPR employee on that team? I believe Reanimator went back to CDPR after a while.

Anyway, game is looking good and I'm glad they didn't go The Witcher route. I was afraid they would and fail, so that's great.

I didn't take it as you were criticizing it I just stated the obvious of first party dev team developing and the time period etc and getting the most out of the hardware would get more than most other devs since I couldn't answer your question properly my bad

I dunno, it just came across as trying to police people's excitement. It's just something that looked awesome, and people were reacting to how it looked.

I agree that the quest scenes in this preview are really poor, but they won't kill the game.

The story trailer has already proven that the actual cinematics will be just fine, so the story won't suffer in that regard.

The gameplay mechanics, content, and variety will ultimately determine if this game is good. It is promising.

I was discouraged from taking on side quests but did so anyway, and I liked the many traversal paths I could take from point to point, and the way battles organically unfolded on open, wild prairies. So, I'd say "open world" is legit.
