Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

Random Question - Does anyone know if this game uses the touchpad? Mine doesnt work (pressing it like a button works but not the actual touch part)

YOOOO

Which preview is this from?

They REALLY should have made the HUD fade in and out as needed (hopefully an option?), the world is so damn beautiful and it gets in the way :/

visuals look great but I'm gonna hold off on getting a Pro until Red Dead Redemption 2.

it seems alright, i get the feeling this might feel really dull and formulaic partway in like a ubisoft open world game. hopefully that's not the case.

What I don't get is the devs say that quest takes place in the middle of the game, yet there's only like a tiny fraction of the map revealed. He must have misspoke, right?

The grass physics are out of this planet.

Guerilla has outmaneuvered CD Projekt Red on this front. It also looks a lot better too. Holy fuck.

Gathering herbs, Crafting, Following bloodtrails, Good graphics, Pretty characters, Great voice acting, Great writing, mixed monsters, bland but varied combat

Oh wait that was Witcher 3
I mean:

Gathering herbs, Crafting, Following bloodtrails, Good graphics, Pretty characters, Crappy voice acting, Crappy writing, laughably silly monsters, shooting arrows with gunlike physics

There we go

This right here!

During my hands-on session, I played the first three main missions of the campaign, with a few side quests thrown in, before skipping ahead in the story (apparently to avoid spoilers) and being let loose on the open world to explore some of the Nora homelands. It's never an ideal way to get a feel for the rhythm of an open-world RPG, but it was just enough to get an idea of the story that Guerilla is trying to tell with Aloy - a story that is surprisingly compelling, despite the fact that many fans feel they've already got the main narrative beats pegged a mile off.

It certainly looks like it's gonna be one hell of a world. Graphics are insane. Combat looks fun as well.

It's not really my kind of game, but I might bite if the reviews are good.

If there is one thing you shouldn't have listed for the Witcher 3, is combat. Even if it is bland or "varied".

You look daft as fuck now. Becaude at least, Guerilla can put together good combat.

It was cool doing the same in Crysis, HL2 and plenty other games using physics.
Is that just the VFX impressing people so much?

People are impressed that you have such a variety of ways of dealing with the enemies and this one is particularly flashy and impressive.

Would very much appreciate if, as previews continue to go up, someone could collect and post some spoiler free impressions for those of us on media blackout :-)

I tried to read parts of the IGN preview. Seems like they're skeptical of the story (in that it seems predictable), and hinted that some side-quests could end up being a little rote. They also mentioned the slightly jarring animation quality as some posters in this thread have already called out.

Currently watching the Kinda Funny let's play and it's looking really good. There's so much more to it than i thought! The face animations are kind of weird but i can look past that since the game is so damn beautiful.
