Horizon Zero Dawn - Preview Thread [Up: All Previews Live]

Everything in this game is looking fantastic....except for the human combat. Hope the human combatants get harder in later levels and that they aren't so brain-dead throughout.

Luckily the robot fights pretty much all look great, and will probably make up a bulk of the combat encounters.

Horns and liquid color are different from regular deer robots. Higher level ones I guess.

Wait, there's human combat in this game. Which video has the footage?

Seems to differ by location e.g. these have drills atop their horns seemingly to dig into the ice and rock and gather ice resources. The other ones had twisting blade like apparatus seemingly to process the more organic resources (plants) they harvested into the green liquid (which is referred to as "blaze") if i'm not mistaken.

Clearly a lot of effort has been put into trying to make things "make sense" to a certain degree

Dios Mio. Looks incredible!

Absolutely.

Where is this gameplay from?

it's amazing to see how far games have come, I don't think anyone expected when Sony announced the PS4 specs that open world games could look like that.

Yeah I never thought we'd get open world games looking as good as they currently do.

God damn.

That's right!

Again not denying that Horizon looks great, however, it looking great doesn't erase the amazing looking open world games we've had this gen.

Horizon multiples the greatness :p

yeah that makes sense.

For a USK12 game, it certainly is 'brutal'.

It did get a 12? USK is doing a good job lately.

Off Topic: I just saw that Dead Rising 4 did get a rating in Germany? USK 18 without cuts. I think that is the first DR game releasing in Germany.
Quick everyone put in your games for ratings they are in a good mood!

I'm afraid to watch the videos to avoid spoliers, i hope it has thunderstorms. I love games with lightning and thunder and shit it looks so awesome.

In one of the previews they said that they had a functional system that allowed thunders to hit enemies and you while playing but they felt it was a little unfair so they botched it. I asume there will be regular thunders though.

Wow the human combat looks terrible.

If a large part of the game is human combat, the game's definitely gonna get trashed by critics.

Some of the previews mentioned the human AI, in the outposts that you can take over, wasn't the best but it didn't stop the previews from being positive, so it's probably just a minor issue that doesn't do enough to take away from overall experience.

Maybe if the game has a higher difficulty setting, that may improve but the dino AI seems more than fine and I think they will be the main enemy, throughout most of the game anyway.

Sony and the obsession with mass murderer, Nate, Kat now Aloy.
Internal studio try to one up each other I see.

Why Sony? Last time I looked, Gears of War and Halo on Xbox have plenty of killing and so do loads of 3rd party multi-platform games too (Lara Croft is a mass murderer in the TR reboot), it's really not a Sony exclusive thing.

Its a game based around combat. I'm not sure what you're expecting. There are several RPG's that don't focus on tons of killing or violence but they are often story heavy and focused affairs.

And its start raining,
nice drip effects

Regarding the video, The human combat and stealth in itself is great as you can see by the takedowns and mellee kills, the only issue i have seen is the dumb AI which might be cause they are playing at easy difficulty cause its a media preview and can be rectified with increase in difficulty.

Also most of the combat is focused on 25 unique machines, and by the previews there AI is Ace.

Yes human combat is the most import aspect of the game which is why theyve showed dino combat this whole time. A game about giant robot dinosaurs is going to have human combat be a large component of the game.

I like the melee attacks, they seem grounded and not trying to be a martial artists. It makes for a more believable character in my opinion. She doesn't need "Ninja Gaiden" type of attacks, the primitive attacks for Close Quarters is just fine.
