I'm not talking about reinventing the wheel but separating yourself from the competition. Bloodborne plays like no other ARPG, including other Souls game, Journey is unlike any other indie game, Shadow of the Colossus is unlike any action adventure, Splatoon is unlike any other shooter, Smash Bros is unlike any other fighter, Pikmin is unlike any other RTS, Pokemon is unlike any other JRPG, Halo and Gears, at first, were unlike any other shooters on console, etc. Horizon distinguishes itself with its enemy encounters, though there's some MonHun DNA in there, and seemingly nothing else. The exploration has been compared to Far Cry to death, but it's not like these comparisons are false (I don't have a massive issue with UbiTowers, but they really feel forced in this setting and they kinda reduce the tall necks to a mechanic rather than them feeling like living creatures like the rest of the machines). Heck, the thing that bothers me more is how Aloy looks like the Red head from GoT. Sony has spoken of her as a mascot and symbol for PlayStation but her design feels like it was done by market research. Again, I haven't played the game, but these are the reasons why others and myself are cautiously optimistic rather than foaming at the mouth for this game.
