Horizon Zero Dawn Spoiler-free Impressions (for real this time)

You're not reviewing this time?

My retail source dried up. So now I am back on the hunt for a early copy. If you know anyone shoot them my way.

Damn found a sort of screw up with the lore that they need to patch. I am enthralled with this story and it ruined it for me. The journal is amazing and quite funny but...

in the hunters lodge there is a story of the redmaw, the most fearsome beast in all the land. And it describes all the attempts to kill it and how everyone died. Next to that book is volume 2 which I go to read and it tells of the story of how Aloy and her hawk master fought and killed the redmaw and I'm like wtf spoilers!!! Why is the book of my accomplishments there already, fix that GG.
.

Damn...that needs to get fixed asap that is sort of huge story wise

Mmmm a stupid mistake... or intentional? is there any way that can be intentional or you are 100% sure is a mistake?

Edit: Like someone said, part of the mistery.

Clearly just a story about the original Aloy. But seriously, yeah that's a little oversight they need to address. Maybe the day one patch fixes it.

Stop shitting on my team. Start shitting on my finger.
"Original"
Aloy? That sounds like mighty spoilery talk to me because I have no idea what that's supposed to be. Also a spoiler about an ingame-spoiler is... probably wrong here anyway. so please cut it out everyone :/

You can override during combat? I assumed it was a stealth move

yeah you can override during combat. The spear's override meter will need to recharge but you can run around and when it refills you can override more creatures. Cavaet being the timer on your spear. Overridden creatures have an "override" timer that expires

Skill tree
also extends the override time, first is double the time, with the final upgrade being unlimited override time on the creature

Yes, but there are more in the combat than just offense. In defense, there are so many choices as well. As mentioned above, you can be an agile or a tanky swordsman. You can also focus on signs so you don't even need to dodge as you can keep that shield up for longer and stronger. Choices.

While in Horizon, what can you do to protect yourself other than rolling around and around and around?

I don't know, what can you do to protect your small, vulnerable fleshy body in a game that doesn't have magical elements or force fields from this:

The nature of the enemies you're facing makes the idea of a 'heavy armour' build ridiculous IMO. Dodging, rolling and movement - hunting skills - are the only defence, outside of introducing things like portable EMP devices or, as the game allows, scavenging and using the megafauna class' weapons against them.

Plus it means you don't get the 'hit big toe to defeat giant monster' effect that I really can't past in Souls-type games.

Miami, do you know how to leave a cauldron?

I'm really frustrated. This cauldron is too difficult and I can't escape it. I'm stuck.

I haven't done a manual save in a long time. I just have auto saves.

No worries, I somehow awkwardly climbed out of this pit that seemed designed to not let you get back out but I did. Fuck that cauldron. I'll be back way later lol

Ok cool lol.

Good to know that some are difficult though. :p

I'm Back. Just wanted to ask those who have played the game how it handles tutorials since I remember GG saying they wanted players to learn through trial and error Souls style. Is that true?

Ok for the main part of the map. I'm gonna guess,
I'm not supposed to be fighting these huge dinos yet? Cause they are kicking my ass.

I'm fully aware of it, hence my previous post:
I kinda understand the reason though, we're fighting robot dinosaurs, after all. Aloy couln't be a master of melee or a tank to fight them. The theme sets its own limitations in the RPG aspects.

Jesus, my "original Aloy" comment was just a joke. I don't have the game and would never spoil something like that if I did.

Thank god.

Yeah, my bad about making some of you worry like that! I put the "but seriously" right after it and thought that was enough indication that I wasn't serious. Sorry.

What happens when you die? Just respawn in there? You could try killing yourself by the door maybe.

Yeah I just respawn inside a point of no return. I don't have the supplies to face this enemy and I can't exit the cauldron and I can't fast travel anywhere.

but I just found out that the game will let you reload multiple past auto saves, so that's what I'm gonna do.

GG if you're listening, please allow exiting cauldrons where you bit off more than you can chew lol

which reviews are most likely going up straight at midnight and which ones are most likely going to be the "best" (in terms of quality of review)? I havent followed which sites/magazines are the most reputable in a looong time

My mains are Eurogamer and ACG, other than that I just read stuff from random sites and those reviews that people say are well written and shouldn't be missed.
