How Concord can (theoretically) succeed...

Nope. Look at the games Steamcharts. Pretty gradual fluctuations and mostly consistent player base throughout its history. Streamers had almost 0 impact on the games success.
It wasn't on steam for almost two years. The first two years was pretty much summit1g carried the word of mouth of the game. The devs used his streams to patch exploits in the game.

Nah, I paid attention to Streamer influence during Fortnites heyday. It's not really a thing.

When Ninja would go off and play a different game for a day, his numbers would be around 70 percent of his Fortnite playing numbers. Then on day 2 they'd drop to 30 percent of his Fortnite numbers. Then he'd jump back on Fortnite because the game is what's important, not the personality. Summit streamed tons of games over the years and they all did differently than Sea of Thieves.

The game is woke, soulless and generic. But maybe the gameplay is fun. I won't pay for it. It has to be the second coming for me to try it.

Another thing to add here...

I've had this discussion a million times with people on NeoGAF that it's quite obvious that there's 5 or so genre's that do really well in the Live Service multiplayer space...

1. Battle Royale
2. Survival
3. MMORPG
4. Co-OP shooter
5. Sports

League of Legends, CSGO, Rainbow Six Siege, Rocket League are #5 (sports games).

PlayStation will have released a #4 (Helldivers 2) and a #5 (Concord) in one year. They're paying attention. They get it.

I feel like this might get a delay.

The backlash. Suicide squad got a lengthy delay after a similar response.

And it flopped anyway.

The things people are complaining about are the generic art and characters and that’s not going to change.

The only thing they can change is people’s perception of the game once they go hands on with it, and perhaps they will come to enjoy the characters after getting more playtime

There’s no need to revamp the gameplay

Did it get delayed due to the backlash or was that just fake gamer media narrative? Games get delayed all the time.

I doubt Concord gets delayed. Announcing a release date and a beta date so soon means it's ready to go.
I'm pretty sure they released a statement in response to it but I might be completely wrong.

I guess we'll find out in a few months.

The characters. The forced inclusion. I don't like it.

Just because you don't like a thing doesn't make it woke.
The mere existence of minorities existing in a game doesn't make it woke.

I don't like the game myself, but saying it has forced inclusion because said minorities are in is not very well veiled.

People have really diminished the meaning of the word woke after it had already been diminished before.

Men_in_Boxes Men_in_Boxes do you think we are going to see Concord again with some actual full gameplay sessions at Summer Games Fest?
I'd say yes. Here's what they had on the PlayStation Blog...

"The Concord galaxy is full of danger and adventure, and we’ll be unwrapping more in the coming weeks and months. At launch, Concord will have a roster of 16 distinct Freegunners to learn and master, and the Northstar crew will grow over time through regular, free post-launch updates that introduce new playable Freegunners, maps, modes, cinematic vignettes, and more.

We built Firewalk to deliver awesome multiplayer games, and we’re excited to get Concord in your hands. Beginning next week, we’ll share more details about Concord’s editions for PS5 and PC and launch pre-orders, which will give you and four friends early access to our beta later this summer."

I've appreciated your level headed take when it comes to this game. I never thought I'd see the day when you helped walk me away from the ledge when it comes to a GAAS lol

Yeah I am not necessarily a huge GaaS person but I grew up on Halo, played Killzone 2, loved Destiny in its early and mid days (kinda got too overwhelming for me now), and sorta took a long hiatus from GaaS until Helldivers 2 came out and showed me that these sorts of games can still appeal to me greatly.

I love Arena shooters, and I miss the old-school Halo days where you had longer time-to-kill with back and forth "dances" for engagements until somebody finally wins, and not necessarily because they saw you first. I'm not a big fan of the quick kill, low strategy, all reflexes/map memorization style of Call of Duty.

Glad you were able to come to your senses. I admit that Concord was not what I expected when they revealed it. At first, I was disappointed even like everyone else. But upon multiple watches of the gameplay segments it captures that Halo/Destiny vibe for me in a new lighthearted way which could be an absolute blast if they balance it well. The visuals look pretty stunning IMHO - very good animations, lighting, and it it just looks sharp, smooth, and fluid. The problem with Destiny PvP is it always took a backseat to PvE and it was wildly unbalanced so I never took it too seriously. This game looks tailor made for PvP fans and is dramatically better looking in terms of gameplay than all the other hero shooters on the market.

So I'm cautiously optimistic. And I think that their weekly vignettes will make people come around on the characters. I have faith that they will be doing some really neat cinematic things where your own personal progression rewards you with a semi-custom sort of cutscenes that gradually roll out over time and connect you to the world in a way many MP games don't do. And they are not too long to be intrusive for an MP game, but it's just something cool to look forward to occasionally before you start your matches.

Eagerly awaiting more news next week. Must suck for Firewalk that the reception is what it is right now, but if the game is as good as they claim then that will turn around when the beta hits.

This is honestly my game of the gen so far and it's everything you just mentioned. Super team oriented though so if you're not into that...

Moderated wildly
The devs don’t care if they know their game is fun. The initial reaction will blow over

So as long as the gameplay is fun enough to pass the gameplay test, we should accept any old generic focus tested DEI shit we get stuffed down our throats?

Nah, I'm gonna support games that clearly focus great gameplay and aren't as extreme as this game in its focus testing and lack of originality.

Is this just a 5 v 5 shooter aching to valorant or more a team objective escort the bomb type game as overwatch?

Why not just play those?

For a lot of gamers, the gameplay may be better than OW or Valorant. Not every game needs to revolutionize the wheel. If something comes around and improves upon a given formula that is good too.

Also, I'm probably in the minority, but I wasn't gaming much when games like Overwatch and Destiny came out. And because both those games are several years old, the skill ceiling on those games is so damn high, I never even attempted to play them. I hope this is good just so I can play a hero-shooter on release and on a level playing field

Well that your opinion. For me? No. You are wrong. Forced is forced. Is a marketing move to look progressive for social points mandated from corporate (Disney fashion) or because the studio embrace the ideology. End of the story. If twat devs put the strong female/ girl boss caricature and lame/idiot/bad men vibe in a game I don't play it. It's tainted with resentment and arrogance.

I never have a problem playing different characters until all this woke madness begun..

I hope the gameplay is good though. I just don't like it and I don't put my money in "progressive" products.

But I'm not surprised..In concept is a generic game that is clearly "borrowing" from destiny/overwatch/guardians of the galaxy and filling the quotas.
