How do you maintain your Gaming PC?

I upgrade every 2-3 years, always selling the old component in question. The total cost each time has not exceeded 2 years of Xbox live / PS+. This worked through 2007 to 2013 at which point I sold the machine entirely due to my own health issues and in ability to work at the time. Will be hopping back on soon and likely try out the same cycle although this time sticking to mitx and x80 rather than x60 geforce gtx cards

I've presently got an A10-6800K Black Edition (with the onboard HD 8670D) with 8gb RAM and a regular ol' 1TB HD. My rig is definitely showing its age (though it's capable enough), and I'm going to have to replace the motherboard when I replace the processor. Very clearly I'm a the end of a few years of upgrades, with the FM2 socket motherboard underpinning everything showing its age very clearly.

I'm toying with the thought of getting one last upgrade, getting a better GPU and then riding the A10 for another year or two.

I might just retire the entire build and start from scratch going forward, formatting it and handing it off to a relative for their own use. I'm not sure if I want to stick with AMD or jump to Intel for my processor. I'm sure I'll decide based on my needs when I do make the jump.

Honestly, I prefer to maintain a decent rig rather than go bleeding edge. I think my upgrade path will be as follows:

I might spend $600 on a basic PC and then do a couple upgrades when starting out, getting a decent mobo and processor with an onboard GPU and seeing how far I can stretch everything. Towards the end of the lifespan of the processor I'll get a dedicated GPU before upgrading.

Upgrade to the best CPU/onboard GPU combo for the socket when it comes out (as it'll probably outclass my dedicated GPU by that point), and then upgrade to another dedicated GPU when the CPU/onboard GPU is showing that age.

I spend to much on games consoles and everything to want to really get into dedicated, hobbyist PC gaming. I'd rather have access to every console than extra pretty PC games.

I build a new computer every time they elect a new president. Built my first in late 2007, then another in 2011. I'll probably build a new one sometime next year.

I don't think my rig has been the same for longer than a year. Each summer it seems like I do something. A few months ago I went from a 2600k/2x 780Tis to a 4930k/3x Titan Blacks. Before the Tis I had 2x Titans.

Most of the time it will just come out of no where and I want to make a move with my rig...usually in the summer months for whatever reason .
