How long before you can rate a game and why don't you stop?

I have a friend she plays tons of games, but barely completes any. Even the one's (she says) she "loves".
I like to see what my money paid for so I try to complete most games. I just don't play the games I wouldn't have fun with, and it seems like I'm pretty good in avoiding these.

I can't rate a game, even after completion, because rating systems are usually stupid and arbitrary.

As for an opinion on a game, I usually don't have a concrete one at least untill halfway, or untill I feel the game is too bad to complete.

I usually give a game a second chance.

As an amature, rate away. Rate the trailer if you want, your opinion isn't going to bother me.

Professionals should finish the game.

Professional critics, especially if their scores go into Metacritic and can affect the jobs of the people who made the game, must complete any game with an endpoint. If you hate Spelunky because it's too hard and you can't even beat Olmec, then give it to another reviewer who likes/has more experience with platformers. People who don't like challenging platformers already know they don't want to play it.

Gaming fans can play as much as they want, it's just that their opinion will be based on less esperience. Some games give bad first impressions but I force my way through them and still dislike them by the end (Resident Evil 6) and some games give bad first impressions but reveal hidden depth that makes me do a 180 (Wonderful 101).
